To: numan@cs.uwp.edu I know I am little behind on my NUMAN buys, but I just purchased the "RANDOM" CD. I am suprised it was released on an American label. Or at least "made in America." I think the cd is great. A few standout remakes by Posh and Deadsy. and I loved the 'Cars" remix, but real disappointments were Jesus Jones and Moloko. My absolute fave was Republica "AFE" remake. That is great. Those are my thought for now.. Have a great one. The first 2 cover all the Beggars Banquet studio albums (+ singles/b-sides) and consi= st of 4 CD's each. One of them was advertised for sale in a UK magazine this= month. I think they were asking about =A3100. They originally sold in the= UK (on import from Japan) for about =A340. Asylum 3 is just a single CD covering most of Living Ornaments 79/80. 2.Glitter And Ash is on Asylum 2. 3. Yes and no. In theory all the lyrics are printed in both English and Japanese (and the packaging is excellent with lot's of Peter Gilbert's photos of Gary posing around the house). However something is lost either= in the translation, or Gary's singing - some of the lyrics go a bit wonky= =2E The Asylum CD's are nice, but if you are particularly keen on getting Glitter And Ash on CD, you might do better to go with the Beggars Banquet= UK releases put out in 1993. These are double CD's covering basically the= same ground as Asylum 1 & 2 and also include full lyrics, although again with some errors. = I, Assassin is paired with Telekon (catalogue no.BEGA154CD) and includes= a track called This House Is Cold which does NOT appear on Asylum. The only= other difference is that BEGA154CD uses the original album version of We= Take Mystery whereas Asylum has the 12" version (and yes, both include th= e Early Version of We Take Mystery as well). The UK series and the Asylum set are very similar but there are a few differences. The tracks that appear on the UK CD's but NOT Asylum are: Don't Be A Dummy; This House Is Cold; We Take Mystery (album version). The tracks unique to Asylum are: all the Living Ornaments live tracks (mostly on Asylum 3); We Take Myster= y (extended version). The UK CD's are, I think, still in print and should cost around $25 each = to import. That makes say $100 for the whole set. If you can find the Asylum= CD's, I guess you'll pay about $400 for the set (or $350 for 1 & 2). Changing the subject, I picked up the re-release of The Fury on CD on Thursday. Brilliant - it's the Extended Versions, although the sleeve doesn't say so. I was really pleased because the original CD release was the normal versions. Does anyone know if the normal versions of Berserker= are available on CD? The two releases I know of are the Extended Versions= =2E Matthew Roberts "I hate quotes. Glitter and ash is on the Asylum 2 set.each disc contains the FULL studio album plus any b-sides from singles, extra tracks from 12" singles, any extended mixes plus some live stuff to completely fill the c.d's(the BEST Numan package of his early stuff available as far as I'm concerned) All c.d's have a lyric book(although some of the lyrics are made up)1 and 2 also have an additional book with the complete track listings beside the original vinal album cover picture As a point of interest,Asylum 3 is basically the "living ornaments" albums with the other tracks PLUS additional tracks dispersed between 1+2(although beggars say they have lost the "Ornaments" masters, maybe they are still in Japan) I hope this info is of value to you William Wilson...(Glasgow "Crazie") MUSIC OF QUALITY HAS NO FEAR OF TIME (PETE WYLIE,WAH!) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Sep 1997 09:28:31 +0100 From: Matthew Tamea Subject: FW: gary numan To: "'Andy'" , Jon Garland , Ya might chortle at this - courtesy of my brother (again!). ---------- From: Far Nog Ra[SMTP:farfar@telebyte.nl] Sent: 17 September 1997 07:40 To: mtamea@caci.co.uk Subject: gary numan she's got claws she's got claws she's got claws she's got claws she's got claws she's got claws she's got claws she's got claws she's got claws she's got claws she's got claws she's got claws she's got claws and I thank you son, yes that is the best claw I ever saw, and it's very tiny but still, you have to take what you can get these days, that's for sure, and claws are no longer two pence a pound no indeed, more like a small gold bar, or selling a kidney, so claws are always welcome around here, and she's got claws, probably more than one, gary, do you think we should do that rspca record 'cos most animals have claws too, dogs and cats, hedgehogs and bats, then it would level things out, them animals have got claws have got claws have got claws, and especially them hedgehogs use them for burrowing and scraping and stuff, pointy and sharp, its like terry nutkins on childrens tv, watch out for the urinating sheep, marked with the sign of lucifer, swimming in blood and entrails, the devil scratched my face, but it was only make-up, them scratches were only as deep as a lipstick, but then it was all cosmetics wasn't it, patch up a dodgy tune with an eyefull of rouge, well, i had to compete with duran duran didn't i, and david bowie was deficating over the future, there was only the north, so it was taken, shoved over like a half penny slot machine and wooden no mistake, don't be a dummy, spend your money, is she really going out with him, chip and dale, jilted john, bohemian rhapsody, sale of the century, smelly dick cheese, opium fields, slaughtered youth bathed in the guilt of a nation, many more and far few less, they taught you history, but it was a lie, so sleep now. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 31 Aug 1997 22:53:00 GMT From: simeon.hope@gexpress.gn.apc.org (Simeon Hope) Subject: Gary Numan Digest V1 #359 To: numan@cs.uwp.edu N>>Has anyone ever noticed that the little percussion intro to "Remind Me To N>Smile" is exactly the same as the intro to Blondie's "Heart of Glass"? This was a very popular machine at the time, being the only useable drum machine around. Ultravox used it on their Vienna album, notably on Astradyne (that metallic "ting" sound, which you can also hear on GN's "Remember I was Vapour" and "On Broadway"), Mr X and Vienna. Why on earth would a brand new record company use someone like Gary as a front line act? Lets face it he is fast approaching 40, his music is somewhat specialised and nearly everyone in the music industry hates him, not really a good way to start a company is it? I agree that Gary did make things happen for Beggars Banquet but then he was a young unknown in a changing music world. I'm inclined to think that maybe Eagle records are a spin off company from another big name which specialise it Gary's sort of style. Whatever i congratulate Gary but say to the rest of the numanoids out there don't get your hopes up we cannot turn the clock back, Gary is very unlikely to be the big name he was again. Oh and Gary if you are listening stop messing around with your fans release exile when you said mate because without us you'd be pushing trolley's in a supermarket carpark, we deserve better! Take Care everyone TF ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Sep 97 14:10:54 -0700 From: "Joey Lindstrom" Subject: The Scoop On Eagle Records To: "numan@cs.uwp.edu" A well-placed source has provided the following information re: Gary's record deal with Eagle Records. WHO THEY ARE ============ 50% of Eagle Records is owned by the folks who started, and recently sold, Castle Communications. Castle is NOT unfamiliar with Gary as we all know. Anyhoo, while I know little of Castle other than their Numan reissues, I'm told the people behind it started on a shoestring and recently sold the company for several million pounds, to (we think) an American interest. The other 50% of Eagle Records is owned by (hold onto your hats!) BMG Music. BMG Music, for those unaware, is MONSTROUSLY huge. Yes, boys and girls, Gary was NOT pulling our legs when he said he was hooking up with some major promotional muscle. BMG isn't, in and of itself, a big "label", really, but they are affiliated with, and own, a *LOT* of other labels - when I was working at MIX-105 radio out in B.C., about half of the new single releases came to us with press releases on a BMG letterhead. This could mean some serious promotion of "Exile" in terms of airplay. This means YOU must be ready to push your local radio station program directors to playlist the single (whatever it might be). BMG will push, but we have to be ready to help 'em out. And that brings me to: October 20th is still the intended release date for "Exile" - IN THE UK. Many here have wondered whether or not there'll be worldwide distribution. The answer to this question is "definitely yes" but what we do not yet know is WHEN. Certainly the release dates will be staggered somewhat, so if you've just GOTTA have "Exile" as soon as possible, you're still best off finding an importer. It *WILL* be available on record store shelves in Canada and the USA, and other territories - we just don't know when. Could be a month or two later - not all of these details have been finalized just yet. Here's some good news for more-recent converts to Numan - the Eagle deal includes Gary's Numa Records back catalogue. This, therefore, means that you'll ALSO be able to pick up "Berserker", "Strange Charm", "The Fury", and "Machine + Soul" domestically, likely for far less money than you'd pay to import 'em. Since there's already a North American distribution deal in place for "Sacrifice" (under the name "Dawn" - see NuWORLD re: the deal with Sirius Entertainment), we don't know if this would be included - my guess is it probably WOULD be, though, given the different title and artwork. Similarly, we don't know if Gary's IRS releases ("Metal Rhythm/New Anger" and "Outland") would also be included and/or any of the Numa/IRS live recordings. Work is well under way in terms of the production of the album. The pressing of the CD's, the putting together of the artwork, promotional work, etc., has all been under way for the past 3-4 weeks. "Exile" blasts off on October 20th 1997! :-) /-------------------------------------------------------------------------- / From: The Desk Of Joey Lindstrom +1 403-606-3853 / EMAIL: joey@lindstrom.com numanoid@ab.imag.net lindstrj@cadvision.com / WEBB: http://www.ab.imag.net/worldwidewebb/ /-------------------------------------------------------------------------- / I filled out an application that said, "In Case Of Emergency Notify".
