My Dying Machine: Polarvox/Numa NU 6. Cover has paper of slightly lower quality than UK pressing, and isn't glossy. The disc has a large centre hole and Polarvox labels. (I scanned the A-side and will upload it to cs.uwp.edu as soon as Iget around to it.) Label also says: "(P) Polarvox Oy, 1985". (C) is Numan Music Ltd. as always. Berserker: Polarvox/Numa NUMA 1001. Polarvox labels. The Fury: Polarvox/Numa NUMA 1003. Polarvox labels. All Polarvox pressings have the address of Polarvox Oy on the back. I'll try to get in touch with them if they still exist and ask about other releases... Polarvox also released Men Without Hats as I said and (so I've heard) DAF in Finland. The Album... It's still factory sealed, so obviously both cover, inner sleeve, and vinyl are in absolute mint condition. HOWEVER, it has that damn HOC (hole in cover) to indicate it was deleted from catalogue. For those not familiar with it, it is a hole (smaller than the diameter of a lead pencil) found in the corner of the cover... it does not affect the vinyl. The Trade... I have 99.9% of the domestic and import Numan releases, as well as most videos, but I'm still looking for certain items. Tell me what you have and I'll tell you if I'm interested. BTW, I also collect Kraftwerk. Richard Paiement ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Sep 1994 14:53:31 -0600 From: "BRIAN D. HAMMOND" Subject: I'm Wrong... To: numan@cs.uwp.edu When I reviewed the _Dream Corrosion_ CD last week, I had only listened to it 1.5 times. I was wrong when I mentioned that "My World Storm" is actually "New Anger." For the record, "My World Storm" is indeed "My World Storm." Must be old age or something. Sorry. As punishment for my error, I'll force myself to listen to "Like A Refugee (I Won't Cry)" and pretend to like it. Me! I Disconnect From You ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Sep 1994 17:26:53 -0700 (PDT) From: Robert Trousdale Subject: Introduction To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hi, my name is Robert Trousdale, I am a senior at the University of Washington who just heard about your list from the newswatcher program on one of our computers here at the UW. I have been teased, shunned and given dirty looks for fourteen years (since I declared I like G. Numan's music) It will be nice to talk to some friendly folks for a change :)!!! I have most of the Discography of G. Numan, except for some of the odd-ball singles and such. I am a big fan of all his recordings up to the "New Anger" period. I do like "Machine and Soul" but have no use for "Outland". Other bands that I like include: A-ha, Blancmange, B-52s, Cabaret Voltaire, China Crisis, Dead or Alive, Erasure, Front 242, Peter Gabriel, Human League (I guess we could call ourselves the "Numan League" :-), Heaven 17, Icehouse, Kraftwerk, Manufacture, Numan (Oh, you probably guessed that already!) Nine Inch Nails, OMD, Police, Q-feel, Recoil, Skinny Puppy, Split Seccond, Severed Heads, Thomson Twins, Tears for Fears, Ultravox, Vangelis (Okay, so he's not a group, neither is Jean-Michel Jarre and I love his stuff too), Wang Chung, XTC, Yello, and ZZ-top (sorry :-) My outside interests include, Ice Hockey, Sim City 2000, Doom, and Mathematics (I am completing a B.S. in Math at the UW). My Wife to be is named Cara, her address is badger31@hardy.u.washington.edu and she is not as much of a Numan fan as I am, but she does appreciate *good* music, (see above). She reminds me to mention Star Trek, Sci-fi in general as another mutual interest. Hope to talk to you soon! If any of you fellow subscribers are in the Seattle area- drop me a line and maybe we can get together for coffee and good music *see above*. Cheers! HAMMOND" Subject: Latest News Version 2 To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Just spoke with Paul Bosnako again today. He has received some information from Beryl Webb and expects to be taking orders soon. He still needs to find a new apartment and until then doesn't have the time to take any orders. Beryl sent him lists of merchandise that is available along with memberships in the Uk Fan Club. Now out, apparantly, is the Radial Pair CD, The Dream Corrosion Tour Video (over 2 hours long with backstage scenes included), tour T-shirts, and Images 11 on CD. He also got a partial listing of _Sacrifice_ which is: Scar Whisper Of Truth Play Like God Love And Napalm Badland Deadliner The single, "A Question Of Faith" should be released on Oct. 3rd and the album should be out on 17 Oct. Beggar's Banquet plans to release a version of Living Ornamanets on CD soon. The hold up was due to their inability to find the master tapes to the 1980 concert. From what I understand, they will instead be releasing a double CD containing the '79 concert and the '81 Wembly fairwell concert. The great news is that these will be restored to their entirety with all the songs that they had taken out to fit them on vinyl resored to their proper place. The tour will begin on 2 November but I have no times or locations yet. Paul described Numan's images as alomost "grunge" with long hair a scruffy look. Sadly the leather jacket remains. Me! I've not seen anything to say it has except for a listing in CDEurope's unreliable online catalogue. I tend to believe it has not been released but would be happy to be proven wrong. It is a wonderous departure from Numan's other live albums. For those of you who live in small cities and are having trouble finding the CD, here is the information from the CD: Artist: Gary Numan Title: Dream Corrosion Release Copyright: 1994 Label: Numa Records Catalog Number: NUMACD 1010 Distributor: Pinnacle Records Spine Color & Design: Black Background, White Letters, All Caps "NUMACD 1010 DREAM CORROSION GARY NUMAN" Originating Country: England I hope this helps folks trying to find it. Others have posted the track list so I will spare you the bandwidth. For those who have the CD (and maybe those who don't), I don't remember the tracks "Shame" or "I Don't Beleive." Now, some others have mentioned "Shame" as never appearing on CD, however, I have trouble believing that it is brand new. In fact, it sounds like a Fury-style B-Side to me. Can any one track down the first releases of either of these songs? FWIW, I think "I Don't Believe" is a pretty good song. I do, however, think that TJ needed to take a break on the vocals. The Dream Corrosion version of DITP is pretty interesting - especially with the various samples from Blade Runner in the Intro. Can anyone identifiy the origin of the other samples in the intro? Obviously, the first is from Blade Runner, but where is the maniacal laughter from? I also am unable to make out the second sample of words, however, I assume it is also from Blade Runner as it sounds like Rutger Hower. -- -- I've seen the movie Speed three times and failed to identify the Cars Sprint Mix (of course, I wasn't listening for it ...). Can anyone confirm that it's in the credits or on the soundtrack? -- -- Brian Hammond: You mention that Vicious and Scar are "apparently" out. Is there any confirmation of this? What label, distributor, and catalog number? My understanding was that Vicious is the old working title of the album that was later renamed Scar and that Scar is currently unreleased. Has this changed? Also, from the tone of what Beryl said, it sounds like Sacrifice is already on its way to release (i.e. not in the planning stages). This must mean that Gary was working on both Scar and Sacrifice at the same time - is this reasonable? What kind of realease date for Sacrifice might be envisioned? Weeks, Months or Years? -- -- Does anyone else find it remarkable that Shame follows Respect in the tour lineup? You gotta think this was on purpose. Terry ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Sep 1994 08:41:45 -0700 From: dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu (Derek Langsford) Subject: Used Numan CDs found To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hi there! I have spotted two used CDs of Gary's that someone on the list may be interested in. 1. Metal Rhythm - the UK release of New Anger i.e. the way Gary intended it to be before Miles Copeland interfered. Omits the Berserker tracks and has the original mix of Devious plus two tracks that were not on New Anger (Hunger and Young Heart (?) ). 2. Interview CD - Probably a bootleg, cat no NUMANCD 7, cover is black with "INTERVIEW GARY NUMAN" written on it in silver. The other side of the piece of card that is the insert a b&w shot of Gary singing, looks like the Fury tour. This shot is reproduced on the disc. It is over 56 mins but the sound quality is rather poor. If anyone is interested in either of these let me know and I'll see if I the discs are still there. All I ask is that my costs are covered i.e. $8.99 + sales tax + p & p which will be very close to $11. Both would probably be around $21. As always, this is first email, first served. A note to all the newer subscibers to the list and a reminder to those who have received it for a while now, if you see a hard to find Gary CD anywhere, especially used, please let everyone know and offer to pick it up if anyone wants it. Most of Gary's CDs are hard to come by, except his US IRS releases. Copies of The Fury and Strange Charm are particularly sought after. Personally, I always offer any disc I find at cost as a service to fellow fans and to engender a sense of community within the group. If I found a copy of Berserker though I might be tempted to put it up for bid however I think finding a copy is almost an impossibility :-) Bye for now, Derek ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Derek H.
