For those who might have been wondering if this single had any different versions on it (like "The Skin Game" 12" single did), I can assure you that it does not. While the single does not list it properly, the A-side is the "A Question Of Faith (devout edit)" which can also be found on the CD single. Indeed, unless you are an obsessive completist, you are better off with just the CD single. For the record, the 12" contains: A Question Of Faith (devout edit) b/w Play Like God and Whisper Of Truth Me! The set list in respectable, as is the run-time. The sound quality, however, leaves much to be desired. It almost sounds like a straight board mix with very little in the way of PCM Audience mics being run on top of it (that gives it the higher-end and a bit more crowd noise). I found it to be rather "compressed" in sound (too much bass, not enough mid-section, and I'm still wondering where the high-end went). What I would like to know is if anybody got the video for it... I believe I read somewhere that there is also a home video of the show -- that could be interesting. -a Adrian L. Subject: Gary Numan Digest V1 #111 To: NUMAN Greetings, hope you all had a good xmas. Tom asked : - >What happened to Paul G. and the rest of the band ? Well up until 1991 the Dramatis crew (Rrussel Bell, Ced Sharpley and Chris Payne) were still touring with Gary (though not performing on the studio work). As to what they are doing now, your guess is as good as mine. Sadly Paul Gardiner passed away in 1984, ten years on a particularly touching moment of the recent Hammersmith gig was when Gary performed Stormtrooper in Dra-g, dedicating it to Paul. As for Dream Corrosion definitely do not let the cover put you off. You see Gary got so fed up with people letting him down over cover design he decided to do it himself. He forked out a few thousand quid on a top wack Apple and called himself NuFederation. Those of you who've got Sacrifice will agree that his design work is improving. The album itself is certainly his best live work (and the video is even better 'cos if you look closely you can see me at the front :)). Buy it Simon. I'm going to give the phone line a bell so I'll mail the latest news next week. See you, Leon. Leon Smith. I can't tell you how happy I am to find all of you. But, at the same time I'm rather saddend. I've loved Gary Numans work since 1981 when my best friend Dan and I were over at a friends house and "Cars" came on MTV. The guy went to turn it off and we almost attacked him for it. Since then we had been avid fans, buying everything we could find. Every new album was like a dream come true. We always fantasized about one day going to a concert. When Dan went into the Marines we would send Gary Numan lyrics back and forth. He even got busted once by a Drill Instructor while writing the lyrics to Down In The Park. The D.I. read the lyrics and just gave them back and walked away. When the CD's came out we went crazy for them. We always had a deal that if one of us found something the other did'nt have he'd buy it for the other. His music has kept me going through some rough times. The roughest being that Dan died this summer 2 days after his 26'th birthday. He was my best friend. Part of me went with him. Dan and I had always said that if one of us goes the other would play a few songs at the funeral. Namely Down in the Park, Remember I Was Vapor, and Aircrash Bureau. His family shot that down as they felt that the funeral should be more for the extended family, but they did give me some of his ashes for me to spread out and play the music. I just have'nt got up the strength to do it yet. Numan music has always been a safe haven for me where I felt at home. It was also a special bond between two friends, kinda like our little private club. I miss my buddy , and I keep listening , and I keep trying. Sorry for all the sentimental babble... Here is some information about myself as you requested. I have been a Gary fan since 1979 when I first heard "Cars" on the radio. This was during the days when new and inovative artist could still get airplay. Speaking of airplay, I am also a radio announcer. I work at Rock 103, WJAD in Albany, Georgia. I am also a musician. I started out on drums, switched to bass when I got tired of hauling drum kits, and ended up on keyboards because of Gary's influence. At this date, I have a band called "Skin MechaniX". And yes, that is also from Gary. Believe it or not, I did not come up with the name, a non-hardcore Gary fan in the band heard the line in the song and suggested it. We will be recording our first CD at the end of January. I am VERY excited to find other Gary fans (and in such numbers!). It will take me a while to get into the swing of this newsletter and the style it is done in, but I must say, keep up the good work. Looking forward to hearing from you again soon, John ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Jan 95 15:20:50 EST From: Phrantic@cybernetics.net Subject: New to the numan list To: numan@cs.uwp.edu (Gary Numan) Hi, I have only been on the list for about a month now, I enjoy it greatly! Regarding Mr.Numan, I can only wonder how many peoples lives were changed in 1980 when he appeared on SNL. I know of one... I have been looking around the WWW for a Numan Homepage, without success. Am I not looking in the right places? I havent had any luck with the FTP discography, But am having a heck of alot of fun messing around with HTML. So, If there is not a Numan Homepage, I would be more than happy to provide one. I just dont have anything to put in it. check out the site listed below for my credentials, and NO, Gary's page doesnt have to be IN the trailerpark.
