I Disconnect from You (live) 'U' Got the Look (live) Berserker The God Film We Are Glass (live) Poison Creatures Cars (live) Call out the Dogs (live) God Only Knows We Take Mystery (to bed) My Shadow In Vain Love Isolation Generator Down in the Park (live) (misspelled as Down in the Dark!) Bizarre and redundant effort. I would have expected We Take Mystery and My Shadow In Vain to be live but it appears they are not listed as such. He doesn't want to break the shrinkwrap on the copies he has so I won't ask him to check. The only thing one might buy it for is the live U Got the Look. Are Rialto part of Receiver? This is a subset of what Receiver licensed from Numa. Very odd indeed. Derek -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Derek H. I pass it on to my stepson who has been an avid GARY NUMAN FAN for the past eighteen years! I myself am a HELEN SHAPIRO (who?) FAN, having followed her career here in the UK for over 35 years. I still collect mainly contemporary music (including GARY, STING, ERASURE, PET SHOP BOYS, having been unable to give up the music bug since my early teens! The FAQ can be found on Joey Lindstrom's World Wide Webb homepage. I'll also be re-posting it to the digest either next week or the week after, since there are a lot of newcomers. Re: What the hell's the matter with VH-1. My roommate is a librarian at the New York Public Library, Performing Arts branch. MTV, VH-1, Rolling Stone, etc. etc. frequently call up his branch to fact-check. Their 'researchers' are not professionals. They're young (often just out of high school) and have usually never heard of the artists they're supposed to research. (Suffice to say someone from Rolling Stone thought the singer Cat Stevens was someone's cat. I kid you not.) The whole way they go about it is a shambles. They re-use the same artists (not to mention the same videos) every time they do one of these "whatever happened to" shows and yet they always call up again to ask the same questions. They are usually given correct information by the library, too. (Especially if they talk to my roomie, who's a longtime 80s music fan.) But these are not the brightest or most organized people in the world and I think they scribble down a couple of words and hand them to the person who types up the teleprompter for the VH-1 host, who puts whatever they want. In short: they're clueless. --Kay teel@is.nyu.edu ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Sep 1996 00:27:59 -0400 From: JARUTLAND@aol.com Subject: Response to CD for sale To: numan@cs.uwp.edu In the last digest, Derek offered Asylum 2 for sale. My heart bleeds that this would have to be done. As one of the proud (and few?) owners of all 3 Asylum CD sets, I can appreciate this CD set. I wanted to verify for all interested that the price requested is absolutely fair for the CDs. I grabbed mine for $66 (a bargain). I found Asylum 1 for $33 because the dealer marked it as a 2-CD domestic (US) set and not the 4-CD Japanese import that it is. One note not marked on Derek's is if the lyric sheet is in Japanese or English. When I bought #2, it was with the Japanese lyrics only, but I returned it several hours later because disk #3 (I, Assassin + 7 songs) was missing. I received a replacement in 3 days but with English and Japanese lyrics. (Good thing, my Japanese is horrible!) Anyway, break open your piggy banks. This is a opportunity to take full advantage of. Derek's needs must be great to let this one go. :-( Andy Rutland "We're dreams in cold storage, we could dance the night away" ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Sep 1996 17:32:24 +0100 From: austinbaggett@ex-or.co.uk (Austin Baggett) Subject: Sound Quality - Gary's response To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Digesters, It was interesting to hear Gary's response to the Sound Quality allegations in the last Digest. As has been discussed in the past, the sound quality of his output since Outland has been notably...., well um... terrible. A very "tinney, muddy, lack-of-bottom-end" sort of sound. Gary says that the recordings leave his studio in tip-top condition and that problems with sound quality must be due to others further along the CD manufacturing process. If this is indeed the case, is it not rather coincidental that my 1995 released Babylon 1 CD (recorded in 1984 at Rock City) sounds fantastic. This begs the question what does the Sacrifice material sound like on the Babylon CDs? If it is the CD manufacturer at fault then the Sacrifice material must sound fantastic too. Can anyone comment? If it is the manufacturers, why doesn't he give them a big kick up the arse and get them to sort it out. It seems to me that the Sound Quality issue is crucial. I recall a review of the Dream Corrosion CD in one of the UK monthlies - either VOX, Select or Q, can't remember which one. Anyway as I recall the review went along the lines of "the recording of this concert sounds like a bootleg". Surely there is enough prejudice at Radio 1 and in the UK's music press without "bootleg" sound quality making things even worse. Gary recently reported that plans are underway to build a proper, purpose built, recording studio. Lets hope this will solve the problem. Finally - most important this - a message to the Numan fundamentalists. PLEASE do not get unduly sniffy about these sound quality criticisms. I know how sensitive you lot are!.
