Maybe I'd have better luck praying in public schools. :P On a lighter note, congratulations to the newlyweds, and (if the rumors are true) congratulations to Beggars for making a smart move. :-) Also a reminder to AOL Numanoids (there seem to be rather a lot really) that there is a Numan chat room on Monday and Thursday evenings (check my AOL profile for details). I won't be there (or working on my site) as much now though because school starts the day y'all read this, Thursday :(. If I'm feeling masochistic I'll take and post pictures of myself in the school special-occasions uniform. :P Love and napalm and sharp new pencils!!, Riana "Oh!... you're alive, I thought that rabbit was eating your head!" - David Bowie ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Sep 1997 15:30:04 +0100 (BST) From: "P.G. Whalley" Subject: A simple prayer To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Riana, Your wonderful post was both amusing and useless, and you should DEFINITELY call for Bowie to play AFE. Why Rush and Numan? - right-wing ideology (though Rush's New Right stance more sophisticated) - album concepts shaped by avant-garde literature - lots of imaginative keyboards - both have distinctive and singular sound/vocals - both provoked the sworn opposition of the mainstream press Don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting jumpy about the sudden silence over the record deal. It came across as being virtually signed and sealed a couple of weeks ago. Does anyone know what's going on? Keep the faith, Phil. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 31 Aug 97 11:39:13 -0500 From: Shane King Subject: CR-78 To: The pattern used in "Remind Me To Smile" is the preset pattern 'Rhumba' on the CR-78, with the high hat and bass drum cancelled. I know this because I own one and am listening to it as I type. I'm pretty sure that the "Heart Of Glass" pattern is different. And for more useless knowledge, this is the same drum machine that is used on the Phil Collins song 'In the Air of the Night'. The CR-78 was the first programmable drum machine and has a sound unlike any other. I've used samples of it pretty extensively on the album that I am in the process of completing. Has any of our UK fans read the article about Gemma and Gary which was published in the Dailey Mail Weekend colour supliment dated Sat,23rd of August? The 1st page was a pic of Gary sitting on a gate in a field giving Gemma a cuddle.(Everyone say AHHHHH) The next 2 pages were an interview that Gemma gave talking about how she met and formed the relationship with Gary. The other page was an interview with Gary giving his side of the story. I do not have the article to hand at the moment but as soon as i have it i shall be printing exerpts from it and scanning the picture of the happy couple together to send to whoever want's it. So WATCH THIS SPACE !!!!!!!!!! Many thanx and please excuse the bad spelling as i have a bad finger due to a rather vicious dog fish !?!......ANDY ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Sep 1997 08:38:06 +0100 From: amchaffie@meto.gov.uk Subject: Gary Numan Digest V1 #360 To: Gary Numan Gary Numan >Why are there so many Numanoids named Andy? Andy ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 31 Aug 1997 23:00:05 -0400 From: Michael & Beth Ann Damrath Subject: My Top Five, Fan ALbum To: Gary Numan A quick response to Mick Allen's post in Digest #360. My Gary Numan Top Five: #1) I Die: You Die #2) The Image Is #3) War Songs #4) We Need It #5) Warriors Boy, It sure is hard to narrow it down to five. Incidently, I've always considered myself something of a musician. I've played sax for 23 years. However when my sax was stolen back in '92, I was forced to concentrate on learning to play keyboards and music programming. Over the years, I've managed to record a number of Numan covers of my own. I recorded versions of 'Engineers', 'Face to Face', 'The Machman', 'She's Got Claws' and others. I would love to contribute something to a Numan fans album. It might be a little tough to find a way to make good copies of my old analog tapes, but it would be fun, too. Regards, Dominic. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 Sep 1997 22:25:44 -0500 From: machman@interaccess.com (Jeff Tolva) Subject: Outtakes and Demos To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Fellow Numanoids, I have been keen on Gary's outtakes and demos as of late! For the record, I consider outtakes, tracks that never made the final cut of an album or live performance. And I consider demos, early versions of tracks that either made an album or not. Gary has put these demos out on such things as the Fan Club phone number and his autobiographical "Images" albums. Here's a list that I have of such recordings: Outtakes - The Pleasure Principle - 11 versions of "Tracks", 3 versions of "Observer", 1 version of "Conversation", and 5 versions of "Cars". Berserker Tour - 4 versions of "My Shadow In Vain". Demos - (Early) Outland - 7 tracks from the Outland album BEFORE the studio fire. These tracks only differ slightly from the final release of Outland. Metal Rhythm - "Young Heart", "This Is Emotion", "Devious". Sacrifice - "Bleed", "Love And Napalm", "Metal Beat". If anyone owns or knows the existance of other Outtakes and Demos from over the years, I would love to hear from you! Maybe we could even arrange a swap of such things ;-) Numanishly, Jeff Tolva (The Machman) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Sep 1997 01:11:26 +0100 From: dhughes@globalnet.co.uk (David J. Seeing the response of the British public, and assuming that neither Gary nor Gemma are heartless robots, I can only imagine that they are feeling as saddened as many of their compatriots and people around the world. Words cannot adequately describe the pall that hangs over my heart from this pointless tragedy. While I am not a Royal watcher or Di-fanatic I felt, like so many others, that she was a force for good in the world, a world that has too few such people. I hope Gary and Gemma can find it in themsleves to celebrate their union. Like their wedding, the birth of my third son within the next 10 days will be forever tied to the time that the world lost the Princess of Wales/Duchess of Cornwall (the county of my birth and childhood).
