To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hi all, I was just in contact with my Gary Numan music supplier, Music Machine, from Maryland (USA) and they tell me that there is a new Gary Numan CD set coming out in the next week or so called "Story so far...". I beleive they said it is either a two or three CD set and judging by the title of the album, I'd say it's another compliation (of what years, I don't know). Has anyone heard of this CD set? Is it in fact another compliation set or is there anything new on it? For that matter, does anyone know the tracks on it yet? Always curious, Jeff Tolva (The Machman) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jun 96 02:52:14 -0600 From: "Joey Lindstrom" Subject: Derek "Sir Gary" Langsford To: "Gary Numan" I'd just like to pass along publicly some congratulations for Derek Langsford, who was the first contestant in my NuMusic contest to achieve a PERFECT SCORE. He correctly identified all 20 songs contained in the two music clips. I told Derek early on that I suspected the only reason he wanted to get a perfect score was so that his rating, as listed on the rating table, would be "You Are Gary Numan", which would enable him to get into Gemma's pants. :-) He has denied this, but when he got the perfect score he inquired as to whether the pants could be shipped FedEx Next Day Delivery. Sorry Derek, but I'm fresh out. :-) (of Gemma's pants, not of pants in general) But seriously folks: there's still time to enter, either just for the fun of it or to challenge Derek for first place (in case of a tie there'll be a third-round run-off). Anyone have any idea which of these two may be >correct? Thanks! > >Janet Newlands > >------------------------------ I have to say I am extraordinarily dissapointed with the GNFC and Numa records. I got my US bank to issue two Pounds Sterling foriegn drafts (with quite a fee attached) to GNFC and Numa records so I could join the GNFC and order the Dream Corrosion video. (It ended up being rather expensive to insure that they were paid Pounds Sterling as opposed to US Dollars). I sent them in at the start of April. The forms said allow 4 weeks, so I anticipated 6-8 since I live in the US. I still have not seen anything. I can't put a stop on the check, and use the web site (which at the time did not yet accept credit card numbers --I wish I had waited). But I have already given the money to the bank. Basically, I am out of about US$80 or so until someone at GNFC processes this. I have not idea how to proceed and can do nothing but wait and hope. I certainly am sick of coming home every night and seeing that there is not yet anything waiting in my mailbox. I have been a long time fan, but in retrospect I wish I had not attempted this. To: numan@cs.uwp.edu In #234 Aaron Hannum Scorbie@aol.com said in reference to his subject line "Damn, that was a lame one!" >I am only commenting on the lack of content in this particular volume. This tends to happen each year as a significant number of subscribers are college students who finish their year, go home, and lose email access for the summer. Dave Datta will have a lot to do as I am sure he will get many bounced Digests because people forgot to unsubscribe before their accounts were closed. A couple of years ago "small" ( I won't call them lame) Digests were commonplace due to the small number of subscribers. We've had it pretty good this past couple of years. And small one's are bound to occur, just like those embarrassing silences in the converstation at parties. I didn't notice any post from you in that one either Aaron :-) The Digest is only as busy as the subscribers make it. Just like everyone else, I can't post something every issue, even though I come darn close (213 posts since 3/24/95). I'm told my order should be shipped by the weekend (ie: by the time you read this) and that the rest of the backlog is being worked on as quickly as possible. /--------------------------------------------------------- / Joey Lindstrom numanoid@netway.ab.ca lindstrj@cadvision.com / http://www.netway.ab.ca/worldwidewebb/ / "I view life as a big, desperate bear loose in the campground. Anyone have any idea which of these two may be >correct? Thanks! > >Janet Newlands When I was in the UK back in early April, I spoke with Tony Webb at length about this. I ordered my videos back in January or so. The very first thing Tony did was apologize. The second thing he did was to offer me a full refund. It seems he has been having great difficulty getting NTSC duplicates made for a reasonable cost in the UK. Going outside the UK would be cheaper but then you have to add in shipping costs, which nullify things. It seems that UK manufacturers charge more for duping NTSC videos than they do for PAL (European) videos. As we parted company, he said he had broken off dealing with one company and was about to sign with another which had offered him a decent deal. That was the last I heard. But I still haven't received my videos. Now, there could be a number of reasons for this, and the first one that comes to mind is the health problems in the family (specifically, Beryl's dad is very ill). Maybe the deal Tony was going to sign never came together. Things must be hectic around there: I and several other GNFC members haven't received our yearbooks yet either. In any case, demand for the NTSC videos (compared to PAL) had been quite low so this understandably has been given a lower priority. I've written to Tony this week requesting an update on the status: when I've got it, I'll pass it on. In the meantime, I'd advise anyone waiting for these videos to sit tight... because they are coming. It's very likely that the reason Janet's credit card hasn't been charged is because the videos still aren't available yet. Nobody's going to cheat you: that's not how you maintain your reputation as the best value-for-money fan club in pop music. If anyone is tired of waiting, you can cancel your order. If you paid by cheque, cash, or money order (as I did), refunds are available. But again: I advise patience. We're one big happy family, after all. :-) /--------------------------------------------------------- / Joey Lindstrom numanoid@netway.ab.ca lindstrj@cadvision.com / http://www.netway.ab.ca/worldwidewebb/ / "I view life as a big, desperate bear loose in the campground. However, at this point, I'd just like to say what a great job was done by all concerned. A pure singles collection (no "dilution" as with "Exhibition" or "Best of 78-83"). Excellent artwork (so nice to see all the single covers). Great liner notes (a fair, interesting and informative narrative plus release dates and chart positions). Excellent sound (my only complaint is that the tape his from the early and "I, Assassin" tracks was not eliminated). A full 76:20 minute disc - good value for the $16.99 ($18.31 with tax) I paid. They even mention all the post-BB studio albums and compliment Gary's return to a darker style. What more could anyone want from them? How about similar treatment for the 1984-95/6 period? I applaud Polygram TV/Beggars Banquet. This release should have happened a long time ago. It's a definitive treatment for Gary's 1978-83 singles career. It just goes to show what a major label can do for an artist. Imagine that level of backing behind "Exile" and Gary's future releases - wow! I hope it happens. "Sacrifice" is like a gothic "Replicas". BTW, I remember you asking about web sites for movies a long time ago. I just discovered this at Lazlo Nibble's site: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo/Linkswamp.html and look under the movie links. Some potential sources for you there.
