To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Numanoids, Are any Yanks intersted in a joint venture across the pond to see Gary? I am going for sure, but, if we could arrange a gathering I'm sure we could somehow share on expenses, etc. Is anyone on the list in England available to help out a few wayward travelers? I could really use help in scheduling a trip that would allow for the most shows in the shortest amount of time/distance. Please respond to the list. Thanks in advance!!!!! I'm lloking forward to actually meeting some fellow Numanoids "Face to Face." March 1997. Should be of some interest: GARYS BRAND NEW TUBEWAY ARMY What goes around comes around in the world of electronic music. Just after Kraftwerk zoom back along the autobahn, Gay Numan is up for reassessment, as pop's brightest babies line up to record their favourite Numan tunes on a tribute album out in May, called Random. Quite. Diverse genres will unite and acknowledge the debt owed to our friend electric - including Babybird, Beck, St. Etienne, Tori Amos and that arch-musical ligger Damon Albarn. In a delightful piece of pop irony, Pop Will Eat Itself have regurgitated Friends and Jesus Jones reappears to record We Are So Fragile. Strangest of all is classical French pianist Ana Pierle, who has done and Erik Satie-style minimalist version of Are Friends Electric. Gary, I am told is bemused by all this homage. A gaggle of grunge bands from Seattle compiled an album of Numan tracks last year and a cult US comic, dedicated to Gary and the Numanoids, features our hero and a number of large-breasted women battling the forces of darkness. He hasn't seen either. He is instead concentrating on his current career, that of being Britain's number four stunt flier, licenced to train and examine others. He was much safer in cars. -Ends- Quite an interesting little article and I couldn't find a bad word against Gary. I don't know how accurate the article is. The Express is quite good at getting most of the facts right but can slip up on the odd detail. Can't wait to see the US Comic - are copies available? I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice as to get tickets. Should I try to get them all ahead of time (if so, how would I do this?)....or should I just try to get them when I get over there? I'm planning to stay about 1 1/2 weeks, and see maybe 4 or 5 shows. Any stateside fans who might like to travel over together, or meet up once we're there, please email me. I'll have some other business to attend to when I'm over there, but my primary reason for making the trip is to see Gary. - David ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Mar 1997 18:08:55 -0500 (EST) From: Ultravox5@aol.com Subject: Gary Numan Digest V1 #310 To: numan@cs.uwp.edu This yank wants to hear Exile also!! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Mar 97 09:49:00 GMT From: Matthew Tamea Subject: Inconsequential Trivia To: "'Numannews'" Really...it is...but as the digest has been so bare of late, I have to do this... I'm reading a book called Microserfs at the moment about people working at Microsoft. There's this character called Karla in it (who by all accounts often seems a bit...way out) who at one point is talking about her childhood... 'Karla kept on talking about our bodies, her obsession, tonight about an hour ago before she fell asleep and I, as ever, remained wide-eyed and awake. "When I was younger", she said, "I went through a phase where I wanted to be a machine. I think this is one of those normal phases that young people go through now - like The Lord Of The Rings phase, the Ayn Rand phase - I honestly didn't want to be flesh; I wanted to be 'precision technology' - like a Los Angeles person; I listened to Kraftwerk and 'Cars' by Gary Numan."' So anyway - there you go!!! Told you it was inconsequential!! :) Matthew ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Mar 1997 15:29:50 +0000 From: dale seaton Subject: Radio radio To: numan@cs.uwp.edu I was looking through a record store in Sydney at the weekend and came across a CD single, Radio, by NRG inc and Gary Numan. Having never heard this I bought it anyway, to get home and find it is a new version of Radio Heart. I had no idea that this had ben released, and on coming to work searched the discographies on-line. I can't find it anywhere, but I spotted that the Nu-Zone Calendar for 1996 has it listed as released in August 1996. Was all this covered in the digest? I can't believe I would have missed it, since I have wanted to get this song on CD for a long time, and would have been out looking for it if I had known it was released. Tis a pity the original and extended original versions were not included on the disc as I think they were better, although the "Heart" mix is OK. The disc and the cover both list a 7.00 live version of Machine & Soul, but this is not on the actual cd. Does anyone have any info on this? Why the missing track? Why no publicity? Any further news on the rumoured dance mix of Radio Heart that was mentioned a while back? 2 weeks ago I came across the Generator version of Are Friends Electric? in a bargain bin in a Melbourne store, for $1.95! It's pretty bad though, not really much surprise it was reduced. cheers dale....... To: Was just wondering whether anyone has a copy of the MPEG mp3 file of "Metal Beat" that was mentioned in one of the January Digests? The ftp folder listed on the Digest no longer exists. I'd love to get a copy of it; please let me know if someone out there can help. Thanx- Steve in Florida ------------------------------ End of Gary Numan Digest ******************************
