Jeff Tolva (The Machman) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Jun 1996 06:56:53 -0400 (EDT) From: Erin Tavano Subject: berserker -sigh To: numan@cs.uwp.edu this is ridiculous and badly timed, but i decided at some point yesterday my cash flow was large enough for me to afford the way overpriced import of berserker, at my local newbury comics. unfortunately i can't stand it. anyone want to buy it off me? erin ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Jun 1996 19:43:20 -0700 From: bbmchale@ix.netcom.com (Brian B. McHale ) Subject: Gary Numan Digest V1 #233 To: numan@cs.uwp.edu (Gary Numan) To everyone - There is an awful movie with Judd Nelson and Alyssa Milano called Conflict of Interest that has only one redeeming quality - when the two stars walk into J.N.'s nightclub ( he has A.M. on a leash attached to a collar around her neck) , the song playing is by Gary Numan. I was shocked. On VH1, there is a "Where are they now?" segment that airs occasionally. They said that GN was now an aerobatics pilot in England, leading one to believe that he no longer recorded or played live. They should be properly updated and brought into the 90's. Thanx - Brian ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Jun 1996 11:50:04 EST From: "Kay Teel" Subject: Metal Rhythm/New Anger To: numan@cs.uwp.edu I bought New Anger first, and it had been a few years in between Numan purchases... For some reason I had skipped Berserker, bought The Fury and Strange Charm and wasn't thrilled with either of them (although I love Call Out The Dogs and My Breathing). So, I had no idea what to expect from New Anger. My first impression was how dancy it was. This was the first time I heard a version of My Dying Machine, and I really liked it, but I started to wonder when Numan got into dance music... I like the remix of Devious, too, and for a while it was one of those "gotta play this song NOW" type of songs. I found a vinyl version of Metal Rhythm a few months later and was very surprised at how different it was. And how much better! Now that I could compare the 2, New Anger's patchiness began to show through. I much prefer Metal Rhythm, and was blown away by the rough guitar sound. I got really excited after that, it's what led me back into the Numan fold... And was bitterly disappointed by Outland and Machine + Soul. It's not until Sacrifice that I've been as enthusiastic about a new Numan album as I was about MR/NA. I can't wait for Exile! Favorite song from MR/NA is probably Voix. It's the one I play the most. A little surprising since what first hooked me was the rougher, more powerful songs, but it's the ballad that's really stuck with me. But I like the whole album, not really a weak song in the bunch. Good image, too, and the MR cover is really nice, much better than what they did with NA. --Kay teel@is.nyu.edu "Change Of Priorities Ahead" (--roadsign seen in the UK) ------------------------------ End of Gary Numan Digest ******************************
