My name is Clive Jones I live in Slough. Berkshire. England. I am a Keyboard player. Special thanks to Gary for inspiring me with his early synthesizer ' machine music '. Q: As a fellow musician I'm interested to know how you met the line up that recorded 1979's ' The Pleasure Principle' and who consequently toured with you ( Ced, Rsussell, Chris, Billy Currie ). I know Chris penned Visage's ' Fade to Grey ' with Billy and perhaps Midge Ure - how much do you know about this? Walters from Frankfort, Indiana USA. I've been a fan since '79. I have a tattoo of the Tubeway Army cover on my arm and that's how close I feel to Gary Numan! My question is: Q. Some many years ago, I was a teen sitting in front of the TV at home, alone, watching SHOWTIME -- an American Cable channel. Between shows in those days, they played --what eventually became known as -- music videos. One video that is still, to this day, etched into my brain is Gary Numan -- Cars. This video showed all these vehicles, buried to the axels in a sort-of trailer park setting. I'd like to know, who made the video and if it is available -- anywhere at any price? Stay Numan! Troy -- Beware of the IDGAF Syndrome... Beware of the IDGAF Syndrome... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Dec 95 21:41:02 MST From: numanoid@netway.ab.ca (Joey Lindstrom) Subject: Lyrics - Round Two To: numan@cs.uwp.edu The response to my request for hard-to-find lyrics has been incredible - I've managed to bring the list of needed lyrics down to a very small number... namely, lucky 13. In doing so, I've installed more than 60 sets of lyrics supplied by various nice folks around the internet and I've also REMOVED from the list those songs that only appeared on the "Live At The Roxy" bootleg - my feeling here is that if and when these songs are ever formally released, then and only then will I re-file them in the lyrics list. It's going to be virtually impossible to get the lyrics for them anyways - there seems to be very little agreement on what the song TITLES are to begin with. I would like to thank the following individuals for their help during Round One of the Great Lyrics Roundup. If I missed your name, it's by accident and not intentional. Sean Francis, Donald Pedder, Robert Trousdale, Andi Jones, Derek Langsford, Gary Numan, Michel Lafontaine, Scott Levitt, & Ted Adams. Also, as always, special thanks to Matthew Holbrook and Dave Datta, without whom I would not have been able to get this project started. Now, on to Round Two: I am still in need of lyrics for the following songs: Adrenalin Bunch Of Stiffs I Don't Believe Ice House Love Is The Doctor Love Like A Ghost Radio Heart Shame She Cries This House Is Cold (yeah, I know) Tread Careful Tribal White Light - White Heat If you've got any of these or would be willing to go through the time and trouble to get them, please let me know at numanoid@netway.ab.ca - this lyrics database is nearly complete and it's an awesome resource for all of us. If you'd like to view the current database, aim your browser at: http://www.netway.ab.ca/numanoid/lyrics/tracks.html (NOTE: this page is currently rather large. I'll be splitting this into seperate pages in alphabetical order just as soon as I can spare some time for it) /--------------------------------------------------------- / Joey Lindstrom / numanoid@netway.ab.ca / http://www.netway.ab.ca/numanoid/wwwebb.htm ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Dec 1995 12:35:45 -0600 (CST) From: Monica and The Machman Subject: Qs on two upcoming releases To: Gary Numan Digest Can anyone tell me exactly what is meant by "A-sides in a re-mastered style" for the Premium Cuts Beggars Banquet release due out at the end of January? Is this just Gary's new vocals on his old hits/same music? Does anyone also understand what we can expect from the Castle release called "Techno Army" due out in March? When I think of the term techno, I think of groups like Prodigy and Moby. Again, will this release be techno renditions of Gary's old hits? Help me if you can with these questions -:) For the record, I'm not particularly fond of the tribute album name called "Songs that have come in from the cold". Sounds like a spuff on the James Carre book, "The spy that came in from the cold". The Kraftwerk tribute albums have played on Kraftwerk's "Trans Europe Express" song title. I'm sure we could suggest a play on one of Gary's hits for a tribute title to Beggars. I can't think of anything good at the moment. Any ideas from our creative-thinking Digest members? To: numan@cs.uwp.edu With the help of Gareth Davies and Paul B. I think I am finally getting to the bottom of the Skin Game questions. Babylon 6 contains what I think is the 'digi mix' as on the CD single. the timing is only 2 seconds shorter and the first minute and a half is identical. All the previously released tracks on Babylon 6 are 2 or 3 secs shorter than their original releases and this contistancy means I am pretty certain that the version of 'Skin Game' is the 'digi mix'. Likewise the cversion of "Emotion" used is the CD mix as on the CD single. Rather uninspired choices in that other versions are out there - notably the "Skin Game" Lycra and nu mix and the real Emotion 12" which I am told is slightly diferent from the CD mix. Thus the labelling of Emotion as the 12" on Babylon 6 may be another error. The "Skin Game" lycra mix is the same as that on the "Machine and Soul" extended CD but the nu-mix has not seen CD release yet. So, I expect to change the request on Babylon 8 to the nu-mix from the lycra mix. Let me know if you disagree with any of this. I think I can shead a bit more light on it. Before the first night of Gary's Wembley concerts on 26th April 1981 numerous tapes were played before the support Shock came on stage. One of these tapes featured a song with the line "come to the restaurant zom zom a zom zom' or something similar. I made the connection with DITP and it became lodged in my mind, the song sounded like it was written by Marc Bolan but I have never heard it since. BTW I remember some years ago Probalbly around 80/81 seing a soundtrack album of a film featuring Eddie Kid (UK Motorbike Stunt rider), this featured Remember I was Vapour, I was wondering if this version was the full one or maybe an edit, anyone got a copy ?
