Gary Numan Digest Sun, 8 Nov 92 Volume 1 : Issue 8 Today's Topics: "Other Side" - sound quality Another Numan Appearance on CD Ghost update Karen Taylor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 6 Nov 92 14:03:17 PST From: dlangs%sunstroke@sdsu.edu (Derek Langsford) Subject: "Other Side" - sound quality To: numanews@cs.uwp.edu Paul Mayer, a friend of Brian Hammond, called me to say he thought the sound quality on the "other Side of Gary Numan" CD seemed better than the original Fury and Strange Charm CD releases. He said the spacial separation seemed better and it seems clearer. I am still waiting to get a copy (my dealer didn't make an import order this week), so I cannot verify this. Anyone care to compare and concur or differ? Also, I just had a thought. If the version of "The Hunter" on this CD is the regular version it is its first appearance on CD. The Berserker CD has the extended cassette version. So, technically, there are three new-to-CD tracks on this compilation. Those amongst you who are into owning absolutely *every* Numan appearance, even if it means having several hundred versions of the same track, might be interested in the new Virgin compilation _New Romantic Classics_. The release of this CD is a puzzle, since it's only about six months since that label released the _Club For Heroes_ compilation of...new romantic classics. There seems to be almost 100% artist commonality between the two compilations, with considerable track commonality too. The Numan track is "Cars" and it's joined by tracks by Heaven 17 ("Temptation"), Classix Nouveaux ("Is It A Dream?"), Visage ("Fade To Grey"), The Human League (can't remember which one), Phil Oakey and Giorgio Moroder ("Together In Electric Dreams" - an odd choice, since the new romantic movement had been dead for the best part of three years by the time this one appeared), Talk Talk ("Today"), Duran Duran ("Rio"), Kraftwerk ("The Model") and more. About 16 tracks in total. Just why is it that they always pick "Cars" though? I can understand them wanting to choose a hit, but "Are `Friends' Electric?" was every bit as big a hit in the UK. -- Al Crawford - awrc@dcs.ed.ac.uk Department Of Computer Science, The University of Edinburgh Rm 1410, JCMB, Kings Buildings, Mayfield Rd, EDINBURGH, EH9 3JZ, Scotland Tel: +44 (0) 31 650 5165 Fax: +44 (0) 31 667 7209 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Nov 92 12:50:53 PST From: dlangs%sunstroke@sdsu.edu (Derek Langsford) Subject: Ghost update To: numanews@cs.uwp.edu I spoke with Peter last weekend and he was expecting the CDs this past week (Tue or Wed). Beryl was preparing the order and was sending them by carrier on Monday. So, with luck, Pete will be getting them in the mail to you this weekend. Peter gave Beryl his work number in the city so in future we should not have this type of delay. The CDs will also be going there so that there will be someone who will sign for them. Beryl is sending the CDs without receiving the cheque from Peter first which illustrates a certain level of trust between the parties and bodes well for future transactions. It looks as though the costs are going to be very close, if not slighlty more, than the money people sent me. I originally expected 'Ghost' to be a full length single CD. I hope that the disparity will not be great. It shouldn't be. Derek ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Derek H.
