Anyone out there? After last week's lack of material and another lull becoming evident this week I thought I'd at least do something though Brian saved us from another bleak week at the last minute. Are we waiting for new material to create discussion? At least I have the excuse of dealing with the White Noise orders :) Many of us often bemoan the direction that Gary has taken in his music. Some think the beginning of the end was with I, Assassin, others put it as late as Metal Rhythm. Me, I'm in between. Berserker was his last compelling album IMO. That is not to say that later albums do not contain anything worthwhile. For me they just were not fully satisfying, and even Berserker has its low points (My Dying Machine, The Hunter). The best tracks from The Fury and Strange Charm could make a decent single album but separately the albums have some very annoying tracks. So I got to thinking how would I rank Gary's studio albums. Here is my first stab. 1. Berserker 2. Dance 3. The Pleasure Principle 4. Replicas 5. Warriors 6. I, Assassin 7. Metal Rhythm 8. Telekon 9. The Fury 10. Machine and Soul 11. Strange Charm 12. Tubeway Army 13. Outland 14. The Plan I am not sure that this is how things might remain. What makes it difficult is the fact that most albums have some excellent tracks. And one has to assess how many good tracks counterbalance an excellent track. Would anyone like to do a poll like Erland did for various artists on rec.music.misc? I am curious to see how others rate different albums. We could even pick favourite tracks from each album. Your comments are solicited. While the main characters spoke, in the background played Numan's song "New Anger" in pretty much its entirety. This was a pleasant surprise all the more so since the movie was done in 1993. Me!
