(Yes, another confession - I'm a completist, a train >spotter, an anorak!!!). First welcome aboard to you and all the other recent subscribers. We must be 300 strong now! The announcement note of the Bablyon CDs said this would complete the transfer of all the vinyl to CD. A galant goal but it raised expectations too high. There is only one mix of each song when many exist for some, and some of which have never been on CD before. Brian Hammond and I wrote a lengthy letter pointing out omissions and suggesting ways to get around to them. With the collaborations we got up to Babylon 14 but even without these there is still room for another 3 volumes. Tony Webb said they are getting mail from fans about omissions and more volumes may come out. FYI, Babylon 4 has been out for a few weeks - it's volume 5 that is next. The version of "I Can't Stop" used is the 10" Club mix - the best one IMO. I used to always wonder about the attraction of train spotting while doing the trip from Edinburgh down to Plymouth - not as bad as recording car license plates (there are far fewer vanity plates in the UK) but still, I can think of far more interesting things to do which don't require inhaling diesel particulates :-) >- Does anyone out there know if it is possible to get any or all of >DRAMATIS's material on CD? [Derek, could you possibly suggest this idea to Gary?]. Nothing from Dramatis has seen CD release. Gary would have to buy the rights to the album from Rocket to issue it. Gary has enough problems with sales of his own albums let alone his back-up band who garnered far less success. I can ask Gary for you in the next Gary Q&A session though. >- Finally (phew!), on a different tack, is Gazza himself on the 'net? >I gather that he has recently started dabbling in PC's for his own >artwork etc, and so I wondered if he had personally ventured into >cyberspace. [Hi there, Gary, if you're reading this!!!]. Yes, Gary is on the net and even interacts with the Digest on a monthly basis in the aforementioned Q & A session which I organize. He is a busy man though and is reluctant to get too involved with the Digest. Also, he wants to keep his email address fairly private and I honour his request. I don't want to scare the man off! Gerald and Mark are both Zendrum users and endorsers so look forward to seeing the Zendrum in their forthcoming video and in the CD-Rom. I hope to be hearing a mix of it soon. Speaking of Zendrums, spoke with Gary on tuesday and it looks like he will become a Zendrum endorser. We will be sending one to him soon. So if all goes well, we shall see him using it. We are going to try to increase his visibility by using him in UK, US, and other international advertising as much as possible (budget providing, of course. My name is Mike Zitaglio and I'm a 30 year old Mechanical Engineer working for the Navy. I have been listening to Gary Numan since I was 16 when the Pleasure Principle was released. I then met a new friend from Ireland and he was also a fan. He introduced me to the other Numan works and I was hooked. I managed to get a lot of his 45's and other albums. I also have a 45 picture disk of "Are Friends Electric and We are so Fragile". The one and only time I saw gary numan live was during the I Assassin tour in New York, at the Ritz in October, 1982. That was really something! The only thing was that he went on at 1 am and I had to go to school the next day. It was worth it! I still have the pictures. They were all in white suites and the UV light made them glow in the dark. While I was waiting on line, Gary and his band came in through the front door and I patted him on the back. I also remember saying hello to Pino Palladino and Chris Slade. I would love to get hold of some memorabilia, especially video collections. The only video I have is the Touring Principle and I know there is more. I even had a hard time finding stuff in England a few years ago. I did find a Visage CD I was looking for and a Japanese import of Asylum 3 (What a find for me!). I have the Living Ornaments box set but it was great getting it on CD! Some of my favorite groups are The Cars, Ultravox, Rush. I played keyboards in high school and fulfilled amny a rock and roll fantasy playing to Gary's albums. My favorite sonds to pla were Airlane and I Die:You Die. I remember seeing Gary on the Kenny Everett Video show. He sang I Die:You Die. Kenny introduced him as Gary Numan..... Is he human? Kenny also imitated him calling himself Gary Oldman. He sand this song about Margarett Thatcher. This is what I can remember: Margarett Thatcher, Margarette Thatcher, she is always lookin' at ya. You will vote for her again, cause who the hell wants Tony Benn? If anyone has this on tape Id love a copy. Maybe I can find the negatives to the concert I went to and make copies. We'll see. I loved MTV's It Came From the 80's clip on Numan. I think it was so cool seeing him in his flight suit and flying his Harvard. No pilot ever loked cooler! Im glad he is doing what's making him happy. By the way, does anyone have the lyrics to Bombers? I'LL keep reading. I've just joined the list and would like to briefly introduce myself. I originaly come from Yorkshire, England, but have lived most of my life in Germany. Gary Numan isn't very well known here, so I have a little trouble getting CD's (especially older ones) here (any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!!). I've listened to Gary since 1979 (Are "friends" electric) and have bought any record/CD I could lay my hands on since, although I must say, I liked the "older" stuff better. I listen to most music, but not jazz, techno or blues.... Can't think of anything else to say for now but greetings to all! Sorry Andy, I feel that would be a violation of their privacy. However, you could ask UK-based fans interested in getting together to email you and from there you could set up a rendez-vous. I don't mind if you use the Digest to advertize this either. Also, there is a contingent of North American fans aiming to make the trip who you might want to meet up too. I'm not particularly fond of >extended remixes, so if just one version of an album is going to be >pressed, I'd say give me the concise, edited version. >Of course, I'd like both versions to be available. One point for supporting an extended mixes release is that it has not been available before whereas the vinyl mixes have. FEI (for everyone's information) the "Fury extended mixes" are not much different in that the whole album clocks in at just over 50 mins, up a meagre 10 mins from the original (cf. Berserker 45 v 60, Sacrifice 46 v 71). Most of the tracks are simple extensions except for "God Only Knows" which has a new extended ending which is quite cool. Ideally it'd be nice to have a two disc set of the vinyl versions + b-sides and on disc two the extended version with the extended b-sides and perhaps the RSPCA versions of "I Still Remember". However, I think that is dreaming. It'll come as either the regular or extended version. The extended version will give everyone something new compared to the regular version. That will ensure better sales and help Numa most. That's why I think most would prefer the extended version. Also, as Gary said himself, the vinyl version is often an editing down of his original songs. That's why the extended mixes cassettes were released at the same time as the vinyl - the vinyl had to wait for editing. I am keen to hear Gary's original ideas for how a song should sound without the contraints of vinyl time limits.
