Gary Numan Digest Sun, 29 Nov 92 Volume 1 : Issue 11 Today's Topics: For What It's Worth NAGNFC Update : November 1992 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 25 Nov 92 10:43:14 PST From: dlangs%sunstroke@sdsu.edu (Derek Langsford) Subject: For What It's Worth To: numanews@cs.uwp.edu Date: Tue, 24 Nov 1992 15:53:08 -0700 From: "BRIAN D. HAMMOND" Subject: For What Its Worth For what its worth, I prefer The Skin Mechanic to Ghost by a slight margin. Overall, I think that Ghost is one of the most uninspiring live albums Numan ever did. He plays to many of the songs too close to their studio versions and the concert completely lacks a build up of emotion. The only version that really rocks on it is My Shadow In Vain. Having said all this, I'm very happy to have the Ghost concert on CD. I don't know of any concert videos for the I, Assassin tour (although one may have been made but never released) but I do know that in 1982, the BBC came to the states to film a video for White Boys And Heroes which features Numan walking around in an arid location with his ex-army jeep and one of his guns slung on his back. As fas as I know, this video is the property of the BBC and has only appeared a few times on shows like Top Of The Pops in the UK. I don't believe it was ever released to the public on any compilation. Me! HAMMOND" Subject: NAGNFC Update : November 1992 The November issue of the North American Gary Numan Fan Club Fanzine just arrived. With this issue club is now officially three years old and in tribute the fanzine sports a very snazzy looking new cover that is much improved over the old one. The club has also now gone over 100 members worldwide. For those who might have missed the address the first time, membership information can be obtained from: Gary Numan North American Fan Club c/o The Machman 407 1/2 Willow Avenue Ithaca, New York 14850-3553 USA Also in the fanzine this month: -Apparantly The Other Side Of Gary Numan was also released on vinyl and has the same track listing as the CD minus I Still Remember, Strange Charm, The Hunter, and Empty Bed - Empty Heart. -There is a US compilation CD out called Rock Of The 80s which features Numan's song Cars. The CD also has tracks by Thomas Dolby, Soft Cell, Naked Eyes, ABC, Berlin, Thompson Twins, The Buggles, and Romeo Void. Not a bad selection overall. The best news is that this CD is available pretty much at any music store. It is on Priority Records (P2 53705) and the copy mentioned in the fanzine was had for a mere $9.99 -European MTV is currently running clips from the Cars video in it's promo on the show "Classic MTV" -According to news from the UK fanzine World Storm, the song Are 'Friends' Electric? has been re-recorded and will be released soon although possibly under a different name and sung by someone else. -Yen have reportedly recorded a cover of Down In The Park but has not yet been released. Expect it on the EMI label. -World Storm also reports that Numan helped write the latest Gary Robson single which should be out shortly. -As for chart positions: Machine And Soul the album made it to #42 for one week and then left the charts. The single reached #72 in the pop charts also for just one week. Not very good. Me! I Disconnect From You ------------------------------ End of Gary Numan Digest ******************************
