To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Well, I don't know really, cause I woke up before buying anything, but here's what I remember from my dream... I was at a local record shop, just browsing, not looking for anything in particular, when all of a sudden I found, in the New Arrival vinyl bin, three new 12" releases from Gary. One of them was a cover of Robert Fripp's 'I may not have had enough of me but I've had enough of you'. All three had interesting cover art with good pictures of Gary. Looking further in the bin, I found a brand new full-length vinyl album from Gary, with a really wild cover. I wanted to know if this new album was also available on CD, so I went to the counter to ask. The guy handed me the CD release, and he showed me two more new CD releases in beige coloured covers. The first was a box set containing four double CDs and the second was a double CD by itself, but they were both part of the same release. At first, I though these were the announced Beggars Banquet re-release, with track listings similar to the Asylum series. The guy told me I could have all 10 CDs for $450.00. Well, I obviously wasn't too impressed with the hefty price (my wife would have surely killed me), but I looked at them anyways, thinking that I might want to pick up the double CD release, which I expected would be the Living Ornaments album. To my surprise, these weren't Beggars re-release at all. They contained songs I had never heard of, but the titles sounded really cool. Reading the liner notes, it became obvious that these were all non-studio recordings, mostly bootleg concerts, but also some soundcheck fouling around. I don't know if they were actual bootleg CDs or if they were official releases of bootleg recordings. And like I said, I woke up before purchasing any of them, or even listening to them in the store. Well, I'm glad it was only a dream, cause I don't have that kind of money to spend right now. Wouldn't it be weird if Gary actually covered a Fripp song? I have not seen any sign of it in San Diego and neither has my local importer. I know at least one person on the list has it. Can anyone give a track listing with times and a comparison with the regular version of the album? Come to think of it, no sign of the new BB Best of compilation or rereleases either. I have no news from Beryl as she is on tour with Gary in the UK. Jory update/news ---------------- It has been a long 6 months. We have had Jory home for almost two after we found out that there was nothing more that could be done for him. The cancer had continued to grow and spread, even into his bone indicating that it had escaped his central nervous system. We now realise that Jory had no chance. He was dealt an impossible hand. The cell type of his form of cancer is always lethal it seems; too much like his own cells to eradicate without killing him in the process. He's continously unconscious now but it could be many weeks before he finally slips away. We miss him now and always will. One thing that has been keeping us going since July is the fact that we are expecting another child in March. We kept it secret in case we lost it but that didn't happen and the amniocentesis showed everything was fine with our new little *boy* we expect in the last week of March. He is our lifeline to the future. We expect he will give meaning to our lives when the tragedy of Jory is behind us. Derek Derek H. My name's Doug and I'm new to the list. Already gleaned much info on Gary and looking forward to learning much more here. First a question or two about "Machine and Soul" - are "Machine and Soul" and "Machine and Soul remixes" two different things? I seem to remember seeing a disk by this name a couple months ago in a local store but haven't seen anything since then and it's not in the copy of the discography I have. If they are different is the "remixes" disk another full length release or just selected songs? On a related note, can anyone recommend mail order sources for Gary Numan product in the U.S? Is this stuff available from the recently- opened-to-non-UK-residents fan club? How do I join? And now a bit about myself. I've been a Gary Numan fan since the mid 80's and now have most of his regular album releases on CD. I'm one of the (presumably) few americans in posession of "The Fury" and "Strange Charm" on CD. I don't prefer any one era of his music, instead sometimes craving the guitar-laden Tubeway Army sound and others wanting to hear the lush ballads and intricate rhythms of his more recent material. And everything in between. :) Other favorite artists include everything from Devo to Concrete Blonde to Alice in Chains but as a keyboard player I've always been most influenced by Numan's early 80's discs. If anybody knows of set dates for his upcoming tour please let me know. I may get a chance to visit England sometime between now and May and seeing Gary live would be an unbelievable dream come true. HAMMOND) Subject: NAGNFC for September 1993 To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Got the latest newsletter the other day. Again, apologies to anything that may already have appeared here: --The issue was delayed due to the 4th annual Numan convnetion which sounded like it was a fun time again. --Mike Allen's version of Are 'Friends' Electric? is getting some serious radio play on East Coast Clubs [I didn't kow about this version, can anyone tell me anything about it? Is it easy to find in music stores? Is it any good?] --At the London Numan Convention, Gary said he didn't like the U.S. version of My World Storm (12" IRS). He claimed to be totally over his Janet Jackson phase [miracles do happen] and that "vicious" will not be like like Oultand. There will be less guitar. His next image will be more dapper as well (much like The Fury).[sounds like he's making some good moves finally]. --Tessa Niles and Linda Taylor appear on the latest Debbie Harry album. --Work has begun on The Unborn Part 2 although no word on if Numan will do the score again. --Fanzine also had a translation of the Japanese from the Asylum booklets --The usual trivia contest and rare Numan on cassette features. Could some tell me, either here or in email, of where I can write for price-lists, catalogues, etc.? Thanks muchly.
