If you hated the cover picture, well it only gets worse inside. As far as the music is concerned, i appreciate the fact that the set list is quite diverse, though obviously from the tour plugging Outland. I would be interested in a live album that doesn't include Cars, Are Friends Electric, or Down in the Park, but I guess that's what programmable CD players are for. Chicago is only 4.5 hours away, that would be FANTASTIC. Detroit, of course would be better but I know that would be too goo to be true. I've been an unofficial member of the non-existant fan club since Pleasure Principle and have recently upgraded to CD thanks to the double CD reissues that came out in the past year or so. The Telekon tour was my only official sighting but of course was totally unforgettable. I still have my program and the grainy pictures I took. I'm anxious to hear news on the recent CD , I also have been waiting to ask someone what ever happened to Paul G and the rest of the band(s). That's all. Oh, huge Kraftwerk fan. Thank you, and Happy Holidays. :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Dec 1994 01:31:05 -0700 (MST) From: LUKET@yvax.byu.edu Subject: Numan US To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Fellow fans, It has been suggested that there be a poll to see where the most Numan support is and to where you fans would be most willing to go to see Gary play. I have received a suggestion of Chicago, due to it's somewhat central location in N. America. Another consideration would be where the most fans are relative to where most people would be willing to go. I have written the UK fan club in hopes that we might receive some encouragement from their camp. So, I will take the poll running to the end of January. Questions are: 1) Where do you live? 2) To what location (major city) would you be willing and able to travel to to see Gary play? Please post your answers to luket@yvax.byu.edu and I will post the results starting shortly after the New Year. Please include your full name on the post. For the fans in the western United States, I would like to hold a unofficial western states\western Canada fan get together some time in the early half of next year. We could get together one Saturday to watch vids (I have Touring Principle, Berserker + Skin Mechanic), show off our other Numan collectibles to eachother and perhaps even buy, sell and trade stuff. We could send pictures of the gathering to the UK fan club to show Gary that he has loyal fans in the US that are willing to travel to see him. Once again, post to the same e-mail address if you'd like to get in on the action. Thanks, Trevor S. Note that Gary's caduceus, like those on most American doctors' business cards, incorrectly shows two serpents, rather than one. I think he got it from some Mac clip art, or from a dingbats typeface. I say this because my local WOM World Of Music has "Dream Corrosion." I was all excited about getting it until I saw the cover, with its amateurish Chicago-font typography and unflattering picture of Gary, and so I didn't. Please, somebody convince me to change my mind. Derek, I like your letter, although you could be a bit more diplomatic about what we didn't like in his last few albums. Granted, it'd be hard to find a Numan fan who'd disagree with the statement "wailing female background singers suck," but there must be a smoother way of saying so, particularly since Gary himself seemed to be quite keen on them. In short, emphasize the positive in Sacrifice more, rather than note the bad points in the albums from Warriors on. I agree with Simon from issue #111 that the letter needs to be more diplomatic. I like the female singers as the provide a good contrast to Gary's voice. Considering he has used them since the Dance album, I'm sure you'll still see and hear them in the future. They are only on one song on Scarifice yes, but the other songs didn't need them. Unfortunately living in the middle of America I haven't seen Gary in concert so my oppurtunity to see him with the female singers has probably passed. Hopefully there are others who like the female singers and now can come out and say so. I don't know if Gary sees this but this is one fan who does like their addition on his ablums. Chicago:5 Washington DC:4 Boston:3 LA:2 Calgary:1 Responses have come in from all over North America. We have even received a message from Austria from a fan their who wants to see Gary in his home country. The poll continues til the end of January. The questions are 1) Where do you live? 2) Where would you be willing to travel to see Gary play? The responses received are appreciated and accounted for. If you mentioned several cities, the ones most frequently mentioned overall were chosen out of your suggestions. We will need a much larger response if we are going to get him over here. Please, write in! The e-mail adress for the poll is: luket@yvax.byu.edu. I still think it would be great fun to have a western states numan fan party. Interest must be shown and a location decided upon. Once again write to the same address. Thanks, Trevor ------------------------------ End of Gary Numan Digest ******************************
