All this BS about religion, the bible and being a good Christian should not have anything to do with it. Don't get me wrong i'm not knocking religion but I'm tired of reading some certian people go on and on. Who knows for all you know Gary might be gay...would you stop listening to him? I wouldn't...I would be a very proud fan. For those who have trouble listening to him because of their religious belief...well I say get off your high horse...it's about time! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jul 1997 21:25:29 -0400 (EDT) From: DaliFriend@aol.com Subject: Gary Numan Digest V1 #347 To: numan@cs.uwp.edu The worst comments I hear about Gary Numan in my everyday life: 1. "Is he the guy who sings "Short People?" (No, that's Randy Numan, you moron!!!) 2. "Gary Numan? Did you check under the Country section for that CD?" (I just sighed and walked away shaking my head) 3. "You like THAT guy? He must be queer if he wears makeup." (I again sigh and walk away, Dad never did understand my tase in music!) 4. "Who?" (Actually, I hear this quite often) 5. "Cars? Oh yeah, I just love the Cars!!! (That's an ENTIRELY different band, you moron!!!) I am not ragging on Gary, I love the man to pieces!! I just like to have some laughs! Share you obscure experiences with the "uninitiated" of the world!!! I would love to hear what the rest of the world thinks (or doesn't) of our hero!!! To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hi there! ::everyone applauds as Riana finally writes to the Digest:: Okay I want to get word out here: I think we should launch a card-bombing. Every Numanoid on the Net should send a greeting card of congratulations to Gary and Gemma sometime early next month, as they'll be getting married in a matter of weeks! I would love to see notices urging people to participate on every NuNet site... of course, we'll need an actual address to write to first.... but we can just discriminately torture Matthew Holbrook and he'll give us a P.O. box I'm sure. *evil grin* Who's with me on this?? Love and napalm, Riana von Scary Numan I need a .sig file.... darn AOL! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Jul 1997 01:53:24 -0500 From: funky stuff Subject: MP3s To: numan@cs.uwp.edu hi, first post 2 the list, but i'll get right 2 the point. i run a MP3 DCC bot on mIRC called NumanDCC (an MP3 is a stereo quality audio file, VERY popular). funny thing is, the only one i have is the 1999 remake, because my CDROM doesn't rip. i'd like 2 put a song from exile or the song "cars" to help advertise the new album. so if u have access to getting or making an mp3 of something from exile or "cars", email me, please. mailto:paisley1@mindspring.com -- may u live 2 see 1999, funky stuff mailto:paisley1@mindspring.com "Temptation is usless. Love is more important than sex." -prince (1985) "We were so sure. We were so wrong." -gary numan (1979) "Keep abortion legal." -someone i happen to agree with (19??) Religion is a difficult thing to discuss because non-believers (like my self) can't understand what it is all about, but it does not mean that I am anti-religon. You can live life following the same basic moral codes of honesty etc. without subscribing to a book of stories that were written a long time ago. Perhaps Gary feels the same and I would expect that he finds having to take the flak from people who find his non-belife as an attack on their beliefs, a pain in the neck. Andrew Westwood asked about an e-mail package. I just use the Netscape 4 package (Free of the cover of .NET magazine from Future Publishing) as it suites my needs very well. I have been going back through my Numan collection making tapes for the car and have ended up with 6 tapes of my favourite tracks. In particular I do like the newer live versions of tracks from his earlier LPs such as Replicas and Films. In the early 1980s I wrote animated computer graphics to I Die You Die on a Sony MSX (yes it was me that bought it) and then combined the song and program on to a VHS tape. Did any one else do something similar??? Does anyone know if its possible to get the actual Blade runner sound track instead of the orchestral version?? Nice talking to you all Stephen Catton ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Jul 1996 15:34:11 +0100 From: "Nick" Subject: Rebirth :) To: "Gary Numan" *********************************************************************** Ok folks just to prove I aint all bad news check out this awesome link. http://www.propellerheads.se/products/rebirth.html It points to Propellerheads Rebirth software synthesizer. With it you get 2x Roland TB-303's basslines and 1x TR-808 drum machine (more if you multitask with directx) The sounds you can get out of it are amazing, they are all analogue and are produced virtually. All sound tweaks including resonance and cut off frequency can be altered in real time to give you that vintage sound. Its so easy to use I even managed to knock up a very quick version of We are so fragile abit acid sounding but not bad considering. Its not a massive file (demo tunes are included.) If you like sequencers/synthesizers Download it you will not be dissapointed.!!! Anyway I have managed to avoid beasting other participants within the digest for at least one issue. :) although recent religious rumblings and assorted digs have tested me to my absolute limit. On the subject of fan status :) I would say anyone who shared the Numan experience and continued to do so for whatever reason could be thought of as a fan of some sort. I was therefore suprised by Garys comments to Dominic I am not taking sides but Dominic has proven his fan status we should all recognise that fact. LUFTGITAAAARRRRR!' over and over again). Yes, that's right, they were called PoopChrist. Anyway, I'd love to participate in this orgy of sonic wonderful-ness. As my own music is more like the bastard offspring of Mu-Ziq and Aphex Twin the end result will sound nothing like Gary Numan, which, in the interests of diversity, must be a good thing. ------------------------------ End of Gary Numan Digest ******************************
