This statement, of course, preceded and followed Marilyn Manson's lovely (I say that w/ tongue firmly implanted in cheek) video version of the Eurithmics "Sweet Dreams (are made of this). Mmmmh. I bet they'll play some of the cover tunes...especially the Foo Fighters if they make a video, but who's willing to bet they'll never be a Gary Numan video? With the possible exception of the "Cult Classic Clip" of "Cars" or "Down in the Park" will we ever see a video by Gary on this infamous show? I doubt it. I hope these goofballs at MTV will prove me wrong. Please prove me wrong. I'm tired of watching 18-year-old grunge kids on 120 Minutes or 30-40 year-old grunge slackers. arg. Oh, do I sound bitter. On a brighter note, at least they took the time to mention his name. Love in Numan, Trena p.s. Troy are you still out there? I used to collect alot of all his rare stuff back then, picture disks, 12", 10", etc, but most of it got stolen, approx 60 records, from my car when I was moving house in 1989. It was very depressing. Since then I have just been collecting his CDs. The Asylum albums were great. I nearly got back all the music I had lost. I have not got Asylum 3 yet. None of the record shops in Dublin have it. I'm going to Paris next week, so I'll try out Virgin there. Other musical interests, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, Nick Cave, Mylene Farmer, Sisters of Mercy, Throwing Muses, Japan, The Breeders, Pulp, Bjork, Kim Wilde's before the 90s, Ultravox, and many more. General interests: Fast cars and my lovely Apple Mac which I'm using now, no wounderful Apple MacOS v that thing called Win95 comments please!!!! This weekend I found GAry Numan "New Anger", Document Series present Gary Numan, and Gary Numan Dance/Tubeway Army (double cd). And I remember just how good they really were.. Now If I could get my local (southern California) dealers to stock them. On a related note. On the NuWorld Web site. Is there anyway for Gary, or whoever to accept U.S. Dollars.. Unlike the U.K., we can't just walk into any bank and exchange dollars for sterling.. Thanks / \ | Rodney D. Just a brief note on the discussion on Gary and industrial music that went on a couple of weeks ago. Whilst clearly it would be pointless for Gary to adopt a style of music he wasn't committed to, associating himself with the industrial scene (which he has done quite blatantly with his choice of support acts for the coming tour) is no bad thing. For example I'm going to see Gary for the first time on tour on Monday at Bristol (if any of you are there I'll be wearing a Numannews t-shirt, PLEASE talk to me -:). Normally just me and my brother go to the gig. However because of the support act, Mesh, I'm taking five of my mates, some of whom may be going to Birmingham as well to see Sheep on Drugs. So if association with the industrial scene can get people to see Gary then its got to be a good thing. By the way Imp, thanks for the t-shirt. Top quality and a speedy response, what more can you ask for. I am an actor and have co-starred in a movie called Sinistre (yes it is spelled right). I also did help on the score. I just want to say that I appreciate Mr. Numans' technical and artistic ability and I'm glad that he has been one of the most influencial, albeit unrecognized, artists in the past two decades. P.S. I enjoy most sci-fi and horror and was thrilled to find out that one of my favorite movies is also enjoyed by Mr. Numan. I would be entirely thrilled to have him in a movie with myself, maybe one day. Good, Bad, I'm the one with the gun. Numan stuff To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Gary will have played his first show in Folkstone by the time this Digest reaches everyone. Anyone see the show? I'm sure everyone wishes Gary every success with this tour. I hope subscribers seeing concerts won't make the rest of us too jealous. I look forward to your reports, provided you don't gloat too much :-) I'd also like to publically thank Robert Trousdale and his SO Cara for a fun Numanizing weekend last week. It is a rare event for me to be able to talk in person with another about Numan in such detail in preson. We played Numan CDs, watched some videos and went CD shopping. Great fun! Thanks Robert and Cara. Anyone have "Premier Hits" yet? Any noticeable differences in the mastering? (Yes, I am asking about sound quality again). Has anyone in the UK received Babylon 7? No one has posted they have and I have not received my copy yet. Has distribution been postponed till after the tour? That's about it. Well, I certainly think that skinheads, Neo-Nazis, and their ilk are lower than wormshit. But, like it or not, in America (and other nations) we do have freedom of speech, and as loathsome as they are, these people have a right to express their views. Still, I think someone would have to be crazy to vote in this campaign either way. If you voted white-power-NO, your e-mail address could end up on somebody's list and you'd find yourself mercilessly flamed for being anti-free speech. If you voted white-power-YES, the same thing could happen and you'd find yourself flamed for being racist nazi-sympathising scum. So stay away from the whole thing, would be my advice. And if the newsgroup does come into existence, simply don't subscribe to it. Martin Wagner ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Mar 1996 13:03:19 GMT From: Simon.Wooldridge__Mr@att.com Subject: Premier Hits To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Bit disappointed that Cars started to slide after a pretty good TOTPs performance (imho). I was a bit concerned about the end of the song however, in that there is just a lot of repetitiveness instead of a `proper` end to it. Doesn`t bother me, but might have put off some potential punters. Saw the C4 teletext review of Premier Hits, and it was very positive. Can`t remember the score (must look it up this weekend), but the review went somewhere along these lines: "Gary Numan has a reputation as a wierdo.....don`t let that put you off... enjoy a nice slice of funk synth...." Knew I should have copied it down. The reviewer also made specific mentions to Down In The park and Complex as the standout tracks. This reviewer doesn`t mince his words, so this is pretty good. Wonder what the Q review will be like? Anyway, I was in 2 minds as to whether or not to buy Premier Hits due to fact that I had everything on it (having bought the Premier Mix the weekend b before). Then something fortuitous happened to make my mind up for me. For my birthday on Wednesday 20th some kind soul thrust some money in my hands saying "I would have bought you a CD but you`ve probably already got it". Well, I thought it`s not costing me anything and could help the comeback so what the hell. Now for some strange reason its taken up permanent residence in my CD player. Here`s hoping for a No.1 album at least. :-) ttfn, Si swooldri@mlsmc.mlm.att.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Mar 96 14:02:37 GMT From: P Lindsay Subject: Track listing for the tour To: numan@cs.uwp.edu I'm agreeing with the chap from the Cardiff Cybercafe - if anyone is going to see any of the first couple of dates of the Premier tour, could they put a track listing of what Gary's playing on the Digest. I'm taking some non-fans (friends) to the gigs at Glasgow and Nottingham, and I want to give them fair warning and the benefit of hearing the tracks beforehand. I'm assuming he won't be playing many of the tracks featured on DarkLight except for those from Sacrifice. cheers in advance!
