Milam, Jr." Subject: Berserker CD To: numan@cs.uwp.edu After four months of waiting my Berserker CD arrived at the store that ordered it for me. I was getting a little worried. Anyway, I am confused as to what I received. It is a CD from 1991, at least that is what the copyright date is on it. I don't think it was a used shrink-wrapped copy. If it was it was taken very well care of(no scratches or other signs of being used). I don't have a copy of the discography, but I guess it would show up on that list. I doubt there was a misprint. It has the original artwork(at least the same as the vinyl copy I have from 1984). And only a couple of the tracks have a little more music in them. I was hoping it would be the exact same tracks as the record, but it doesn't bother me. But my point(finally...) is how did they come with that copy of the CD? Maybe they know of a secret stockpile of hard-to-get CD's. When I wanted to order it, I asked the clerk if they could get the CD for me. I told the other stores said they don't show it listed so they couldn't order it. He said that he has a way of getting items that the others can't. So I am quite happy now and am *only* missing Automatic on CD to complete my collection of all his albums on CD. (I know that some people say Automatic is not his album, but close enough for me.) Ralph Milam P.S. Everybody, please try to stick to Numan subjects as much as possible on the digest. :-) We see enough bickering and flaming in the newsgroups. I've kinda grown used to Gary hitting the number 40 or 50 mark, and to be honest, as long as the records come out, I dont care if they go to number 1 or if Im the only one that buys them !! As much as Gary wants hits, I really hope he doesnt compromise his music in order to get them (He tried that from '88 to '91 and look what he came up with !) Anyway has anyone got any good quality videos or audios from the Premier tour ? Finally, I'm glad al this childish nonsense has been stopped. I cant believe its all been added to by someone refusing to read the digest again !! Well ... his loss... Is anyone planning to see Gary support Pulp and Supergrass in Chelmsford in August ? I got a ticket via mail. I arrived at 10.30am heathrow. At airport I asked for bed&breakfirst possibility, but they said that London is booked out and the lowest night lodging is at about 56 pounds (to much!). I was not really frighted about that. The only thing I had in mind was to look for and to by CDs that are not available in germany. So I went strai- ght to piccadilly circus (Sorry before I went to hammer- smith to visit the labatts apollo. If I had known that it is the same as hammersmith odeon in 1991 (Outland), this were superfluous. Took some tour info sheets, which I dis- tributed in various record shops later.) First I entered TOWER RECORDS! I am very angry about the fact that they had not one Cars Premier Mix Single CD (at this time it was at place 52; this number was totally empty, and there was additionally no separate Numan labelled space at the normal CD Single tables! I asked the stuff where the problem are, and they said Cars is dropping out of the charts and therefore there are no copies left. But this is absolut rubish, because if a single goes this way, it is not bought, and if a CD is not bought then it is still in the record shop! But anyway, I went to HMV which had enough Cars and Premier Hits CDs. Here I bought both (the best layout and quality of a numan CD ever. Then I went to HMV Oxford, Virgin Store Oxford, Virgin Mega Store near Tottenham Court. At all stores the same: A very small varity of numan album CDs, but many copies of them!?! AND NO Single or Maxi CDs other than Cars, sorry. At about 8pm I was not able to walk a step (underground had power problems, so many basic stations were closed), my feets are whole pains!!! AND I had no bed for the night. At 5am at sunday the last pubs, coffees and other things closed, where I want to come past the night and I am at least can sit down. Fortunately I meet a nice malysian guy and we talked about anything. (At my job we build software for the new airport of his home town called Kuala Lumpur). He offered me to slep at the bottom of his room and I did. At 11am I went to Holland Park to the youth hostel holland house, where I got night standings for the next to nights. So I could concentrate myself on the concert at the evening (means to slep hour of the day). At 7.15pm I went to hammer- smith, where I first made pictures of the apollo from outside. Then I searched for digest members (looked for the described tshirts). I only found 4 of such with a thirt (there are so many different tshirts it was the horror). I had the Automatic CD with me, because the digest people mentioned that it is so rare and I dont like it. But no one was interested. Anyway I meet two digest members (sorry I cant remember Your names => send me a little email to get your names again), very nice guys. I was of course a little strained, because I asked them all the question I ve ever want to ask :-). I dont went into the concert when the supporting band plays, because I heard the music and immediately dont liked it. Bought a premier tshirt, and immediately weared it. THEN IT COMES! I wanted to go inside, but I am said, that at my place and others a mixing device was installed, and that I will get a new one. Unfortunately the waiter gave me a ticket for the VERY first row. Many fans would pay much money for a ticket like this, but I want to sense the atmospheric behind most of the fans, so I quickly tried to exchange the ticket with anyone other. But unbelievable it was very hard. Most of people I asked, were in a group and dont want splitted. In the end I stand at row AA25, which I changed with someone that then changed with anotherone in the middle which delighted row 1. The show began, and I made ready my camera, which I had hidden very strong at entrance. I first wondered because of the very small stage! But Gary AND all the fans were great! I like the songs where all fans pointing to gary with the arms towards the stage and all such things. I very liked Noise Noise, Me! I ..., Films, Remind me ..., and some of the new (Exil) songs, which I dont know by name! The fans were so enthusiastic that I wished the live recording made at labatts apollo, but I know the accustic is not quite well. The most songs, the fans weres singing with gary - quite fascinating! At the end I meet THE TWO other fans again, and we tried to get a autograph from gary. We went to the right of the buil- ding where about 20 other fans were still waiting at the Stage Door. But we didnt see gary himself, but someone of the security? took all the records, posters, tour-guids and so on to gary, which signed it. Later we got our signed things back. Sorry I thought that there is a meeting at the hotel where gary stays that night. The TWO FANS carried me to High Kensington, and then this amazing day ends. The next day I tried to get a copy of the seat plan of labatts apollo which I got (after great effort) from HMV (Labatts Apollo has 3468 seats). The next day at 11.15am I flow back to germany. Almost failed to get the flight (unstable underground!?!). Sorry, the pictures I made at concert are not the best but they helps me for memorials ... But, the concert tour guide (where gary gives me an autograph) is quite good. A good decision are the live tracks on the Cars Maxi CD, because they were (and Tracks) my all time favourite live recordings ever. I was playing Machine & Soul and 'Emotion' came on... Then, half way through the song, Mark said "Is he decorating his house and run out of paint ?" I said, "What???!??" and he said "Why's he singing 'I need emulsion' then!" I thought 'Great!' Just ruin my fave song on the album for me then, and I cant stop thinking of "I need emulsion" That reminds me of when I was a kid and had "Down In The Park" but didnt have thje lyrics...I always thought it was "We are not lovers, we are not Roman Tits...' :) Anyone else have any lyrical difficulties??? Hughes) Subject: Gary Numan Digest V1 #217 To: numan@cs.uwp.edu (Gary Numan) Dear Derek and the Digest I've been a 'lurker' your digest for about a month now and I have to say that we're impressed with the overall attitude and presentation of the updates i.e. lots of useful info and not much slagging with the exception of the Matthew/Alex 'fued' which should be stopped forthwith. Call it censorship if you will but it has to stop. This mindless purile bickering is taking over the internet. Take a look at alt.paranet.ufo if you doubt my word... Ok. The real reason for writing. We caught up with Mr. Numan in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England recently and the gig was very enjoyable. Very loud and very bassy. Gary's vocals suffered a bit because either the PA wasn't too hot or the venue (Necastle City Hall) is old and crappy. However, the whole atmosphere was the best I've experienced in ages. Incidentally the Psi symbol on the set/booklets etc probably stems from Gary's interest in the TV show 'Babylon 5' of which Gary has said that he is a fan. It's the PsyCops symbol. Does this say anything about the music? Naaa. But it looks cool... Anyway, earlier on in the day Gary had been in HMV Records signing copies of albums and the usual whatnots and my good friend Kathy Smith asked him to sign a message to 'Dave and Julie, Best wishes with Tranquility Bass'. Gary might remember this because he had some trouble spelling 'Tranquility' (don't we all - is it one 'L' or two...?). After the gig, a couple of friends took us off to the post-gig party in the Springfield hotel, Gateshead. After much encouragement, nagging, shoving and abuse, our party persuaded me to hand Gary a copy of our first CD 'The Infection of Time'. (For those that don't know it's almost a line from 'Warriors'...'This infection in time...') (Err, our record company is 'Thinking Metal Productions' - a line from 'The Fury...I've been surrounded for hours by the sound of thinking metal...' Essentialy, we're simply interested to know if Gary has heard the album and, if so, his reaction to the disc. The music is nothing like Gary's stuff, more Prog Rock/Tangerine Dream/Ultravox, but it has received some good reviews and we've sold enough to cover all our costs despite limited airplay and little reaction from both our local and national music press. Now where have we heard that before? Enough for now and keep up the good work. Best Wishes to all David J. Hughes Julie R. I'm sorry I haven't been exactly on top of things there. It doesn't really matter what the reasons are; the point is that the page is still incomplete. Its purpose is to serve as a reference to the music. It's not a storehouse for news, events or rumors, not a tour schedule, not anything else. I don't have time for it, and other people are doing much better at it anyway. I'm really proud that my page was the first. I'm also really glad that it inspired people to make some really great Numan pages. My page won't be going away (at least for quite some time), but I do have some improvements in mind. I plan to put up some audio samples. Nothing too huge, but still of good quality. Choosing which bits to sample is difficult, and I'd appreciate suggestions. I'll also be adding more links, with better descriptions of what to find on those pages. So if you haven't lately, please give my page a peek (at it's new address), and give me some feedback. I do read all my email. Thanks, Chris ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Apr 96 17:52:00 -0500 From: james.demay@nonamebbs.com (JAMES DEMAY) Subject: Ohhh Matt, I'm Not Worthy!!! To: numan@cs.uwp.edu This is NOT an "I support Matt" note. (somewhere in the deep dark corner of my spare closet), I am trying to find a way to copy, at least the Gary Numan single for everyone, so keep watching for it. I also walked into a local used record shop and what to my surprise do I find- not 1, not 2, but 8, numan singles. I am going to go ahead and sell one of them. Now I'm not a collector or fan-atic so I'm not up on the descriptions of the singles, but this is a "Bombers, Blue-Eyes, O.D. Receiver" double pack. It opens up to a photo of the "Tubeway Army" and a futuristic city. On the back is a list of names: Valerian, Scarlett, and Rael. Although I am the kind of person who can understand a person face to face, and that some fans are poorer than I, I must say that I have no other way to sell it than to the highest bidder. All bids will be considered up to one week after the posting of this letter and will be awarded to the highest bidder. If a tie should somehow happen, I will take the entries and have a run off. This single WILL BE SOLD. I will not offer this and suddenly change my mind, after all I may be poor but I am a Gentleman. Hey be good, and if you can't be good, be careful.
