I am new to this Newsletter so please forgive me if this is a well-worn topic, but I would really appreciate help in determining as complete a discography of Gary Numan as is possible. I thought I had most/all of his stuff (other than bootlegs or impossibly rare Imports) but as I have read this Newsletter I run across names that I don't recognize. I have been a Numan fan since the early 80's and would like to be able to go into a store and ask them to order specific CD titles (and not be asked 'Isn't he the guy who did "Short People"?'). I will list what I have so that it may be easier for people answering this request to fill in the gaps. I understand that the "2 on 1" CD collections have been re-pressed to make full 2 CD sets now. I have listed the CD's I have by catalog number so people who sadly do not have some of these may find it easier to order from their local stores. I guess this is a good start but I'd like as complete a library as possible, however (I realize that this may be blasphemous) I'm not terribly interested in much he did in the really early years (pre 1980's). Thanks in advance. By the way, one of my greatest personal achievements was converting my college roommate (who before meeting me listened almost exclusively to Irish Pipe music, madrigals and folk-tunes) to being a enthusiastic Numan fan. The results are worth it, to be able to ask GN question online and to visit his upcoming web site *and* to be hopeful of obtaining Berzerker on CD was quite a coup. My name's Noah, I'm too young to remember any early Numan. But I own quite a few of his albums, I am really fond of "I, Assasin" "Replicas" "Dance" I have "Living Ornaments" on video and LP I really like listening to my "Change your mind" 12" I found (been looking for it for a long time) I like ke the Tubeway Army as well. (weren't they originally called "The Lasers?") My orther music tastes are a wide range. I mostly listen to Peter Murphy and a lot of 4AD stuff (Cocteau Twins, DCD, etc.) Like a lot of Bauhaus-L&R-ToT music...I am also very big on new wave. Well that's just about all, hope to get the Numan News Digest soon. If you read this, Gary, welcome and it's nice to see you here on the Net. And I'll put in my vote for enjoying meeting the guy; we met at a show in Cleveland on the "I Assassin" tour. When is the next >update >planned ? Planned? Who says anything here planned? :-) Jeff Tolva did the last update but as you say, there are still some things that need to be added. Someday someone may get around to it. That's the best I can promise. DREAM CORROSION AND DARK LIGHT ------------------------------ >Dream Corrosion is listed but I keep seeing people talking about Dark >>Light ,are they one and the same? No, they are different live double albums. "Dream Corrosion" was released in October 94 and was the London leg of Gary's 1993 UK concert tour. "Dark Light" was released June 5 1995 and is one of the London shows from Gary's 1994 Sacrifice Tour. Only 5 tracks are the same on each so they make a pretty good companion too each other. DC sound quality is below par but DL sounds great. Does anyone have a DC CD that sound sharp? Perhaps I'll follow it up with Gary in the first "Gary's Questions" as he has already indicated it should sound crisp and clear which clearly many of ours do not. >Which brings me to what I`m missing : > I still remember > Adrenalin > My world storm > Dream corrosion( aka Dark Light ?) >Not bad for a guy that lives in a city where about 2 stores carry his >>music! Any chance of my finding them? "I Still Remember" is on "The Fury" but the CD is rare having gone out of print many years ago. It will also be on one of the Uk Fan Club-only Babylon CDs. "Adrenalin" was released as Numan/Yen and was put out as a CD5 to my knowledge. IRS though have washed their hands of Numan and Yen product so finding it will again be hard. My World Storm is an album track from "Outland" adn also appreared on 12" vinyl in the USA. Again you'll need luck finding it. Tony B.- do you have it for sale? DC should be available on CD easily. Like "Dark Light" it is an import only from the UK. USE OF GARY'S MUSIC IN ADS -------------------------- >Last year the music for Cars was used here in Quebec for a beer commercial >(Labatt`s Ice), complete with rotating pyramids a la Pleasure Principle >era >,it was a very sci-fi / numanish piece, but how does Gary feel about >his >music being associated with this product ? I thought he didn`t drink >or has thecopyright expired or what ? Then again if he was well paid for >it`s use why not... Tony Webb, Gary's dad and manager, said it is usually fans who bring usage of Gary's music in ads, films etc. to their attention. Gary does not have rights to the Beggars Banquet era catalogue so he cannot control useage of it for ads. As Jeff Tolva posted last week, the Numan organization does make special efforts for people coming from far-off to see Gary perform. I think Gary would be glad to at least say hello to those who have travelled 1000s of miles and spent much money just to see him. I emailed Joe Lindstrom with details of how to go about making arrangements to see Gary tour and make contact with Beryl Webb, his mother. If people organise in a group it might be possible to follow Gary on tour and even meet him. I think Joe is the central person to contact at this point Good luck to all who are planning to make the trip. Many highly improbable events would have to happen for me to be able to join you. I Couldn't use it in the states. >There was a US release in 1993 of about 1 hour of the original show. There is a very unclear story behind all of this. I have two different NTSC versions (not transfers, not copies, but the original releases with pre-printed tape labels and box sleeve) of this Berserker live videotape, one which is about 1 hour long, and another which is closer to 2 hours long. I never really sat down to compare both, but they are for sure of the same tour, and I don't know if they are of the same show! I can add that I acquired both of these in record stores at different times, one around 1988, and another around 1990. There is very little information on the packaging, except that I do remember one of the tapes was issued by Castle Communications. Does anyone know why the different NTSC versions, and is this also the case with the PAL (UK) formats? Matthew, one of the latest members on the digest, mentioned: >Numanoids won't like me for saying this, but I like most music. Geez! In fact, I am quite categoric in that I love and enjoy a wide variety of styles, and can listen to just about anything... except country & western. W.A.
