Dear St. Clause, i can't wait no more for EXILE. Please do everything that EXILE comes out before march'97 under a great record company. Gary must be more famous and that's the only way . I want to say all my thanks to Derek H. Langsford for the possibilitys he give us. your's Ingo Weinard ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Dec 1996 12:13:29 -0800 From: dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu (Derek Langsford) Subject: Fury CD noise update To: numan@cs.uwp.edu The buzz reported by Aaron and myself on the right channel is barely noticable when the album is played through speakers at normal volumes and is not noticeable if you are in a different room. So please don't let our comments put you off getting the CD. The main differences from the original issue are the outros to "The Pleasure Skin" and "God Only Knows". The songs are stretched but not as much as on Gary's other extended albums (only 10 mins is added to the original) I will endavour to find out from Gary if the buzzing problem is on the master tapes or whether it is an artifact of the transfer to CD. I feel I am going to have to be gentle with the subject as I have harped on about sound quality several times before. Since >there is a lot of reissued stuff in Gary's catalog, I was wondering if >anyone could tell me if these particular discs are original stuff or >just reissues? "Isolate" came out in 1992 as the first release on the Numa label after the IRS debacle. It contains selections from his previous Numa albums (Berserker, The Fury, and Strange Charm) plus "Emotion" and "Time to Die". The CD contains the extended mixes if such tracks existed. If you have the 'Berserker' CD, the new 'The Fury' CD, the 'Strange Charm' CD, the 'Machine and Soul' Extended CD, and the 'Here I Am' compilation, you have all the tracks. "Ghost" is the live double album from the Exhibition tour in 1987. It was issued on CD for the first, and so far only, time in 1993. I find CDNow's prices to be high. I prefer Pastel Blue in the UK (go to http://www.demon.co.uk/pastel). I just got "The Fury" and OMD's latest album "Universal" (both UK-only releases) delivered to my door in California for just over $42 in total. I could not beat that buying locally or on-line from US seller. They have an extensive list of Numan material. You may find a lot you have missed. It came out when Numan relaunched Numa records (circa 1992??) nothing special there. Ghost is a live album taken from 1986 ish (whenever it was that Cars - E-reg mix came out). I already had this on bootleg, but the sound on the CD is much better. I like it, but its not the best Numan live album I've got. Also, Derek wrote: > > I now have this much sought after CD in my collection. Thanks Uffe. > > Seems that Sweden was the only place where the CD got out before > withdrawal. Did it make it to stores elsewhere too? It made it briefly into stores in the UK and then disappeared, I saw it for sale in a bargain bin in HMV a couple of years later for only 2 pounds (vinyl only). I'm not sure if it was worth it at that cost either. > I can see why Gary objected to this album's release. Unfortunately, Receiver did not put 'Radio Heart' or 'All > Across the Nation' on any of their compilations, let alone the extended > versions. the only other bits to be scrounged out of this era are the Numan penned b-side tracks which are okay. Mistasax 2 though was only ever available on the 12-inch of Radio Heart with the blue (as opposed to black) sleeve, which makes it a bit difficult to get hold of. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Dec 1996 07:13:51 -0600 From: machman@interaccess.com (Jeff Tolva) Subject: Ghost Of A White Face Clown To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hello all! Has anyone heard from NEC (the folkes that made the Numan tribute tape called "Ghost Of A White Face Clown")? The last I heard in the Digest, NEC had moved addresses and had not come through on delivering the tribute tape to some members who wanted it. I think someone mentioned getting their check or money order back as well. I have an orginal copy of this tribute tape (I ordered mine quite early on). I'm fairly certain that it never came out on anything other than cassette tape. It's a shame as the color cover art is a pretty cool looking "interpretive" version of the front cover to Berserker. I still play my tape often as I enjoy covers of Gary's tunes by other bands. All these Seattle-based bands do a good job of covering Gary's tunes IMHO. The tape is recorded and mixed well to give it a nice coherant flavor. If NEC is "Out Of Business" or cannot come through to make more of their Numan tribute tapes, I might be able to run a few off for Digest members at cost. Any interest? Gary Numan is not popular in Japan recently. It's very sad for me. > And don't worry, you have the only edition that has ever existed. I had a postcard advertising their new single which had 'Im An Agent' on it. I asked the singer (cant remember her name) if Im An Agent was their song and she said 'No its a Gary Numan song', at which I pointed to my T-shirt and heard her whoop with delight! Kenickie - cool cool cool cool girl punk-pop band...cool cool cool ! They are my favourite band of last week, so go and get the single (out on Dec 30th). It'll be better than Shampoo anyway! Incidentally I was talking to their producer (gee how I get around) who was staying at my bass player's house, who said they'd recorded a Gary Numan song for the tribute album (I presume it was IAA) but he said that it looked unlikely that the tribute album would happen which is why Kenickie have put it out as a B side, so I wouldnt hold your breath for the album.... Does anyone know what happened to Matthew Holbrook's website called NuZone? After getting use to his almost daily updates to his webite, he seems to have "dropped off" since October 23rd completely. I tried to e-mail directly, but he must have a different address than the deadliner address which I last had for him. Any news on Matthew? Maybe I missed something :-) The Machman ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Dec 1996 12:24:19 GMT0BST From: "E.Stein" Subject: Photograph l.p. bidding To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Just to let you all know that the current highest bid for my mint/excellent copy of the photograph l.p. is $151.00 from Micromuzak@aol.com. In case you missed my last post, "photogragh" is a withdrawn Numan l.p. from 1981 and is reknowned as one of the rarest Numan items (I have personally seen a copy on sale for stlg90). Therefore, please inform me soon if you wish to bid a higher amount. Erik. P.S. Could it be that Gary >momentarily forgot the name of his newly-created record company whilst >frenziedly tapping away on his Mac? Surely not! > >Anyone know? Considering how frequent the flaws are in Numa releases, this is not unexpected. The "Radial Pair" CD was the first CD on this new Fan Club label. Perhaps it was so new that the name had not been set in Gary's mind. I assume it is just a typo as a rsult of absent mindedness. Anyone notice that the reissue of "The Fury" has GARY NUMAN FURY on the CD itself? Yet another example of those little details that frequently escapes Numa. >Talking of Radial Pair, Mission has to be the cleverest piece of music he's >ever written. I first heard it at the Marque gig on the Dream Corrosion >tour - it was so good it left me grinning inanely for hours. There's another track on the RP CD I like better. I think it is "Red Sky". I like the whole EP - not only for the decent muisc but the fact that it shows Gary halfway between M&S and "Sacrifice" in style as well as composition. The link fell off my previous e-mail and never made it into the digest. Now I can reveal all - although it now appears even more tenuous than ever. Get ready....he was accompanied by "notable session geezer" Pino Pallindino. Half of my jibe at the digesters over the Atlantic also went astray. Maybe no bad thing.
