I've decided not to offer it to the first reply, but rather to auction it here. I'm doing so because there have been times in the past where I've just missed out on The Fury or Strange Charm. I was willing to pay top dollar but the discs was promised to the first reply. I had to "camp" at my computer in order to get those discs. Anyway, this disc is hard to find, but still out there somewhere. Bidding starts at 25USD. Bids are in $5 increments, to move things along. Send bids to this address: zippy@ecst.csuchico.edu I'll be back in the States on April 1st, so bidding will end at that time so that I can ship the disc. The comment "The Rentals are more Human than Numan-Gary that is" is simply an obvious lack of intelligence on the part of the author. To criticize Gary Numan is like shooting yourself in the foot. The Rentals were inspired and influenced by Numan so it would be imprudent to make comments such as this without expecting some major retaliation. The fact is Gary Numan is truly more Human than most of those so called "artists" in the music industry today. Any magazine or newspaper should wake up and pay a little more attention. Gary is still making music and it is unfortunate that critics have their heads so far up their butts to realize that his best music is being produced at this very moment. The problem is that people who make comments like the one mentioned above are sadly mistaken. Gary Numan has a bigger following than most "critics" think. It will be a day to remember when he signs a record contract with a huge company like Warner Bros or Capitol. Then the joke's on you. Thanks and have a nice day, Ron. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Feb 1996 11:57:29 -0800 From: dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu (Derek Langsford) Subject: Gary's says "thank you" for the T-shirt To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Monday (Feb 19) Gary emailed me to thank us for the Digest T-shirt which I sent as a present from the Digest. I am submitting this message to invite all fans of Gary Numan to stop by and check out the new Gary Numan IRC channel. This provides the opportunity for real-time chats among Numan fans worldwide! I have been working on this with Robert Eggleston who is the author of the 'Are Friends Electric' Internet site. We have had a few successful tests and have been able to chat live on-line with other Numan fans around the world. We currently have a standing meeting time Sundays at 9:00p.m.-10:00p.m. UK time (4:00p.m.-5:00p.m. US Eastern Standard Time) and I welcome any suggestions for other times that might suit other fans. If anyone has any questions about the Numan Channel or IRC in general, feel free to e-mail me or even better to stop by the 'Are Friends Electric' site. Robert has devoted a section of his page to IRC and what it is, how to use it, and how to access it. He has even provided links to sites where one can download IRC software. We are hoping to make the Channel permanent and in order to do so, we need to submit the names of 10 supporters of the channel to Undernet who is the IRC server we are using. All we need is the nickname you will use on IRC and your e-mail address. So far, six names are on the list so we are almost there. Anyone interested can submit the information to Robert or myself. Anyway, I hope this is of interest to some of the fans out there and I look forward to chatting with all of you. Regards, Brian McGibbon e-mail (bmcgibbo@ix.netcom.com) p.s. To: mailing-list Hi, as per request here's a bit about myself. My name's Ste Cork, I've been a fan since I first heard "Are Friends Electric?" in '79, and have bought almost everything I could find since then. I've only just heard of the Numan online stuff though (this and the Web sites), and recently got in with a fellow group of Numanoids through the back pages of the Fanclub newsletter # 48 and have had a great time at some all-Numan discos recently. I'm 29 (almost), and write computer games for a living (over 11 years now). As well as Numan I also like/collect a fair cross-section of music including Bowie, Kraftwerk, Landscape, Kate Bush, Hazel O'Connor, Iron Maiden, Helloween and Motorhead (some mixture eh?), and live in Lancashire, England. I tend to prefer the early Numan tracks ("Only a downstat", "Oh, didn't I say", "Friends", "Exhibition", "Face to Face" etc), but I still like (and buy) the new releases. The "Sacrifice" album was great (back on the right track Gary!) as I had been a bit disappointed with the "Machine and Soul" and "Outland" albums, I didn't think they were anywhere near as good as his other ones. Well, that's my $0.02 worth... :-) Ste C. (100135.3052@compuserve.com) PS. Why does everyone seem to refer to "Metal" & "Moral" as being the same track?. Ok the tunes are the same, but the lyrics are completely different. It's not like the situation when "Face to Face" and "Puppets" (? - off the top of my head) were exactly the same track but under two different names, now that *was* confusing... ------------------------------ Date: 20 Feb 96 14:13:16 EST From: Subject: London Disco Report To: The first London Mega Numan Disco took place on Saturday 10 February. Despite previously bad weather and the massive explosion less than a mile and a half away, the disco went ahead as planned. Two tonnes of lights had been brought up from Cheltenham and assembled in the Williams Wine and Ale House, Artillery Lane. These included eight RoboScans, twisters, a variety of lighting panels and other effects. The venue was perfect for a Numan disco. Attendees had no trouble spotting the disco. Smoke could be seen in the street - emerging from the slightly open windows. 1996 tour posters also adorned the building and there were leaflets inside. On entering the building, you were greeted with almost total darkness - apart from a couple of strong white lights that were shining through the alcoves. The Fan Club stall was present, as promised. Here a variety of stock was on offer - including a limited edition "Sacrifice" mug that had been made up just for the event; only 100 of these were made! Other merchandise included T shirts and promo CDs. Maria and Tina from the Fan Club did a wonderful job.

By 19:30, quite a few people had already arrived - both old faces and new. And it was at this time the disco started - with "Mission" and then "Machine and Soul" - using an almost identical lighting pattern to what Gary has used on tour. This was also true of many other songs - it was clear a lot of effort had been put into the lights. The dance floor quickly filled to bursting point and then stayed that way until the disco finished at 01:00. Most classic Numan tracks were played this night - some in both studio and live forms. The disco sold out - all 150 tickets were taken. There were some guests of the pub management present - but they must have been Numan fans because everyone seemed to be joining in and singing along. Overall, that was a very special night and the atmosphere was truly electric. If only we could have bottled the feeling that night.... Many believe it was the best Numan disco ever held. And don't be surprised to see another one popping up in the same venue before too much longer. It was nice to see several members of the Digest at the disco, but it was a shame my Imp T Shirt had not arrived in time for the event. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Matthew Holbrook NU-Zone http://www.county.net/machman/numan.html machman@county.net ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Feb 96 17:05:27 +0100 From: na468@fim.uni-erlangen.de (Markus Dietrich) Subject: NU To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hello altogether ... Hello Derek, I think there was one copy of the Automation CD left! Maybe I can get it, but how to serve it to you!?! I think the only way can be that we exchange Numan CDs. I hardly can get Numan Maxi/Single CDs. So if you are able to buy for example the Dark light Maxi CD or an other, this would be fine. So I send the Automation CD to Yours, and looking forward to the Dark light or so ... Stupid, but I really dont know if you live in the UK or the United States ... If there is another great fan of the Automation CD I would server also mine, because it is better that it got someone who really enjoys it. I think the price is near the same of the Automation CD here and a Maxi CD in the UK. So I would send two Auto. CDs for two (different) Maxi CDs. I think money is not practicable, because I have no credit card! To the digest: Does anyone in the UK visit the video gallery that are perform (I think) two weeks ago in London? Here in germany I heard in radion about it. It should be a presentation from the first video clips up to now. Therefore I think 4Cars4 must be presented over and over?!? Another topic I think it is not the best to buy more and more Numan products directly from the numan stuff over the internet. We must force the record stores to serve the numan products. If we don4t want that the record stores reduce the products we must buy in the public! Good work. You da man. Thanks again Imp. By the way, I surf the radio stations here in the Denver area, like I surf my TV, and have come to the conclusion that when there is any kind of 80's retro playtime, Cars seems to always get played. Why Cars though? Isn't there any other song of the 80's that could be considered representative of this era? We all assume that we know the answer to the question, but do we really? Don't get me wrong, I do turn the radio up when it comes on. The first was on a classic rock radio station, they were using CARS for the background music during the traffic report. The second occurred yesterday in none other than in a HQ hardware store. As we were passing a display for outdoor above ground speakers. My wife thinks it was on tape as the local alternative station was playing another song moments before as we left our car. My question is has anyone else here in the USA been hearing Numan at all. To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Regarding my last post to the Digest (201). I guess I let my " over the top" sense of humor get away from me a bit. I made the posting in the spirit of good natured fun. However, after rereading my comments, I can see how my sense of playfulness could have been lost in translation. I still think Chuck Eddy's comments in his LIVE! collumn (SPIN, March 96) were a little shallow and out of touch, and can be taken as an opportunity to give some positive imput and show support for Gary. SPIN has a large international readership, and this could be a great way to plug Gary's more recent work. After all, it's not 1980 anymore, Gary is very human, and he doesn't sing like a robot!
