I was reading the Yes Magazine (free with the People newspaper) which had an article entitled 101 things that link the most unlikely people.....and in there at no 43 was 'Gary Numan and Ted Rogers (for those not in the UK a rather outdated comedian) used to work for W H Smith'. Boring I know but at least it boosts the size of the digest. Bye for now. To: numan@cs.uwp.edu (Gary Numan) Digesters, I CANNOT BELIEVE the Numan camp's recent responses to the issue of sound quality problems. For such a crucial issue, they seem to have an astonishing lack of interest and logical argument. In Newsletter 51, Beryl seems to puts the "alleged" problems down to a faulty batch of CDs, since most of the complaints are from the US. I put the higher number of complaints from the US down to the fact that the British are renowned for not complaining. HOW ON EARTH can they say that all the CDs they've listened to sound OK? I cannot believe that if anyone sat down with a pile of Machine & Soul and Sacrifice CDs, with the sole purpose of investigating alleged sound quality problems, that they could conclude that everything is fine. There are 3 possible explanations: a) the whole Numan family suffer from a genetic disorder and are completely deaf, b) they have an Amstrad Hi-Fi, or c) they secretly recognise that there is a problem but are reluctant to admit it. I reckon it must be the latter. Secondly, in the digest before last, we have Gary's response to Derek's personal question on the *Fury fuzz*. (I must admit I haven't yet bought the Fury rerelease so can't comment on how important the fuzz issue is). Regardless, Gary's response is UNBELIEVABLE. How can he be so cavalier about it all? Didn't he listen to the tapes after they came back from baking? And then he goes on to smuggly claim that at least this puts his studio in the clear!! Absolute BOLLOCKS. I have written to Beryl on this subject, offering no personal explanation on the cause, but merely pointing out that I thought the sound quality of CDs since Outland has been muffled, cluttered and tinny, and that other contemporary CDs, as well as Gary's pre-1991 output, sound fuller, clearer and sharper. These problems are absolutely essential to overcome. Since Gary himself says he's not much of a musician (but yes, I have heard him play well on the live albums I have), is it really him performing this song? If it is, let me say that he underrates himself (a Brit understating? No!). If not, who is it? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Jan 1997 19:02:54 GMT From: austinbaggett@ex-or.co.uk (Austin) Subject: Kenickie - Who's this Webb bloke? To: numan@cs.uwp.edu (Gary Numan) Some trivia: Went to buy the "Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah" Kenickie CD on Saturday. They credit the B side I'm an Agent to "Webb" for some reason. Are they trying to cover up the fact that they are covering a Numan song? However, Lauren (the good looking one with the legs), in last weeks Melody Maker said that her favorite bands were (interesting she didn't say are) Gary Numan and the Sparks. So there you go. Austin ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jan 1997 15:13:46 -0800 From: dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu (Derek Langsford) Subject: News from NuWORLD (Live album moved forward) To: numan@cs.uwp.edu For those without WWW access: LIVE ALBUM COMING SOON (News date: Jan 9) As you are all aware we are trying hard to get a record deal for the new 'Exile' album which has meant delaying the release of not only that album but also the live album from the '96 UK tour. This was due to the fact that 4 songs from 'Exile' were performed on that tour and we didn't want to spoil the release of the 'Exile' album by making nearly half of it available beforehand on the live album. However, this situation can't go on forever and so the latest plan is to mix the live album and release it soon, hopefully before March. By way of compensation, Gary, as soon as the live album is finished, will go back in to the studio to write more songs for 'Exile' with the aim of making it a 13 song album at least. This will make the ratio of new songs from 'Exile' released beforehand on the live album less of a worry. Although this doesn't help us to get 'Exile' out to you any sooner it does at least give you a new album that isn't just another compilation and one that will serve as a taster of the new songs to come. It also means that 'Exile', when it is released, will be even better than it is already. OFFICE COMPUTER DOWN (News date: Jan 9) Big apologies for this bit of news actually as it's about one month late. The office computer, to which all e-mails from this site are sent, has been pretty much down for several weeks. It was put back into service yesterday and we are now picking up messages from January 1st onwards. However, we seem to have a large hole that covers most of November and December. If you have sent anything important in to us during that time and are waiting for a response, please could you send in your message again. Our apologies once again for this inconvenience. YET ANOTHER NEW CAT! (News date: Jan 9) We have yet another new cat. This time it's a stripey tabby male kitten that we've called 'Moomin'. 'Moomin' wasn't rescued as such but he was very much in need of a good home. Derek -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Derek H.
