Blimey, what do you think of the rest of the human race? A right wing fascist! How quaint. I thought the only fascists remaining were left wing (Cuba, China, Angola). Same results, same arrogance - I agree, it's unforgiveable. = P.S. You must be devastated about the demise of the Labour movement. David, A reasonable journalist? My commiserations. Are you looking for other wor= k? Also that some people are unable to understand "shy" people, and assume arrogance on the part of others who are self-conscious in the way they express themselves. Everryone has good days and bad days, journalists are well-practised at getting people to say things which they later regret when they see how it looks in print. Why can't "Nick" just accept that Gary N. is a musical phenomenon, but not superhuman? Overcriticalness comes from expecting too much in the first place. I've met Gary, and he seemed a nice guy, although he does express himself quite forcefully and openly at times. Is that really a bad trait? RANDOM. Brilliant! Nearly every track is good! Personal favourites: MOLOKO - A.F.E. No-one else has mentioned this one! DUBSTAR REPUBLIKA KENICKIE BIS JESUS JONES I like every track except one. Yes, you guessed.... The Orb. This may be a genuine NUman tribute on their part, which I have failed to understand, but I doubt it! They have been quoted as Numan fans. MMmmmm??? I even like the CARS remix - a lot more exciting than most remixes of it! Time for bed. One of the next steps in this chain of events is to set up an interview with Gary, if ever that's going to be made possible (so far it's been a dead end, which seems unusual, considering that he's been doing interviews and appearances like a madman lately.) The interview is supposed to go up as a RealAudio file, with clips in the Featured Albums and bios sections, and on AirStorm (when that gets approved.) My own opinion on RANDOM ... very variable. Some good stuff in there, and I even like the Orb's contribution, though I don't quite get what it has to do with Numan, aside from the odd sample here and there...! But yeah, PLEASE someone buy it ! POLITICS ________ On Gary's offensive views - He was a pro-gun conservative, which is offensive enough for most people! Well that just about sums it up ! :) The thing is more left wing pop musicians have their causes, and support them, be it freedom for tibet, bosnia, live aid etc etc etc, which were all incredibly positive things aimed at helping OTHER people, not just themselves, which HAS to be admired... You have to realise that in general in the UK, guns are NOT popular. Margaret Thatcher changed the face of the country with racist changes to immigration laws, the killing of the mining industry, privatisation of the country's assets, and laws such as Section 28 which were aimed at shutting down any council run helplines for homosexuals and PWAs. I think the thing that most people found offensive with Gary is that when asked, he'd never heard of such stuff as Section 28, but still espoused (is that a word?) his politics, so as well as having right wing views, he also seemed rather ignorant. Well thank God for that! The music industry in the UK is basically a left leaning industry, at least where the artists are concerned. Artists are generally considered as sensitive thoughtful human beings, and spouting about guns and Margaret Thatcher (when she is considered by most working class people as one of our most heinous leaders) is NOT a good idea, and even if its what you truly believe, it's at best pretty stupid.. Comparing Nick's opinions to the gassing of millions of Jews, gypsies and homosexuals is rather offensive and dangerous ground to tread! No one has mentioned PC except you Joey (but Id defend it if need be), and simply questioning someone on their political beliefs is not censorship. I cant recall any Gary Numan song being censored or banned by the government.. I think youve drifted into scaremongering exaggeration! The USA and the UK have VERY different outlooks on life. Its difficult to argue politics as the whole starting point is different. For example in Canada, I dont think anyone really calls Neil Young for his right wing views, but in the UK its a much more socialist leaning society, and if you sput right wing views then youre going ot be questioned on them! In the USA, Ted Nugent can get away with his extreme right wiong views and his views on guns, and if Gary was in the States Im sure his views would be very popular, but here, no... Just as if my band played in Alabama or wherever, Id fully expect to have to justify my own left wing views... Fugazi. RANDOM ______ I agree about AFE - but I DO love Moloko's version to bits - its the COOLEST version Ive ever heard - coulda done without Republica's though as its SO faithful to be pointless.. And I just cant stop smiling when Bis pull their ska secton in the last verse...! You CANNOT be serious!!!! :) I have a sneaking suspicion its just some unreleased Orb track they threw in and titled it JTW !!! I can understand that - it sounds to me like a really watered down NIN! That was just a joke, as they said they deliberately picked one they couldnt work out the words to and just made them up! ------------------------------ End of Gary Numan Digest ******************************
