To: NUMAN So I did a search on Eagle Records in Alta Vista and this is what I found: (This does not bode well.. God! I hope this is not the actual company!) http://www.mic.stim.se/6/label/Eagle_Records.html Eagle Records Eagle Records was formed by a couple of guys in a Stockholm basement in 1983, and started off releasing mostly folk rock and country. Since then the label has broadened its scope and worked with some of the top class of Swedish acts. Gladys del Pilar joined the label in 1996 and immediately released one of the best soul albums of the year. Gladys was born in Ecuador, where she grew up in a nunnery together with her twin sister after their parents had disappeared. She was adopted and came to Sweden aged seven, and her wonderfully strong voice soon drew peoples' attention. She has appeared in several stage musicals, sung backing vocals for Dr Alban, and is now a fully-fledged solo artist. Her debut album "Movin' on" contains some excellent tracks, like the single "What about me", which sees her touching the heights of world-class artists like Dionne Warwick. She is published by Eagle Songs adm. The Monaco Bluesband play boogie blues/rock with a gleam in their eye - or at least they would if you could see through their shades! The band has released three records since they formed in 1982, and 1997 sees their fourth album release, "Sneaking out the backdoor". The Monaco Bluesband have played with giants like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eddie Harris and as support band for Johnny Winter and Joe Cocker. ---A Very Scared Scott Abfalter ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Sep 1997 19:55:48 -0800 From: Alyssa Jaraba Subject: Hello, I am still here... To: Gary Numan Hello digesters =) Sorry for the prolonged absence, although I don't know that I was missed all that much ;). The reason for the absence is that I have been recently diagnosed with a major and lifelong illness and am currently in a medication adjustment period, so my energy levels are very low at the moment. First off, may I join in expressing my sorrow over the loss of England's only truly regal royal and I only hope that her sons carry on her legacy of good will and humanitarian effort. (On a side note, Pavorotti was a good friend of hers, and was not chasing her...it was the paparazzi who were chasing her, and their reason was that she was involved in possibly the first happy romance of her life.) As for the Rush connection, I am assuming that you mean the band, not the radio host. I personally can't stand Geddy Lee's wavering whine (and I doubt I spelled his name correctly) but the music styles of both Rush and older Numan/Tubeway Army work rely heavily on bass rhythm. Could be the explanation, but that's just my two bits. As for Eagle Records, there seems to be some distrust that they aren't an established company. I for one couldn't be more thrilled. Let's not forget that Beggar's Banquet was not a huge name when they signed Gary either, and because of that they were able to concentrate on him as a key act, rather than allowing him to get lost amongst a zillion other acts. Does anyone really think he'd get more attention from Atlantic or RCA? And Beggar's Banquet has been so on and off with him lately I wouldn't trust them to really stay behind him. Lastly, huge congratulations to Derek and wife and may little Kennan fulfill all his potential and find joy in his life. (Next time I'm in SD perhaps I could get a look at the little guy....I'll bet he's adorable =). ) Peace, Lyssa -- Tearin it up..I'm living on empty... I live in London, and would be interested to hear from anyone coming over to the Hammersmith Concerts in the Autumn. PS. I have a Blue Vinyl Tubeway Army (one of the very first 5000) going spare, and I'm trying to get hold of a CD of Automatic. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Sep 1997 07:03:43 -0400 (EDT) From: Andyscobra@aol.com Subject: Numan Interview. To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hi All. As prommised here are bits from the Numan intervew which was in the Daily Mail "weekend" colour supliment dated 23rd August 1997. "I was a horrible person when Gemma and i first made friends after her mother died. The early fame and money had messed me up". "I was paranoid, hermit like. Irarely went out. I had no friends. I could hardly use the telephone or go to the shop. I would take every comment really personally". "When Gemma and i met i was counting the pennies on shopping trips to Tesco. The settee was propped up with a piece of wood because i couldn't afford a new one". "It's taken me a long time to grow up, to get used to what i do for a living. Without Gemma i don't think i would have got this far.Indeed, since she's come into my life everything has come together." "I've got a new album and film roll coming up this year; I've finallydiscovered how to trust people, how to make friends". "At the end of 1993 i went on tour and realised that Gemma was the answer. I missed her and realised how much she ment to me". " People might think it's an amazing ego boost to date your number one fan. But there's another side to the adulation. You live in fear of the fact that one day they'll realise that you don't glow in the dark, that you're not this mystical being who can talk about things that no one else has thaught of. Some day they will catch you dribbling in your sleep-what are they going to think then?" "With Gemma, it's really relaxed. We do very ordinary things together and i love it. Occasionally she'll ask me to 'do Gary Numan' and i dont like it. She tells me i walk differently when i'm Gary Numan- I swagger more, apparently". "someone once said to me that the perfect person would be someone who isn't quite perfect. To my mind Gemma has the perfect amount of imperfections. I would never want to change her. It's me that has to do the changing". Well there you have it. It seems to me that Gary will make himself more accesable in the future, lets hope so eh? Don't forget to plug your wife in just for show chap's !! Thanx.....ANDY :o) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Sep 1997 13:54:23 -0400 From: brezniakdavid@webtv.net (David Brezniak) Subject: Rambin' On Again..(sorry) To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Congradulations to Derek on the birth of your new son. (Sep. 5th, hmmm, I was born on Sep. 2...:-)) May your newborn be healthy and well. To LordNick: Hi. Just wanted to say to you and to everyone although the Outland site may appear somewhat 'negative' or silly, that's the way the author intended it to be, and he warns you of it right on his welcome page. I don't mind seeing different Numan sites, as they generally are almost alike (except graphicly and layout) the news and updates are generally somewhat alike. (no offense, I love all the effort everyone puts into their sites) I have had a hard time myself trying to figure a mood for my site "Exile" as the album is so dark, but I want a site everyone will be happy to visit. ANYWAY, I do happen to enjoy Outland as a 'less' serious side of our webworld, and for someone looking for something a bit different, I reccomend it highly. That's it for now.. May Princess Diana rest in Peace. Dave ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Sep 1997 19:48:53 -0400 From: Matthew Roberts Subject: Sirius Comics To: Gary Numan In Digest #362, there was mention of an interview with Gary in "Previews"= =2E Unfortunately there isn't an interview (despite the index saying there is= !) but there are several references to, and an advert for, the special relea= se of Sacrifice. This magazine is basically one long advert, but the nice things they say about Gary make a pleasant change. "...an album of 10 relentlessly infectious songs... Numan is one of the UK's top stars; an innovator in techno and electronic rock who has receiv= ed tribute from the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters and Beck, among others. Frightening, exciting, beautiful and magical, Numan's eccentric persona and outstanding musical craftmanship combine to make a collection= of epic songs..." "10 tracks by the Master of Electronic Rock! (capital's their's!). Gary Numan writes, produces and performs these violent and romantic songs..." The mysterious interview does however appear on the Diamond Comics WebSit= e (they are the publishers of 'Previews'). Gary says amongst other things: "I'm acting in a new film soon, AS WELL AS WRITING THE SCORE FOR IT....".= I don't know when this interview was given except that it was before the wedding. Did anyone else think that Gary was writing the film score??? It= 's news to me. Good news. Matthew Roberts ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Sep 1997 01:35:01 -0400 From: Sean Francis Subject: The Record Deal To: "Numan Digest (GN)" Digesters, So, it's Eagle Records then is it ? Hmmm. The fact that they are new tends to suggest that none of us would have heard of them before. Howeve= r, despite the fact that they are allegedly run and financed by some of the industry's most "experienced" people does not make me feel too wonderful.= = I, like Derek, will remain sceptical until they prove themselves to not b= e another IRS. Why haven't more details been released about the deal ? Is= it for a number of albums or for a number of years or what ? Will the future of the contract depend upon the performance of Exile ? Will Eagle= pump some money into touring ? I know Gary has had to fund the whole deal= himself of late, but I'm sure that I'm not alone when I say that the last= really really decent stage set was for The Fury Tour in '85. And why did = it take from August 1st to September 5th to tell us fans about the deal in t= he first place ? Hmmm. Speaking of Exile, if you haven't downloaded the soun= d files from NuWorld, then do. Oh my God, "Dark", "Prophecy" and "The Angel= Wars" sound awesome. I wonder if the release date of October 20th. appli= es around the world or just the UK. Anyone know ? Who from the US is going to the UK for the tour ? I'm going back to my 'home land' for Milton Keynes, Ipswich and London. If any US folks want/need help/information about all things English then email me private= ly and I'll help you if I can. Hey, we need to perpetuate the Numan line, right? :) (And I'm sure not gonna do it!!) But, as you said, it has been a terrible week... if it had been a daughter, Diana Teresa Langsford is a very pretty name. The world still reels from the past few days and all the lovely Numan News has been a bit dampened. But the Earth continues to turn despite all the blood... I want to mention that there is reportedly a Numan interview (conducted by Moby[!]) in this month's Raygun. Should be an adventure to read, both for content and presentation :). I looked for it tonight (after seeing Random in a listening display reminded me) but all I found was the August issue and I got pissed. :) (As in mad, not drunk) Andy (um... one of 'em), the snippet of the Gemma interview was amazing to read. I can't wait to see Gary's thoughts in your next installment (which I suppose would be the same issue as this message). It's quite a fairy tale, isn't it? I think it's cooler than a rock star marrying a supermodel. And I'm not surprised Gemma gets off on Gary's looking like "Gary Numan"... me, I'd request the Berserker look. ;) And btw, is the pic from it you talk about the one that's already on NuZone and Absolution? :) Love and napalm and eagles, Riana, whose hit counter is off the crack now, thankyouverymuch. "Explain this concept of 'anorak' to me again. Um, that'll confuse a Frenchman." ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 07 Sep 1997 11:50:43 -0700 From: Sue and Russ Ashworth Subject: Top 5 and other musings To: Here are my Favourite 5, 1:Complex 2:Are Friends Electric? 3:The Iceman Comes 4:Jo the Waiter 5:Berserker Runner up: Every Day I Die Heck, I hate Top 5s, they leave out so many. I lurk most of the time, but wanted to suface briefly to welcome Kennan...you'll hear some great music my boy!:)...and to offer my greatest best wishes to Gary and Gemma. Hope you are always happy together. Lastly, I am really excited by the recording deal. We are waiting for you Gary. I'm concerned that the problem in the past has been with the BBC refusing to give him air time. It would be great to think there was a way around that one, as it seems obvious that Gary will need to re-establish himself in Britain first to build up capital. I'm assuming here that Eagle are a British outfit. Why The Beeb froze him out I'll never know, but it distressed me then ,and it still does. I no longer live in Britain, and think maybe Gary should follow suit!
