It answered a few queries, but also raised a few: You mentioned that Babylon-4 has been "out for a few weeks". I placed an order for this at the beginning of September, but I have heard nothing so far. The cheque has not been cashed, which makes me wonder if the order has even been received. Obviously, I want to follow this up with the Fan Club A.S.A.P., but it's such a pain to send a letter. Therefore, is there an e-mail address or even a fax number for the Fan Club, so that members can communicate directly with Beryl & co? Perhaps this could be limited only to GNFC members to limit the volume (sorry, everyone else)? If this is not already in place, is it not worth considering? I have noticed parts of discussions about the re-release of the albums Berserker, The Fury & Strange Charm. This has been "imminent" for ages - is it finally going to happen? (This was a major reason I joined the fan club in the first place, incidentally). The extended version of Berserker has already been released through the club, but they announced recently that it is going on general release. Which version? The original vinyl version (hopefully), or the extended one? My suggestion is that all three albums should be released as 2-CD sets containing both versions of each, also including all associated remixes and B-sides. Finally, a couple of years ago, about 45 Numan tracks were licensed to Receiver Records, but only 15 appeared on the "Here I Am" CD that followed. Is anything due for the other 30? Were there anymore Radio Heart tracks included in those? That's it for now. Look forward to hearing from someone soon. PS: Has Gary said much about the musical direction of his new album? I would like to see (hear) more stuff like 'I Can't Stop', 'Love & Napalm', 'Question Of Faith', 'Call Out The Dogs', 'Strange Charm', and 'America', if anyone's interested. PPS: I was actually JOKING about being a train-spotter, by the way - honestly!! +---------+ | Paul B. | +---------+ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Sep 1995 09:19:18 -0400 (EDT) From: Glen Sutton Subject: fans old/new To: Gary Numan Digest To Rudy (and everyone)- I'm 28 (29 in Jan) and most of my friends who are Numan Fans are 27-30ish. However, after years of playing Numan records when I lived at home, by Mom has learned to like many of his songs. She can recognize a Numan song from 30 yards! Just kidding of course, but she will say "that's Gary Numan isn't it?" Even my nieces and nephew (my sister's kids) who spent a lot of time with us (they are about 5, 7, and 8 now I think) and they like Gary. Vanessa, the eldest, likes to pretend to play keyboards on the TV trays to Cars with me. She also loves to hear me play it for real on my synths. Currently, I am pleased to hear my room mates daughter and her friends (they are 17 to 21) say they know who Numan is and like what they have heard. Mostly cars, and many have just discuvered him through the 'Speed' soundtrack CD that has Cars-'93 Sprint on it. So I think the message is spreading. Keep the faith. It's great to be aboard. My name is Paul. I'm from Dublin. I've been a fan of Gary since 1979. I've been to most of the tours since 1985. I feel somewhat unique amounst Numan fans in that I think the later material is just as good as the old stuff (wailing b/vox and all). I am really looking forward to discussing this and all other Numan topics but for now I hope you don't mind if I put a few questions to you all. I apologise if some or all of these topics have been covered already but I haven't downloaded the archives as yet. Here goes. 1) Can anyone enlighten me as to what goes on the UK Numan tlephone lines. Non UK residents can't dial these numbers. 2) I've heard the new album is due in FEB 96 to be called Exile. Any confirmation ? 3) Do I have a faulty Dream Corrosion CD or is the sound quality less than perfect (Dark Light sounds SO much better). 4) Are there any plans to re-issue Images on CD ? Thats all for now. Talk to ya soon. Many Thanks Alexander Deacon ------------------------------ Date: 25 Sep 95 16:54:41 EDT From: Subject: London Visit To: Hello, I've been working at an exhibition in London for the last week (and I bumped into a Digest subscriber there - hi Rupert Goodwins!) We work on rival PC magazines - so it was no coincidence. However, some Digest T-Shirts would have made the process easier. Of course, it wasn't all work and no play. I managed to survey my favourite music outlets for Numan goodies and luckily was able to complete a few more holes in my collection. I picked up the long box US import of Outland, the picture disc version of The Plan, the Emotion CD single, the 12" of Dream Corrosion, the 7" poster bag version of Cars (Sprint) and that elusive vinyl copy of Isolate that I thought had never been issued. If anyone is interested, I spotted copies of The Document Series, Sacrifice and the 1993 Tubeway Army/Dance CDs going for around seven UK pounds in Soho. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Matthew Holbrook http://www.county.net/machman/numan.html ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Sep 1995 11:17:27 -0700 From: Ronald Cole Subject: Non-UK Gary Numan Fan Club To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Without wanting to get off to a false start, I've been quiet about starting this up while I got my affairs in order. After considerable thought, I've decided that I will pretty much attempt to be the Non-UK GNFC. That means that my wife and myself will attempt to provide the UK Fan Club services to the rest of the world. That means that the prices will be a bit higher because of the constraints that Beryl has put on the transactions. But rest assured that this is a labor of love and that I really don't want to make a profit; I just want to cover my costs, postage, and currency conversion. So, those of you who want to get the fan club material, will have to join the fan club. I'll make the prices available after I find out how many fan club packets to order from Beryl and how much it will cost. For those who still want to join, please write or fax your intentions (please, no e-mail for this initial phase) so that I can get the ball rolling. The address: Kristina Cole P.O. I'm really from Russia. Live and work in Moscow since late 70s. Before that I grew up at the coast of Black Sea. As most of you I'm 31, and first time I hooked up was _Dance_ album, mainly because I was devoted Japan fan those days and all british music as well. You may imagine how impossible it was to obtain any western music here at communist times. There was NO any place to buy them offically. Even now, I estimate that there are about 20 to 30 copies spreaded in Russia of any Gary's LP. So I have normal album stuff mostly. I also grew up with Soft Cell, Gang Of Four, B52, English Beat, Specials, Adam Ant and all that stuff you might hear from John Peel. Oh, and BLANCMANGE of course. (Can someone from the UK send me Neil Arthur CD "Suitcase" along with "Sacrifice" to London's address of the company I work for? We can workout exchange mechanism - there are plenty of interesting CDs here from Europe, US and Russia itself) My collection is about 300 LPs, 100 CDs and 500 open-reel tape copies. But the most creative band for me remained Martha and The Muffins (M+M) from Toronto. I started mailing list and got in touch with the band this year. We have just 35 subscribers due to low popularity of the band, so if anyone on the list thrilled, please join. And what about Gary's popularity here? I know there was about 20 fans couple of years ago, when I was frequently visiting record swap. Now it's gone and replaced with CD swap where _Here I Am_ could be found in substantial quantities. You may figure out the rest. Tip of my hat to you all, Gleb G. Zverev Senior System Analyst Russian Privatization Center P.S.
