As I was remarking to the person lovely enough to send it to me , Automatic is pretty much the way Gary would sound if he had been a succesful Top 40 mid 80's pop star, no? Which isn't to say I don't like it, just that it's good pop/dance, mediocre Gary (IMVHO). As I've said before, Gary could start making muzak (shudder), and I'd probably listen to it. Also, I went to Main St Records last week and bought a butt-load of stuff, and I have to say that Ken Reed's collectibles are in very good condition. He's got a lot of stuff, and is pretty knowledgeable about Gary. His puter was in the shop last week or the week before, so if you've mailed hiom and haven't gotten a response, that's probabaly why. He is aware of the Digest, as well. Happy hunting :-) Clea, still clueless -- Duchovnik! Wow! This is great news. It would also be great if I could get ahold of some of this promo stuff. I collect standees (cardboard cutouts) and anything from this would be awesome. If any UK fans can help get some of this I would be really ecstatic, and I would pay you well for your trouble. So if anyone sees any of these promo materials available in the future, please let me know. I am particularly interested in a full-size Gary, but other stuff might be interesting too. Does anyone know if there ever has been a Gary standee made in the past? Good to have ya on board. Now for the rest of you lot: there are some rather attractive reasons to telnet into UNM-MOO. 1) The ability to get the whole lot of you in one area to talk Numan in a chat like interface. 2) The ability to make interesting Numan Enviroments to impress/scare your friends, loved ones, or fellow Numanoids. 3) The chance to learn about Object Oriented programming at an easy, understandable level. 4) The privilledge (yeah right ;-} ) of poking holes in the NumaZONE complex I'm building on the MOO. So, connect up and once you're on, do a: @request for This command will create your character and email you back with a short blurb and the randomly generated password it's created. I really like to see more of you connect. I'd enjoy the opportunity to talk Webb with you! If anyone on the list is interested and is having problems, *PLEASE* email to the below address and I'll help you through it. It's worth the learning curve, and you'll truely enjoy the experience, believe me! Nuff said. Picked up `Dream Corrosion` this week- end at a Best Buy here in Illinois. Wow! Outside of the flat response Gary's PA system was giving him (I'd take that to be due to the `chorus` effect applied to his mike position) the selection was pheonominal. It's a good thing I bought the new car with the JBL system, I may need it! Anyone out there know of some good Chi-town locations for picking up more recent Numan, rather than have to order from the UK? Thanks. Hearing all the bad reviews on the board, I was expecting one of the worst Numan CDs of all time. But, in actuality, it's not too bad. Granted, "Soul Protection" has that Rhythm Nation chorus in it, the disk as a whole stands up pretty good. Maybe it's because I was expecting the worse, I don't know, but I feel it was worth the trade-in price! You'll have to forgive me, but as an ignorant Yankee who's never been anywhere, I have no idea of what Radio One is. From what I've read, it's the premiere/only place for new music in the UK??? Hmm. Seems rather.....well, it seems--no offense--pathetic. Why can't Gary (or whomever, it's not like I'm familiar with the process) find some independent or college radio stations who will play his work? To: numan@cs.uwp.edu (Gary Numan) I finally received the two t-shirts I ordered from Benjamin Holcomb. They arrived on January 19 in a mailer. All I can say is that they were well worth the wait. The quality of the print is excellent and the shirts are high-quality. I will proudly wear this shirt in public! Kudos to Mr. Holcomb and imp graphic studios! Also, I wanted to add a little note about the poll for songs for Gary to play in concert. I didn't vote. I didn't simply ignore it, I chose not to vote. My reasons appear to be similar to many others that replied in Digest #194. I won't be able to travel to the UK to see the tour and, if I could, I'd like to think I'd be watching a showing of what _Gary_ wants to play. If truth be told, it would be an honor just to see Gary live, so I'd be happy to see him play anything live. I can't even fathom being picky about what he plays. If, as a result of a new label, he begins to tour the US on a semi-regular basis and I get to see him two or three times, then I'll worry about getting choosy over which songs I'd like to hear live. (As a youngster, I had to pass up the only two possible chances to see Gary live (in Pittsburgh, PA on the Telekon and I, Assassin tours) because I wasn't old enough to drive their myself. I've regretted the fact that I was born so late ever since. ) All in all, though, I appreciate the input we Digest subscribers we are able to provide to Gary. I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd be able to "talk" with Gary via the Digest or even get as close as the Internet and the Digest have allowed us all to do. I think that we're all very lucky that Gary takes the time to participate. However, I'd still like major decisions like song selection and album/song ideas to come from Gary. Not that we have that much influence, but I don't ever want to feel like we're poisoning the well we drink from and enjoy so much. The Digest is the main reason that my collection of Gary Numan stuff has grown from just the original US vinyl releases of his Atco/Beggar's Banquet stuff (plus the IRS stuff) to what it is today. Over the course of a year as a subscriber to the Digest, I've been able to find most of the Numa releases on CD and a few of the Receiver and Castle compilations. I just picked up HUMAN and am currently hunting down BERSERKER. Well, enough of my rambling... The host--A.J.
