In reply to the recent posts about 'Change Your Mind', the bass on this track is definitely a keyboard-I speak as a bass player & keyboard player. I am almost certain that it is a Yamaha DX7 synth, I used to own one and the 'Change Your Mind' bass sound was one of the presets. The video was quite good for it's time. Gary wore his berserka make-up with a white shirt and trousers,a white trilby and blue bow tie. Bill Sharpe was stood inside a circle made of beams of light and appeared to be constructing a plaster bust of Gary with a computer. Meanwhile, Gary moved around outside the circle, apparently trying to get in. Incidently, Gary and Bill appeared on a BBC children's programme at that time to promote the single (I think it was 'Saturday Superstore' but I'm not certain) and they gave the plaster bust used in the video away as a competition prize. I hope this is useful! Brian ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Jun 1996 10:12:21 -0400 From: "Ralph A. Milam, Jr." Subject: CYM Bass Player To: numan@cs.uwp.edu I have a copy of Automatic on vinyl and it does not mention anything about a bass player anywhere. I tend to agree with Shane King that there was not one, but as mentioned before, someone will have to ask Gary about it. I was out of the Numan loop from Dance to Warriors (yes, I lost interest after being disappointed in Telekon) and I don't have a copy of Newman Numan either. I should really work to acquire the videos I am missing. Derek -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Derek H. Was this fan club only? >Does anyone know when this CD will be reissued? That's because it never has existed. It is something that Gary intends to release but probably only when there's a lull in releases, something which doesn't look likely until next year (this year we still have Fury extended mixes, Strange Charm, the cover album, Exile, and the Premier Tour album). Next year things should be quieter with possible albums being: Exile extended, Exile Tour album, maybe the often promised ballad album, maybe a follow up singles collection and even an unplugged album. A lot will depend on whether Gary gets a deal with a label. I would be peaved if in doing so, he was not able to release extended albums as seemed to happen with IRS. I've missed the last three digests so I'd really appreciate it if you could send them to me as soon as possiple as I hate to be out of touch with the Numan scene. The three digests I've missed are 20/6/96,23/6/96 and 27/6/96. Thanking you in advance and I look forward to hearing from you soon. The problem seems to be with the server program that County Internet (or whatever they're called this week - grin!) is running there... it seems to time-out on sending the files if there's any network congestion to speak of. My advice in downloading them is to try doing so when traffic is light. For North American viewers, try between 5-6am Mountain Daylight Time (adjust for your time zone) - that seems to work for me, whereas other times the download usually fails. If this is not an option for you, and/or you've tried this and it still does not work, I do have the complete set of (six) Exile sound clips here (.WAV format only and not the Sacrifice clips). If you like, I can email them to you. Send email to numanoid@netway.ab.ca Please specify: 1) Which format you need (MIME, UUENCODE, BINHEX) (if you're not sure, check your email program's documentation... most modern email programs can handle MIME) 2) Whether or not there is any size restriction at your host (ie: largest size allowed for one email message). If so, *AND* if you're running DOS/Windows at your end, I can break the waves down into a self-extracting archive for you. 3) Which of the files you need (Absolution, An Alien Cure, Dark, Prophecy, Dead Heaven, Angel Wars). Bear in mind that the sound quality isn't great, and that these songs may be changed/remixed by the time they appear on Exile. Beyond that, they're an excellent sneak-preview of what to expect from Exile... and based on these clips, it's gonna improve on Sacrifice by a large margin (if you can believe it). /--------------------------------------------------------- / Joey Lindstrom numanoid@netway.ab.ca lindstrj@cadvision.com / http://www.netway.ab.ca/worldwidewebb/ / "I view life as a big, desperate bear loose in the campground. (bottom right of the lyric sheet). I have tried two times and got a >postcard back once that said that "T-Shirts are not available". I got no >response the second time. I have never had the opportunity to see Gary live >:( and don't have any T-shirts, sweatshirts etc. If anybody can point me in >the right direction, I would be greatful. I like to promote Gary any way >I can (keeps fuel in his plane) and a few simple clothing articles might >>just get some good conversations going. IRS's follow-up on Gary was quite pitiful. Apart from no promotion, the t-shirt offers with Outland and the "My World Storm" US 12" release never were honoured. They never even put out a CD5 of "My World Storm" showing either complete lack of organisation or a really half-assed approach. We did have a Digest t-shirt with the Numa insignia on the front late last year. Are any left Imp? Otherwise you will have to rely on commercial vendors (you'll need more than good luck outside the UK), or join the Official Fan Club and see what they have - they usually sell tour t-shirts. (bottom right of the lyric sheet). I have tried two times and got a >postcard back once that said that "T-Shirts are not available". I got no >response the second time. To the best of my knowledge, IRS never made the Outland shirts. I ordered the shirt right after the album came out. A few weeks later I received a form letter saying that the shirts were out of stock. Considering that the album wasn't a huge seller AND that I sent the offer in ASAP, I always assumed that Gary's difficulties with the company caused them to not make the shirts. Did anybody ever get one of the shirts? Boies" Subject: PDO return with happy ending, Story So Far boxed set To: numan@cs.uwp.edu I returned my "Isolate" CD to PDO and within 3 weeks got back the replacement, so I'm happy about that. I'm not as happy with the "Story So Far.." 3CD set from Receiver Records. I can forgive the typos, the fact that the titles for the "The Sleeproom - Live" and "Time To Die" discs should have been switched, and I can even forgive the redundancy of most of the material. What I have a hard time forgiving is the quality of the 5 live "Isolate Tour" tracks that are the main motivation for buying the set, specifically the mixing. Gary's vocals drop out in certain places. The tape should have had more post-production work, possibly with some vocal overdubs, before being released. I don't blame Gary for this, but I think Receiver could have done a better job with this package. Tony R. Boies ------------------------------ End of Gary Numan Digest ******************************
