Welcome back, and also welcome to our new susbcribers of the past few months. I am hoping that with Gary's new album "Exile" completed and with luck soon to see stores and reissues of "The Fury" and "Strange Charm" that this autumn will be a great one for all Numan fans. August's questions to Gary will be a little late due to my having a very busy schedule this last week. I hope to get them to him by the end of this week. I hope his computer woes (see later) are fixed by then. MONTHLY TOPIC ------------- Almost forgot. So only to demonstrate that I am still alive here some of my mind: 1.) Digest Member List (To Derek ...) Please could you print once again the actual digest member list in one of the next digests?! You know - the list where you grouped all members accourding to the location (country). The last list was shown in digest no. 177 (23.11.95). Thanks 2.) Gary4s Internet-Addresses to be published My idea is the following: Some numanoids of each country (UK,US,...,Ger,...) should look out of those music magazine which are most related to the kind of gary4s music. For example magazine who have articles from bands like depeche mode, sisters of mercy, kraftwerk, anne clark, alien sex fiend,... = music styles like: wave, dark wave, electro pop, industrial, new romantics, electro wave,gothic,avantgarde,... in a nutshell, we should take short advertisments into these magazine (e.g. into the contact area), which contain lines like this: -------------------------------------------------- GARY NUMAN Fans and NewBies look at this: Join N U M A N at his great www sites: http://www.nuzone.org.uk and http://www.numan.co.uk -------------------------------------------------- or similar ... Here in germany I started with such promotion and I think this could interest some potential numan fans AND fans who know Gary Numan but never realised that he IS STILL ALIVE and accessable by this media!!! (hope you I the UK and US will now be animated ...) 3.) sold copies of the PREMIER HITS Does anyone in the UK has information how often the Premier Hits have been sold?!? It4s only for interest to compare this for example with the number for the OUTLAND (gary spoke from about 40.000). 4.) Gary at Silverstone in a formula 1 car Lately I got my 7 cars version CD (SPV 055-28113) in my hands. Inside there is a competition (only for UK residers :-(. What I ever been interested in was, who won the 1st price to fly and the 2nd drive with gary around the silverstone track!?! Does anyone has information about that? Another question is, why is this produced by SPV Germany? And not also delivered in Germany? 5.) Does anyone has looked at the column "15 years ago" in the NME (or Melody Maker) of ht 24.08.96? YES, there was shown Gary at rank 4 with "She4s got claws" :-) All the best to you - numanoids Mark(us Dietrich) P.S: I am trying to build the first numan www site in germany, but at the moment I have no server to run at ... -- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Sep 1996 09:09:37 +0100 From: "S.B.Davenport" Subject: Another Newbie To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hi, As the introductory blurb requested I'm intorducing myself to you all. The first memory of any Numan song I have is watching the video for Warriors on Top of the Pops (I live in the UK) but my first actual album was White Noise (Live) and I've been a fan ever since. Favourite tracks include Warriors, From Russia Infected, 1930's Rust and the sample-laden ambient-ish tracks that keep cropping up on his b-sides (Survival sounds equally as good if you play it at 33 rpm instead of 45). Favourite albums: Warriors and Outland. Actually I'm no longer the obsessive Numan fan I once was and at the moment I'm more into more mellow stuff, straight ambient, ambient dance, 'new electronica' and world music (especially stuff rooted in the pacific rim/indian ocean/central asia sort of region). As such I don't really have any bands I'm really into at the moment I just buy whatever I blunder into or gets an interesting review. And finally: a request and a question. The Request: Could anyone give me a review of the recent-ish album Human. How does it compare with the instrumental stuff that has littered his b-sides for a while (thinking about it its been 10 years or so)? The Question: Up until about 92 I collected Numan's non-album b-sides and I've noticed that the second (Numan-penned) track from the b-side of Love Needs No Disguise (12"), Face To Face, is identical to the second b-side from the 12" of Sister Surprise but now renamed Letters. (On UK releases, if not anywhere else). Does anyone know why? Since I've just thought of it, here's a second question: WHY did he record with Radio Heart? To me it stands out as an embarassing blot on his recording career. And afterwards go back to record another song with the same people (Like A Refugee)!! fare well, Bruce ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Sep 1996 00:59:47 -0400 From: ZIPPY2DAY@aol.com Subject: Gary Newman To: numan@cs.uwp.edu WOW! The new album is sitting beside me on 12 shiny new CD-R discs waiting for my artwork to be slid into them and be sent off to various record companys. I had taken apart my faithful but troublesome Quadra computer system in readiness for bolting some bits of it onto the new computer but it STILL isn't here. I've now put the Quadra back together again so I can at least put this update on-line and let you know what's going on. I'm not happy. My monthly NuWorld news change over is late, my UK phonelines are late, the CD's to record company schedule is slipping and all because some lying toe rag in a computer mail order company office hasn't got the courage to admit that they didn't send the thing when they said they would. It's now supposed to arrive later today. If it does then normal service will resume sometime tomorrow. I have news on the 'Fury' and 'Strange Charm' CD releases amongst other things ------ So Gary has the new album all complete. And news about rereleases is due, hopefully good. However, due to impending Christmas baby, I do have my Numan collection for sale. I've got most on CD or duplicates, so don't worry yourselves about leaving me Numanless. My collection comprises of pretty much all standard releases (7 & 12inch, LP,CD,MC, videos etc.). I have various coloured vinyl european versions of Telekon with or without poster or free single. A copy of Photograph which will kill me to lose. But nevertheless...... I have many signed 12 inches and a few signed LPs. I also have(had) an extensive collection of picture discs. What I don't have is the Ghanian issue of Machine & Soul (ext). But you can't have everything. I don't have two copies of Newman Numan either so no joy there. But the other two early originals I will sell.(VHS). I think the best thing to do is to flog it by auction on a monthly basis or until the reserve price I have roughly set on the stuff is reached. I haven't bothered to put in the whole list because the canadian cabbie does that sort of thing better. . But if you want to know the reserve prices give me a mail or better still look in record collector and +/- 20% should see you there. Many thanks Alexander Deacon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Sep 1996 14:59:31 -0400 From: "Insomnia Rising" Subject: Patrick O'Hearn news (for HUMAN fans) To: I've mentioned Patrick O'Hearn before, but thought I'd let folks know that he has his own label now with 2 releases since his days with Private Music. His stuff should be well received by fans of Gary's _Human_ album as they share a cinematic, electronic instrumental approach (among other things, he scored the soundtrack for the films _White Sands_ and _Silent Tongue_).
