Gary Numan Digest Sun, 14 Sep 97 Volume 1 : Issue 364 Today's Topics: Eagle Records Gary Numan Digest V1 #363 Gary Numan Mailing List Glitter and Ash Premier Hits (US) for sale/trade Responses.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Sep 1997 21:53:31 -0400 From: Matthew Roberts Subject: Eagle Records To: Gary Numan Scott, Very scary info about Eagle Records. But congratulations on the research.= Hopefully this will inspire others to dig up unbelievable facts ;-) about= the Numan world. = Watch this space. But seriously, Alyssa makes a good point. Eagle may not be a massive labe= l, but hopefully that means they will give Gary the attention he deserves. I= can't really imagine Gary signing to a major Major (Catch 22?) for the reason that Alyssa hints at - they simply wouldn't want to invest much of= their resources in developing someone that couldn't simply be promoted as= follows: "X is the latest thing and you WILL buy their record before everyone else= does and you feel like a social misfit...when I click my fingers you will= wake up and rush to the record shop." Oasis/Radiohead/Manic Streat Preachers anyone? I have to think that we need to give Gary a lot more credit than that. He was burned by IRS (artistically) and walked away VERY wary of ever getting into that situation again. That much is blatantly obvious from various interviews and comments on his web site. I'd be willing to bet that his contract with them gives him a great amount of artistic freedom --I can't see him signing on otherwise. Particularly when he was about to release Exile as a Numa release anyways... My concern really is mainly will Eagle Records really be able to fiscally support him and will they make savvy marketing decisions. If they cheap out on support or just don't work the PR well then he was probably better off without them (after all he's been doing remarkably well for being what amounts to an independant for the last number of years!) I really wish he'd come over to this side of the ocean for a bit though. With a major label I would have expected it. With some startup label, I am not holding my breath. *sigh* Scott Abfalter ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Sep 1997 21:17:39 -0400 (EDT) From: Hopey77@aol.com Subject: Gary Numan Mailing List To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hi there- Some info? OK. I'm known as Hopey. I live in Rhode Island and I am a graphic designer stuck in advertising... I am almost 27 and a female. Dreads and tattoos, etc. Of Welsh descent. I just spent my vacation at Graceland for Elvis's 20th anniversary. I am an avid MacIntosh user! Fave artists? Oooh - so many, besides Gary Numan. Let's see: The Damned, Peggy Lee, Buzzcocks, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Frank Zappa, Mozart, a lot of old Oi music, a lot of the local Providence, RI punk bands, Ultravox, Stray Cats, Pogues, I mean, a lot of things! I just sang backup vocals in a studio for a local punk band this past weekend. An experience indeed! I did use to play trumpet and fife. And a little guitar. That's it. Thanks! I'd like to find Gary Numan on video in US format. Is it available????? Hopey77@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Sep 1997 14:25:01 -0400 From: Cary Wiltz Subject: Glitter and Ash To: "'numan@cs.uwp.edu'" I have only 2 questions for anyone knowledgeable about rare CD finds: 1. The Asylums(1,2,3), How to get them? 2. Is Glitter and Ash on one of them? 3. Is this not the release from Japan with ALL of the lyrics(I lied...three questions)? I will pay TOP dollar if the answer to questions 2 and 3 are YES. I just thought I'd try again. I still have a mint condition US version of "Premier Hits" (catalog number BBL 2007 CD) for sale or trade. I'd like to cover my $15 USD in any sale, but I'd certainly entertain a trade for it as well. Hope to hear from someone soon! To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Sigh...here I go AGAIN....I apologise. To the folks who are writing in asking "why" Gary doesn't tell us more about the deal or "how come it took SO long"...give this thought a chance: a) He was busy for at least one day getting married, and I suspect since they're delaying the honeymoon, they spent a few extra days together... AND b) Gary may not at this point be able to tell us more in detail of the record deal, as it may be a legal issue from Eagle Records...'till everything is etched in stone, Gary is covering his butt.. LORDNICK: (I wanted you to read this) :-) I did finally see the remark made against you in "Outland" (the website) and it's something I looked at in two ways: first, if I were in your shoes, I guess I'd be pretty ticked off as well....but I have a sense of humor, and you yourself have to admit a few times (no offense, Nick) you have gotten carried away...not that that's bad, I infact have enjoyed a good arguement or two with you...:-) But, in either case, I don't feel the author meant any personal attack against you personally, but the character you've portrayed here at times (no offense again)....Ok Nick? No one here thinks you are a bad person (no one I know of anyway)....but you are a highlight of the digest, so just look at it like he honored your digest character here...(I'd ask to use your name first though....) :-) Anyway, as far as everyone who's scared about Eagle Records and Gary....remember that Beggar's Banquet was a real crap of a studio before Gary hit it with Are Friends Electric?..so just wait. They have big plans for Gary, and I like the idea of them putting him in their major plans for success...that means they'll be investing lots of money into Gary, which means more tours, more singles, more advertisements, more videos, worldwide distribution, too many plus's to list.... Cheers for now.... Dave p.s. yes, Marlene, the site will be revealed VERY soon.....possibly on Oct. 20th...the same day as the album release...:-) ------------------------------ End of Gary Numan Digest ******************************
