I saw it on Ottawa this weekend. Don't know when it came in. I didn't pick it up... my Numan completist phase is over. I must say that the CD has THE UGLIEST COVER ART I HAVE EVER SEEN, even by Numan album standards. No pictures, just three coloured lines on the cover, plus the artist name and the album title. How cheap can you get... hey Beggars Banquet??? They also had the UK release of the Exhibition double CD, going for CDN$49. I didn't even pay half that for my copy. Wow! News from UK... it seems that there is still hope that the Unborn soundtrack will come out on CD. According to a friend overseas, there have been rumours of it this fall. Also, the Radial Pair video, featuring Gary flying, has been released, and I have been told that the video soundtrack, composed and recorded by Gary himself, will be available on CD. To: numan@cs.uwp.edu ...but I've been listening to Gary since, oh, 1980-ish, starting with _Praying To The Aliens_ on Saturday Night Live. I was hooked, instantly. I suppose it helps that I already was a fan of Devo & Talking Heads... well, maybe. My favorite artists include the previously mentioned and King Missile, Negativland, They Might Be Giants, Melissa Etheridge, Butthole Surfers, Beethoven, Mozart, Hawkwind, Pink Floyd, The Residents, Michelle Shocked, Ultravox, XTC, etc... I have played instruments, but if I were to choose one to play now it would have to be a sequencer. Tt(o hell with learning a bunch of different instruments just to get teh sounds I want, especially when it's about impossible to make most f the sounds with contemporary orchestral instruments... enough babbling, eh? cb -- Cyberspace Buddha % cb@wixer.bga.com / /(o\ war & / "all we are saying is give peace a chance" --lennon \o)/ peace % "all we are saying is give hemp a chance" --saffire ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Nov 93 10:33:48 PST From: dlangs%sunstroke@sdsu.edu (Derek Langsford) Subject: Replies to last week's questions To: numan@cs.uwp.edu >Date: Mon, 18 Oct 1993 15:12:21 -0500 (CDT) >From: HADCFDWF@admin.uh.edu >Subject: Machine and Soul, etc. >Greetings! >My name's Doug and I'm new to the list. If they are different is the "remixes" disk >another full length release or just selected songs? Machine and Soul (NUMACD 1009) was Gary's album release of 1992 with 9 tracks. The Machine and Soul extended mixes CD (NUMACDX 1009) is a recent release containing all the M+S album tracks in extended versions except for "U Got the Look". It also contains 4 of the M+S b-sides for a total of 13 tracks. But beware. The initial pressing of this CD was wrong and omitted the b-sides despite them being listed on the packaging and disc. These were withdrawn but not before copies got to the USA etc. Recently imported copies should be the full disc. I would advise checking the CD in a CD player before buying to be sure you have the full disc. >On a related note, can anyone recommend mail order sources for Gary >Numan product in the U.S? Is this stuff available from the recently- >opened-to-non-UK-residents fan club? How do I join? I don't know any mail order company that specialises in Gary's output. However, the UK Fan Club does have a lot of NUMA vinyl and CD singles + White Noise, Ghost and the M+S CDs available. Berserker CDs may be available in the future again as soon as another pressing run is warranted by orders. My request for info on demand yielded one response so I cannot say to Beryl I can guarantee lots of demand from members of this group. I should find out details but you could first write to ask for info on how to join and fees. I expect everything will have to be done in UK pounds. The UK Fan club, newly reopened to those outside the USA is probably the best bet for Numan CDs both new and old on the NUMA label. Any decent store that deals in imports should be able to get UK general releases. For a city the size of Edmonton with a University I am surprised there isn't a decent music store. Smaller stores are often better than the chains in this regard. > Thanks muchly. My pleasure Derek Derek H. We'd like to thank all of you for your kind words and support during the past six months while we have struggled with this tragedy. The following is taken from the announcement we are sending to family and friends. Michael Jory Langsford 23rd January 1992 - 13th November 1993 'We'll love you forever, forever and always our baby you'll be...' Twenty-one months ago we welcomed Jory into our lives with joy and love. He had a wonderful start to life. Born at 9lbs 1oz, he grew so rapidly that he astonished everyone, including his pediatrician. He ate well, slept predictably, was easy to please and was such a happy child we felt incredibly lucky. We took him to Britain at age 4 months for his christening and to meet his English family. And despite being over 30lbs took his first long walk during the '92 Christmas holiday. On Jory's first birthday we celebrated with carrot cake and looked forward to a special second year with him. He soon began to talk, starting with 'da-dy', 'ma-ma' and 'kit-ty' and progressing to 'go out!'. He loved to be outside, to explore the neighbourhood, and to laugh. Sadly, our life with him was shattered on May 13th when his brain tumour was diagnosed. Although the original tumour was removed, it was found to be cancerous and had already spread. It continued to spread and proved too aggressive for chemotherapy to be effective. The doctors and nurses did all they could, but after 4 months in hospital and numerous complications nothing more could be done, and we brought him home. Our beloved little boy passed away peacefully in his sleep early one morning eight weeks later. We will always miss Jory, and will hold a special place for him in our hearts. He has enriched our lives with his happiness and love in ways far too many for us to count. In lieu of flowers, dontaions should be sent in Jory's name to either: The Children's Hospital Hematalogy Fund, 3020 Children's Way, MC 5035, San Diego, CA 92123 USA or The Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children c/o Rev.
