(Cleopatra) X-Status: INFORMATION SOCIETY: "Are Friends Electric?" (Cleopatra) At last! I just received promo copies of the new Information Society release, "Are Friends Electric?" (Cleopatra) and friends, it is BRILLIANT. The single has three tracks: 1: Are Friends Electric: (Edit) 2: Seek 300 3: Are Friends Electric? (Album Cut) I've listened to the demo version and live performances of this song for ages now - the first thing that impressed me about the new one is the clarity of Kurt's vocals. They are no longer buried in the music, the sound quality is excellent and the vocal delivery is classic KURT: crisp, perfectly-enunciated, and exact. "Are Friends Electric" has to be a difficult song to perform, the syllables tumble out in complex, alliterative sequences. Kurt's delivery is tight, precise, and right on the mark, you FEEL the alienation expressed in the lyrics. I finally understand this song. If this is tribute to his old idol, Gary Numan, Kurt has done him proud. Seek 300 is InSoc techno at its finest: the compelling rhythm, the driving beats, and the exotic samples. It is my understanding that the promo copies of this CD are going to the clubs immediately and it will be available for radio at the time of the commercial release. Get out to a club: ASK FOR IT! Congratulations to Kurt, This is what I've been waiting for! It's wonderful to have you back, I'm so happy for you! Unfortunately they were unable to find a publisher. It would have been very expensive to print and at the time the potential market was pretty small so it's not really surprising. Hopefully lot's of Pete's previously unseen photos will make it into Gary's biography. Depends how serious Virgin (or whoever) are about making an authoritative work rather than just a cheap money spinner. What do people think? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Jan 97 10:34:00 PST From: Bridges Glen Subject: Dramatis To: Gary Numan Can anyone fill me in on Dramatis. I have For Future Reference at home , which I quite liked. Is it available on CD ( a pipe dream , I know)? Do the band still back Gary on tour and albums? Was the album much of a success? Was Love Needs No Disguise really their tune? (The style seems very Numan , and contrasts with the rest of the album). I had no idea that it wasn't Gary on the piano version of Down in the Park , and I am quite deflated now. Finally , what is happening with 'Kinsmen' ( I think that was the name of the film) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Jan 1997 13:54:48 -0600 (CST) From: Chris Schumann Subject: Gary Numan (fwd) To: numan@cs.uwp.edu I got this message today, and I thought you kind folks could answer this man's question. He asked that I not send his e-mail address, so please reply to me, and I'll forward all pertinent messages to him unedited. Thanks, Chris ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Hi, I hope you don't mind me writing to you, but I used to play bass guitar for Gary Numan a few years back and I thought that you might be able to help me. The first album that I was involved in was "Berserker" and after that I didn't get to find out what they were called, as I would just be involved in the early stages of the recording process and not all the stuff that I played was used. If you know if I'm credited on any other albums, I would be most grateful for the information. The last time that I worked for Gary was around May 1987, as far as I can remember! Thanks in advance, Martin Elliott ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Jan 1997 23:06:50 -0800 (PST) From: Lisa Mesplay Subject: Ghost of a White-Faced Clown To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Joey, I'm glad you got six copies. I assume you paid for six...? I paid for two and got *one*. Mike seems to have disappeared into the aether and I'm tempted to drive over to Issaquah and ask whassup with this. I have clearly been ripped off, which I don't appreciate in the least. To anybody who has their panties in a bunch about not being able to get hold of one of these tapes, I say you're not missing as much as you might think. A couple of renditions are very creative and are clearly lovingly done, and I like a couple of others just because I support my local (Seattle) electro-industrial scene. But if you don't like e-i music in general, you might be disappointed and wonder what all the fuss is about. Caveat emptor, I guess. -- Lisa in Seattle ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Jan 1997 19:28:30 -0800 From: Martin Pengelly Subject: Hello To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Dear All, Have just joined the mailing list and was told by my first message that I had to introduce myself. Well........ I'm Martin Pengelly and live in Landrake, Cornwall, England. Favourite bands include Front 242, Frontline Assembly, Noise Unit, Ozric Tentacles, Depeche Mode and Ultravox. Have been listening to Gary's Music since 1984. Was and still am a huge Ultravox fan, and after discovering that Billy Currie the keyboard player toured on the Pleasure Principle tour in '79... I bought the album and well, that is where it all started!! Don't know what else to say - have flown the Harvard though!! Yours sincerely, Martin ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Jan 1997 17:51:26 -0500 (EST) From: "Michael R. This is a 2 album box set with lots of cool photos. The interesting point of this (in my opinion) is that it has never been opened and still has the factory shrink wrap on it. I offered once before with no takers so I thought I would give it another shot. Any interested parties please e-mail me.
