My son, Jory, came home from hospital on Tuesday 20th July after 10 weeks only to go back in 7/23 due to a fever (his immune system is very vulnerable while on chemotherapy). He has since had another surgery and to the surgeon's surprise found old blood in the sub-dural cerebro-spinal fluid that they wanted to drain - we hope this is what has been causing some of his problems with swallowing, keeping food down and his blood pressure. As a result of all this I have been spending most of my time at the hospital and thus way from a computer. For the moment, Berserker CDs are no longer available :( But as I explained to those with outstanding orders, NUMA expect to do another pressing run towards the end of the year. I'll let you know when they become available again. The ballad album must have been delayed as nothing has been seen or heard through this week. So much for the June release! The Machine and Soul extended mixes CD has not been generally released to date. This being the case I am willing to take preliminary orders for this CD. I expect the price to be in the US$23 vicinity again which of course includes p&p to you. Email me if you expect to want a copy. I will confirm the existence of said CD with Beryl Webb at NUMA and assess costs before requesting funds. I ask you to be even more patient with the process this time as I cannot check my mail very frequently nor post to the group as easily. White Noise and Ghost are general releases adn shuld be available at your local import store by special order if they don't stock them. I am only ordering non-general releases. While unpacking from my move I found the tape Bill Powers sent me of extended mixes and b-sides from "The Fury" singles. It reminded me of why I got into Gary's music back in 1979 - he was unique. It also reminds me that NUMA should release a b-sides compilation of the Berserker, Fury and Strange Charm singles. I'll put it to Beryl again when I call. OK that't it for now. I'll get that summary together when I get a chance. Derek Derek H. Langsford dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu Dept. of Biology, Tel. work +1 619 594 2885 San Diego State Univ. This may not be right, but this is the story that I heard about 12 years ago . . . At the time of writing Replicas, Gary had just broken up with his girlfriend - someone by the name of Su. (Note, no 'e'.) As I understand it, S.U.s is simply a reference to her. It doesn't stand for anything - he just made it into an abbreviation to make it a little less obvious. Much the same as he did in M.E. I suppose. I don't think Su fell into the pit of anonymity either - take a look at the credits for Pleasure Principle: Calligraphy - Su (Waltham? Can't remember for sure, and I haven't got the album to hand). It _could_ be the same person - then again, it could be coincidence. As an aside, U.D.s did stand for something - Undesirables. I > want to ask.. what does S.U.'s MEAN? If my memory serves me correctly, the origin of "S.U.s" was a person named Su. (Sorry, forget the last name.) She worked for Beggars Banquet, and according to the Ray Coleman biography there was some sort of nasty fallout between Gary and her. I don't believe I have ever read anything else that explained the abbreviation "S.U." but perhaps the more enlightened posters can clue us in... > next.. is there any old recordings of gary and tubeway army?? I > have White Noise and The Skin Mechanic.. but I'd like to hear some > of the older players and GARY actually playing something instead > of just singing.. I assume that he mostly played guitar for live > performances of tubeway army.. is that right? You mean live recordings, I guess? Besides the many, many bootlegs (and don't ask me about them because I'm not an expert!!) there is the "Living Ornaments" 2-album set that features live recordings made in 1979 and 1980. Released on Beggars Banquet, and available in the UK as a box set and in Canada in a gatefold sleeve. I've seen used copies in different places over the years at cheap prices. Gary plays guitar in at least some of the songs. > How about a head count? I hope this posting will suffice to announce that I am still on the net and still listening to Numan. --Kay Teel, New York University teelk@elmer1.bobst.nyu.edu ------------------------------ End of Gary Numan Digest ******************************
