TRAVELLING TO U.K. FOR NUMAN SHOWS Yet another version of Cars ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Mar 1997 10:39:50 EST From: "Colin Edwards" Subject: 1997 Tour To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hi there, long time no contribution......... If there are any US (or come to that non-UK) based fans who would like to make the best of the tour, then I would suggest looking out for the coach/hotels (same as the band uses) package that Pete n' Frank usually organise. I have never been on this, but I know a few who have and they rave about them. They often get to chat to Gary for hours after most shows, and meet lots of interesting Numanoids who often remain friends/contacts for years to come. Personally I will be attending the Southampton, Guildford and last night at Shepherds Bush (new venue for me and Gary (I think!!)) for certain, and would welcome meeting up with anyone for a beer or two before any of these shows. More to follow on this I expect....... Colin Edwards. To: "Gary Numan" In reading the last few Digests, I feel tremendously heartened that a number of people have expressed a desire to jump on the plane and go see Gary's 1997 tour. Although I rather doubt I'll be joining any of you there (my finances are, to put it mildly, somewhat disastrous), I did indeed make the trip last year, flying from Western Canada over to England for a 4-week stay that included six shows on the Premier Tour. That was absolutely, without a doubt, one of the highlights of my life. I saw relatives that I hadn't seen in 20 years (and one old girlfriend, but I won't get into that), I re-acquainted myself with a land that I consider to be my second home, and I saw The Great God Gazza strut his stuff at the Hammersmith Apollo. The Premier Tour was special in many ways, but I have a feeling that Gary's gonna out-do himself with this year's tour - and for that reason I'm kinda sad that I don't think I'm gonna be able to make it. But for those of you that are thinking about it: Find a way. Don't talk yourself out of it with all the reasons why you can't go, why you shouldn't go. Talk yourself INTO it. Work some overtime. Cut back on some expenses and SAVE THE MONEY. Make the trip. See him for yourself. For many of you it will be for the first time, for others (like myself) the first time in a LONG time. Either way, opportunities like this only come around every so often... and missing them is a tragedy. If you can find a way, then make it happen. There are travel agents that can help you find cheap airfare (the tour is in the tourism "off-season" so rates should be generally lower anyways). There are low-cost accomodation options available (ie: hostels), as well as great deals on in-Britain travel, if you're willing to invest a little in some overseas phone calls (try phoning at 6 in the morning - lowest phone rates and you catch them during business hours). And if you've got a few bucks to blow, there's always the "Numanoids On Tour" coach trip organized by Peter Gilbert: travel by coach from town to town and venue to venue, stay in the same hotel as Gary, and PARTY WITH GARY AND THE BAND EACH NIGHT. To that end I have re-installed a page on my web site that I took down after I got back from my last UK trip. On it is the sum-total of the research I undertook prior to making my trip. Some of the information may be a bit out-dated now but I suspect most of it is still relatively current, including phone numbers and whatnot. This page is not yet set up as a formal part of my web site (ie: there's no link to it from my main title page) but it will be soon. You can access it directly by aiming your browser at this link: http://www.netway.ab.ca/worldwidewebb/exile.html If you'd like to check out my own still-unfinished (insert sheepish grin here) journal of my trip to the UK, you'll find it on my World Wide Webb site (see signature line for address) under the title "Found You Now". Or, go directly to it by surfing to: http://www.netway.ab.ca/worldwidewebb/found_you_now/index.html Hopefully it'll give you a feel for what it's like to be "on tour with Gary Numan" (as it were). If you're considering making the trip, please do give this page a look-see. As human beings, we are the sum total of our experiences. Gary's music has enriched our experiences and therefore our lives. Seeing him perform in-person adds a whole new dimension to that experience, and I know it's had a tremendously positive impact on me. Just like it will on you. Please enjoy the show. /--------------------------------------------------------- / Joey Lindstrom numanoid@netway.ab.ca lindstrj@cadvision.com / http://www.netway.ab.ca/worldwidewebb/ / "There's a reason 'Wheel Of Fortune' is on right after 'Jeopardy'. To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hello everyone. I work part-time at a record store, and we just received a pre-release info sheet of Beggar's Banquet's Premier Hits compilation. The info sheet says the release date is March 25, and it mentions the compilation of Numan covers, "Random" as coming out early summer and that it will be a double CD! Just thought you'd all want to know. So, your interest in developing a group is of interest to me. I am a travel agency supervisor and can tell you that any group airfare rates requires a minimum of 10 passengers travelling on the same flights. I have a feeling this may not prove feasible, but, let's see if any others express an interest. I live in Canada, Halifax, Nova Scotia to be precise, so it is not a problem for me to travel to Boston or New York to meet up with a group of us. I know tickets, for the concerts, can be purchased through the NuWorld internet site. Hotel rooms if required could be group booked; although, London is currently experiencing a shortage of hotel rooms, so the rates will tend to be quite high. One hotel, with a great location in the West End, is the Tavistock. The rooms are fairly small and basic, but clean and acceptable and the rates are quite good. So, there are some hints. If anyone has any questions, post them on the Digest, and I'll do my best. Let's see who else might be interested. Thanks , Larry B. It's on "Reinventing the 80's : a trance tribute, vol. one Hypnotic records cat . number clp 9900-2 The track is by a group ? called Coercion. It's an instrumental trance version so it's pretty fast, sometimes reminescent of the sprint and motorway mixes . Nice synths in spots ; different than the original to say the least! I'd have to listen to it a few more times to say if I really like it or not , but at least the word is out for everyone to know. ------------------------------ End of Gary Numan Digest ******************************
