Please do. Maybe I'm the only one, but they normally make me laugh! Well, it does look slightly like there's a little fluffy cactus or something on his head...Still anything's gotta beat a side parting ! <"Pop Stars who vote Tory". Gary is pictured (circa 1991) with the simple caption "Well what did you expect". Whilst Gary's political declarations in the mid-80s were without a doubt the worst piece of PR ever in the history of pop, (and yes I am critical of his management for allowing this to happen)> Why blame the management ? <"Could you tell us members what is involved in marketing your work to record company executives. Does the Numan Group (or a company contracted by you to do the analysis on your behalf) submit its own market analysis and statistical collections etc., etc, on its fan base. I would imagine the record companies would want you to sell your product (ie Exile) and back it up with considerable market research? Just curious? I think this side of the business could be of possible interest to Derek's Digest Subscribers and might just open the eyes of a few of the arm chair critics that seem to plague you."> Is it me, or is this more irony ? <"Just slide out of Sydney - I can never go back."> Are we sure he's referring to the city ? If the rumor about Garys wig is to be believed then its predictable that the Nme took a couple of cheap shots at Gary. On the other-hand if its not a wig then I would recommend any balding individuals to avoid micro surgery. :) Austin compares Brucey to Gary (i thought Gary Glitter was bad enough) My hopes are Gary tones his hair down a bit , its not really relevant to Garys music at the end of the day nevertheless image is important. Gary is under no pressure from ourselves so its suprising to see him prancing around in leathers with a hair do that would make an average 19 year old look like their hair is thinning. :) I dont agree with Austin that it looks good or one can get used to it. The simple truth is it does not look kewl. The Nme and others can always take the piss as long as this remains the case. My point is Gary has to believe in us, drop the facade and get on with what he does best. The rest should fall into place quite nicely. A stupid subject I know but still relevant to Garys current dilemma. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Apr 1997 23:48:10 PDT From: "Magnus Haag" Subject: Newuser To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hallo! I'm new here. My name is Magnus Haag, I live in Sweden and have reached the age of 19. I first discovered Gary in 1990 when a friend of mine bought a collection of synth-hits, which containend a song we all know, Are 'friends' electric?. Gary has allways been with me, my taste in music has changed over the years, but Gary is allways there. I think that the first albums, like "the blue one" and "replicas" are the best, but i don fancy the other ones as well. My Gary collection consists of mainly vinyl-records, but the 77-83 CD-compilation is often played. On my birthday 18/4 i recived the singel "Radio Heart" shaped as a radio, neat! Any questions? A musical based on the sinking of the Titanic opened on Broadway this week. Last Sunday (4/20) there was a special on a local station about the show, and about the disaster in general. During a section about why the ship sank the intro from "Call Out The Dogs" was played. I was very excited to hear something by Gary popping up in such an odd place. Then, either Tuesday or Wednesday night I was watching a show on Public Access (a forum for everyday people to create their own TV shows) about the making of what I think was a student film. Over the closing credits, "Boys Like Me" was played. Well, at least I think it was "Boys Like Me." I didn't make a note of it, and I'm writing this down from memory (a rather spotty memory these days). Wish I could think of the name of the show, because it seems to me I remember seeing a video for "Down In The Park" a few weeks ago which might have been on this same show. Apparently, someone out there with a Public Access show is a fan. If I come across it again, I swear I'll take notes. ;-) It's interesting that Gary should turn up on TV in such odd places, especially considering the recent debates in the digest about whether his own TV appearances were ill-informed choices. I just read in Gary's NuWorld site that they have a release date for "Exile" on the Numa label, as a record deal has not yet been achieved. I feel very saddened by this, as I've been wishing only the best for Gary's search for "the deal". Excuse me, I do have a tear in my eye. I kept saying to myself that "this would be the one for Gary, finally!"--The man has worked so hard for us fans for the past 18 years. I can't grasp the concept that with all the music that we hear on the radio that a record company wouldn't snatch up Gary! I don't know, am I strange for feeling this way? I don't think so. I just don't think it's fair! The search, however, is not over for Gary, and I, of course, will stand behind his every move. In a lot of ways, I wouldn't blame Gary for wanting to "pack it in" after the release of "Exile", but let's not even think about that. Someday it will happen, but NOT today, thankfully. Oh well, I really can't say anything else at this point, I just hope Gary gets a phone call on Monday with a new record deal. Thanks for listening to me cry. :) David P Brezniak Gary, when you get that call, I know you'll let us know!!!! :-) ------------------------------ End of Gary Numan Digest ******************************
