The b-vox babe on White Noise was Karen Taylor, not Linda. Am I the only person in the world who would have preferred the original (shorter, easier to stomach, less self-indulgent) vinyl LP mixes of the tracks on Berserker to be available SOMEWHERE on CD? I mean, I love "My Dying Machine," but I'm so used to the 5-minute version that the long mix is death by boredom! Does anyone know where the "other side" CD can be had? I want a copy, because Berserker and Strange Charm are my fave Numans so far. -- metlay | and she's a master of return hitting atomic city | giving rhythm to her posts | so you read her and think hey it sounds good metlay@netcom.com | and wish her posts had a soundtrack too (f. ercolessi) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Oct 92 10:21:37 PST From: dlangs%sunstroke@sdsu.edu (Derek Langsford) Subject: Backing vocalists (more) To: numanews@cs.uwp.edu >From TEELK@elmer1.bobst.nyu.edu Thu Oct 29 10:00:40 1992 Subject: Re: Female backing vocalists FYI: Tracy Ackerman, a former Numan backing vocalist, has recently done backing vocals for Neil Arthur (ex-Blancmange) on his single "One Day, One Time." The single is good anyway. I recommend it. --K Teel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Oct 92 10:19:28 PST From: dlangs%sunstroke@sdsu.edu (Derek Langsford) Subject: Derek acknowledges brain rot To: numanews@cs.uwp.edu >Fast snippets: >Derek, your memory fails you again, alas. It was Tracey Ackerman and Tessa Niles. >Am I the only person in the world who would have preferred the original >(shorter, easier to stomach, less self-indulgent) vinyl LP mixes of the >tracks on Berserker to be available SOMEWHERE on CD? I agree the 9+ min version on the CD is too long. Then again I am not too fond of the shorter vinyl version either. I think the song is sub-par. I think it doubtful the regular album mixes will get releases on CD unless another company buys the rights to the album if NUMA goes under and/or they need the cash. It may appear on another compilation down the road as well. IMO the longer mixes of This is New Love, The Secret and Cold Warning are wonderful, the longer Berserker is OK but the extended MDM and The Hunter are wastes of time. I could live with the shoter versions of the last three no problem. >Does anyone know where the "other side" CD can be had? He wondered if it was a US release. My dealer has to get it from his import supplier but to get confirmation I asked Brian Hammond, who got the CD last week, about the details of manufacture. I thought some of you would like the info too. >From bhammond@zephyr.cair.du.edu Thu Oct 29 12:31:37 1992 Subject: CD As for the CD. This is strange. The case says the CD was made in England from Receiver Records Twyman House. 31-39 Camden Road. London NW1 9LF and there is a fax number 071 267 6746. Then on the actual CD, it says it was made in France by MPO. It strikes me as odd and silly that they would bother to mention that the case was made in the UK and the CD in France. My personal guess is that it was made in France then shipped to the UK and some were then sent to the US as imports. The fax number might be a method for resolving this or evem placing orders if other like Mr Crawford can't find it. Me! I Disconnect From You Derek here: It often happens with imports that the case says "Made in country X" while the CD is made in country Y. Companies without their own CD plants farm out masters to independent plants for CD manufacture. Some plants will do all the artwork as well from what I presume are photo-ready proofs. Clearly the company's intention was to press it as a UK plant (Nimbus, PDO UK, Disctech etc) but they eventually sent the master to MPO in France after the artwork was completed. I have great faith in MPO. After the glitch of using corrosive ink way back in the mid-80s on a few CDs I have had no problems and IMO they produce CDs with excellent sonic quality especially in the bass. Better than Nimbus UK in fact - my favourite CD manufacturers overall. Derek ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Derek H.
