Sending requests to subscribe or unsubscribe to this address will make them appear in the Digest which the controller of the list (Dave Datta *not* me) does not necessarily read. As a result your request may not be acted upon. I try to clear things up by sending a note for you to direct your request to the appropriate address which is: numan-request@cs.uwp.edu - send all requests to subscribe, unsubscribe or change your email address to this account. Dave takes notice of this account and takes the appropriate action to fulfill your request. numan-members@cs.uwp.edu - please, DO NOT SEND EMAIL TO THIS ADDRESS even though it appears in the Digest's main headers. This is the alias for all the recipients of the Digest. The Digest is specifically set up to be a weekly one so that recipient's mailboxes do not fill up with separate messages. If you are replying to a Digest message do not "cc" this address or say "yes" to a prompt asking "send to all recipients?" Martin Wagner made the error of doing this earlier this week and not understanding the consequences of saying "yes" sent us all a message individually. I sorted out the problem with him and he apologizes for what happened. dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu - that's me, former moderator, now part time overseer. If you have any questions that are related to the content of the digest or its history etc., please email me. If you did not receive a Digest or if there is a problem let me know. All past issues of the Digest are available via ftp from the music archives at cs.uwp.edu as is the discography. I think that's it. If it weren't for this disscussion list and some really cool people on AOL. I wouldn't even know about Gary's newest album Scarifice. I've been a Numan fan since I was about 13(I'm 27now), oddly enough it wasn' t because of the song Cars. It was because a local radio station that used to play rock concerts on sunday nights. One sunday this radio station played a Gary Numan concert ( I now think they just played Living Ornaments, but at the time I thought it was actually live) this music was different from anything I had ever heard before, and I just had to have the Pleasure Principle, but after that I had to have Telekon, then Tubeway Army and its just been a downward spiral every since :-) Eventually I actually got to see Gary live at Perkins Palace in Los Angeles this was the I Assassin Tour. I unfortunatly didn't get to see the whole show (it's a long and rather boring story). Its because of Gary that I wanted to start making my own music (Which seems to be the case for a lot of Numan fans). When I was 15 I started learning to play the guitar, then bass now keyboards. Anyway I guess thats it, oh by the way I would like to go on record as saying that I join the few people who didn't like the tone of the letter to Gary Numan, By Derek Langsford. Its okay to say the new album is great, but to also say in so many words that everything he has done in the last five years has sucked is not really a good idea. He probably genuinaly thinks albums like Machine & Soul were great, and to tell him otherwise would be a mistake. How would you like if someone said to you, your work today is great, but for the last five years you've been a slacker. C.C. P.S. (I don't have any connection with him other than as a satisfied customer with Numan CDs). As for what's available: I keep a simple CDiscography of Gary's work because most people are interested in getting CDs rather than vinyl these days. It's also a lot smaller then the discography in the music archives which is available from cs.uwp.edu via ftp but it is over 95K long and is not up-to-date. As I often have to tell people the CD, which had the cassette extended mixes, was available for only a short time in 1991/92 via the UK Fan Club. It never saw general release. I was lucky enough with my holding a UK Fan Club membership via my brother's address in London, to obtain over 30 copies for people in the USA, Canada and Australia when I visited the UK in May 1992. They soon ran out after that and have not made another pressing. So, there is no way to get one at the moment. If you would like to see a repressing email Greg Samson at punkboy@u.washington.edu as instructed below. I hope it will see general release some day. To: numanews Hello everyone, My name is Jeff and I've been a Numanoid since 1979!! I use to be part of the UK Numan Fan Club (1983-1987), but decided that the double posting of mail was too expensive after awhile. I continue to write to a fellow Numan fan that I met through the UK Fan Club and met her in 1988 during Gary's Metal Rhythm tour. After the second of three concerts I attended in London that year I did actually meet my hero! To this day it still is exciting for me to remember those shows and meeting Gary and band afterwards. I'm 29 years old and a computer programmer by trade. Have pity on me though as I'm new to the Internet. Some of my other favorite artists besides Gary are: Kraftwerk, Front 242, Depeche Mode, and Nine Inch Nails. I like collecting the music of these groups and I'm always looking to swap rarities with anyone who's interested. My most impressive collection though is of the music, tour programs, videos, etc of Gary Numan. Although I have in one form or another about 95% of Dave Datta's Numan discography, I would like to correspond to anyone with a similar collection of Gary's works to swap material. Well, that's about it for now, but I look forward to hearing from other fellow Numaoids. Bye for now. It may be remain a chicken and egg problem unless we could do an experiment exposing happy people to "Sacrifice" and monitoring their response (visions of disgustingly bouncy, happy people strapped into dental chairs with headphones on come to mind :-). I think I was depressed last autumn/winter. It had been a rough couple of years in my personal life and then other stresses mounted on top of my lack of motivation at work. Perhaps fighting flu for 8 weeks was another symptom of my physical and emotional state. Sacrifice suited my mood then, and I can revisit that mood by just letting "The Seed of a Lie" go through my head. It's become my favourite track on the album despite this effect. No other album of Gary's has had such a big effect on my emotional state. Many have produced significant responses, a sensation associated with the tone of each album, but they have not hit me so hard.
