I am sorry to say that my time has really been limited lately and I have had to remove my name from all of the lists I was on. Senior year in college, last semester, and life in general have been keeping me up in arms lately! thanks for a fun couple of months--it's a great digest and I have learned more about Gary from this digest than I had since I was 12!! Good luck! Cheers--Ruthi ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Feb 1997 17:56:42 -0800 From: "Rudolph Ronay" Subject: Gary Numan Digest V1 #303 To: "Gary Numan" Hi all: I have been a part of this Digest for over a year, and like to thank all who have helped further my collection (the Skin Mechanic is playing in the background) I am not a completetist (however that is spelled) I would like to get to the rub, GARY is in touch with the reality of THIS EXISTENCE. oh well---Rudy ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Feb 97 07:15:16 -0800 From: ROBERT_DAVIS@hp-sandiego-om2.om.hp.com Subject: Illustrated Man To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Item Subject: cc:Mail Text Hello all-- Thought I'd share my recollections regarding Illustrated Man, since I attended this little-publicized show at the Palace in Hollywood during the summer of 1984. Being a big Numan and Japan fan, I figured I couldn't lose by attending this gig. I do remember there being a rather heavy buzz in the air that Gary Numan himself was going to make an appearance (and even perform) at some point in the evening. This, unfortunately did not happen, although the possibility was exciting. Perhaps this was simply a well-crafted publicity stunt to swell an attendance that might otherwise have been lacking, who knows. The show was, however, one of those rare occurrences where a band's live performance blows the doors off their (admittedly mediocre) studio album. Each band member was very talented, and anyone who attends shows to actually watch musicians perform was rewarded with some very excellent musicianship. Roger Mason has a very distinct style (dare I say Numan-esque?) and since, at that time, I'd nearly worn out my vinyl copy of 'I, Assassin', hearing music along a similar vein was rather rewarding. A number of very good non-album songs were performed, making it an evening ripe for taping, but alas, I didn't start that bad habit until 1986... ~Robert ------------------------------ Date: 07 Feb 97 07:05:00 EST From: Gary Weir <100735.276@CompuServe.COM> Subject: PWEI - Friends To: "INTERNET:numan@cs.uwp.edu" I found this from the Pop Will Eat Itself mailing list. Although the band have technically split up, it appears that they recorded AFE before the split. The following was taken from an interview by Alison Crompton in Dec 1996, check out PWEI Nation at http://kzsu.stanford.edu/pwei.html. >We heard about another version of "Their Law" and you were >even doing a Gary Numan cover at one point?! > >Yeah we did that. > >Did that go out? > >It's coming out or it's come out, I don't know. > >Right, I'd better check on that again because I haven't looked into that one >for a while. That was "Friends" wasn't it? > >Yeah, "Friends", not "Are Friends Electric". > >Were you a fan? > >Well, I liked bits, you know. It was just like a good interesting thing to >do while we were sorting ourselves out. It's a >> cover of Our Friends Electric with Saffron doing the singing parts and >> Gary doing the speaky bits. Mmm. Don't like the idea of this at all. It's supposed to be a cover/tribute album, with artists contributing their interpretation of Numan penned songs. If GN starts cropping up doing speaky parts and producing on Republica's AFE, then the whole thing may come across as a Numan conceived idea, and backfire. If Republica lifted/sampled the original speaky bits then that would be OK I suppose. Our????!! To: Numan Digest I'm looking for some info. I've got a double CD of Razormaid mixes called "Prehistoric..." and a white vinyl 12" both containing the "This Disease 90' Remix". However I remember hearing a Razormaid mix of This Disease at a Numan Disco years ago which I believe was different. I think it was before 1990 as well, which would back this up. If I DO remember correctly, the mix seemed more, er, good. Does anyone know if there was another, earlier, Razormaid remix and if so what formats it was on? Of course, it could be my memory playing tricks on me! Also, I've got the 12" white label of Stormtrooper In Drag. In black felt tip on the label somebody has written "Gary Newman - Stormtrouper In Drag". Were they all like this (seems unlikely) or is it just an isolated case of brain death? Finally, does anyone out there have the lyrics to such odd bits as the extra verses in the Extended mix of Call Out The Dogs and the remix of My World Storm, or B-sides from 84 onwards? Oh yeah, and is She Cries a leftover from the I, Assassin sessions? It appears on the Images album covering 1982 rather than 1984! Questions, always questions... P.S. Fortean TV... just remember - lies, damn lies and the "paranormal". It might be funny if they admitted none of it was true. ------------------------------ End of Gary Numan Digest ******************************
