THE CLIP IS VERY COOL INDEED ... (now I know where the strange couple is taken from that I have seen at one of the first prototyp for the PREMIER hits CD sleeve!) note also that the femal programm presenter has mentioned that someone from the UK (called I think "graham ???") has sent a letter. I don't know if this was someone of us? It is not clear if this person voted for Carling. The only thing she said, was that this person is so sorry because there is no such TV program like Hotzpotz in the UK. I do not definitly know if you brits are able to see RTL2, but obviously your postcards are wellcome :-) (is the carling actual still present in the UK's TV channels ?) 2.) microprose Because I lately bought the formula one grandprix 2 game from MicroProse I remembered that one time there was a story that gary may write music for a/some game(s) perhaps in the future. I think this would be a great idea and I think on games the kind of dark, futuristic, science fiction and aliens like. So one day we could read in the handbook: soundeffects and music - gary numan By, m a r k u s -- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Sep 1996 20:05:04 -0700 (PDT) From: damrat@earthlink.net (Michael & BethAnn Damrath) Subject: Gary Numan Digest V1 #266 To: numan@cs.uwp.edu (Gary Numan) In response to the note from Matthew Tamea: >Hmmmmm....a lot more complimentary than Money For Nothing by (Really) >Dire Straits in which Mark Knopfler warbles throatily... I would find that hard to believe. Try George Michael. Errrr...yes! I'm just going on what I was told he had said on some chat show once. Don't reckon it's about George. I mean, the song is about the music business in general, and that verse about Gary Numan. Maybe some other bit is about George. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Oct 1996 14:48:10 GMT From: garage_sale@juno.com Subject: Gary Numan Digest V1 #266 To: numan@cs.uwp.edu > >Hmmmmm....a lot more complimentary than Money For Nothing by (Really) > >Dire Straits in which Mark Knopfler warbles throatily: > >"See the little faggot with the earing and the make-up >Yeah bother, that's his own hair >That little faggot got his own jet airplane >That little faggot he's a millionaire" > > >Thanks Mr Knopfler!! :) > >Matthew. > Excuse me if this was already covered, the lyrics for Money for Nothing are a conversation that Knopfler overheard between two workers at an appliance store. To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Well, As much as I hate to disagree with Matt, I always thought those lines were about Boy George. I seriously doubt that they were about Gary, because by 1984, Gary was not ever on MTV - so there would be no reason to include him in a song parodying it, Gary had a PROP plane, not a JET plane, and I doubt that by 1984 Gary was still a millionaire - but I may be wrong on this last bit :-) Wayne- Thank you for the correction, I knew it was two something, but as you may know (being a fellow fan) those weeks before a Numan release can seem to drag on for months ;-) (I mean, it's been YEARS since Gary's last release now, hasn't it ? Smith. It has also been noted in this digest that Gary provided some music for "Ski School." Now, I have found a listing with the ASCAP for "In the Heat of Passion" with a Michael G. Smith. The URL is: http://www.ascap.com:80/ace/title/detail.cgi?tcode=398037855 Now I will be on a quest to find more information about this. The ASCAP web info lists it as "cues" for the film for "Ski School," "In the Heat of Passion" and for "The Unborn." Also, credit is given for "main and closing theme" for "The Unborn." Apparently, Michael R. Smith ("The Unborn") and Michael G. Smith ("In the Heat of Passion") are not the same person... I thought it was a misprint. Anybody already know anything about this? I'll include a question to Gary... -- Troy L. Walters tlwalter@accs.net http://www.accs.net/users/tlwalter -- Beware of the IDGAF Syndrome... He is our private little artist. In some aspects I wish he could remain this way. However, there is a big part of me that wishes him the best and more importantly wishes he receives the fame and recognition he deserves. I was also at the Perkins Palace show in 1982 and it was the best show he has ever done (in my opinion). I have seen him several times, from 1980 TeleTour, 1982 I Assasin Tour, 1984 Warriors tour (several shows), and lastly 1987 The Exhibition Tour (a few shows). And if I did not get married and settle down I would have seen him ever since then (but thats another story). I'd like to plan to see his Exile tour if possible next year. Maybe a few of us yanks could organize such a thing? Now, I happen to love Yes but check >the "White Car" lyrics again: "Take all your dreams/And you throw them >away". Doesn't sound too complimentary to me. Really. From this side of the Atlantic having even the minutest thing to do with with Yes is quite possibly one of the least complimentary things that could ever be said about anyone, let alone Numan. As for Dire Straits, what are decent Numan fans listening to this crap for anyway? I don't think any of us should be worrying about any of this middle of the road shit. Or has someone detected an Anti-Numan message running backwards on the last Rush album? I thought so. Take me to the hospital cabbie.
