Gary Numan Digest Sun, 17 Nov 96 Volume 1 : Issue 280 Today's Topics: ADMINISTRIVIA Beserker Videos german cover of DITP More Numan TV trivia Pino Palladino ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Nov 1996 22:07:00 -0800 From: dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu (Derek Langsford) Subject: ADMINISTRIVIA To: numan@cs.uwp.edu You may have noticed I have been scarce of late on the Digest. I am afraid that will continue for a while longer as I try to meet a Dec. 2 deadline for my long overdue Ph.D. (stop smirking Rob :-) I did not specify a topic for November due to lack of time. In any case, the response to this idea has been falling off with each passing month. So, I am giving you an extra month to offer your opinion on 'Machine and Soul'. Maybe I need to spice up the topics a bit. After regularly hitting over 40K per issue we semed to have dropped to around 10-20K. Remember, the content is dependent on everyone who subscribes not just me or the the other regular posters. It could also be the scarcity of news. While the plethora of redundant budget releases in the UK have barely deserved mention, beyond telling fans to avoid them, I hope the upcoming issue of 'The Fury' extended mixes will create some excitement. So in the meantime, post if you have anything to contribute. The Digest is always here for any snippet of trivia, despite Joey's incredibly tenuous linkage of Numan to STtNG :-) Regards, Derek __________________________________________________________________________ Derek Langsford "Numanews" dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu The Gary Numan Digest SDSU Dept of Biology email numan-request@cs.uwp.edu San Diego, CA for information or to subscribe __________________________________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Nov 1996 19:23:01 +-100 From: Uffe & Marta Silverup Subject: To: "'Numan'" Hi everybody. I only know that the front cover of that release > has a head-shot of Gary on it and I believe it was ONLY released from the UK > Fan Club several years ago. > > Can anyone help me sort this out? > I'm sure somone more knowledgeable than I will fill in the details but I'm fairly sure that I have seen both releases on general sale in record shops in the UK. As I recollect the one with the detailed photo of Gary's nostrils came out first. I always thought that was a *really* poor (pore?) choice for the cover. The other one (with full- length picture) came out later, better cover but with a much shorter track listing on it. The first (I think) had pretty much the full compliment of songs from the album. As for the Japan only release - ???? No idea, sorry. Question: Is the video any good? This was the first Numan album I ever bought. Still one of my favourites. The band is called 'Girls under Glass'!!! Am I absolutely wrong or is this a very new information!?! They mentioned Gary as songwriter. But I sent them an email in order to ask for a link to Gary's Homepage! Around that area I found another references to Gary of some unknown bands -> check it The homepage of 'Girls under Glass' is http://www.netville.de/music/bands/gug/gugditp.html By for now, Markus -- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Nov 1996 08:22:49 -0600 From: Scott Lucado Subject: More Numan TV trivia To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Fellow Numanoids: After that VERY tenuous Numan/Star Trek connection, I've got a more direct (but probably just as meaningless) link: On one episode of the sitcom "Frasier," Frasier attends the funeral of a friend of his, a fellow psychiatrist--whose name, it turns out, is "Gary Newman." (I'm guessing on the spelling, as the name is never shown--he's referred to as "Dr. Newman" and "Gary" separately.) Scott ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Nov 1996 03:37:56 -0800 From: real-one@ix.netcom.com (John Marques Carramao) Subject: Pino Palladino To: numan@cs.uwp.edu To Everyone; The great bass guitarist Pino Palladino who worked with Gary Numan on the I, Assassin album and really helped make songs like Music For Chameleons and We Take Mystery To Bed classic jams, has turned up of all places on Steve Hackett's latest CD titled 'Genesis Revisited'. Pino pointed to his work on the I, Assassin album as among his finest efforts as a musician. I found out about the I, Assassin tour just days before I was scheduled to report for a tour of my own, active duty in the Air Force, and missed seing that tour, which featured Pino's bass playing, by only a couple of days. I did eventually get to see Pino Palladino a couple of years ago when he played bass on Pete Townsend's tour, think it was for Psycho Derelict. Anyways he's a great bass player, so, if you liked those fretless bass riffs from I, Assassin you'll likely want to get 'Genesis Revisited' by Steve Hackett, Pino's on there along with the other great bassist of our day, Tony Levin, so check it out, it's one of the best things I've heard recently. Take care everyone.
