I could 've sworn I saw a copy when I went to purchase 'Sacrifice' in '94. I think this was the same format as the original BB Numan CDs (selected tracks from to LPs on one CD). Nevertheless, I'm excited to know according to Gary the tracks from the new release will be remastered and the '81 Wembely performance will be offered. I hope Gary has a wonderful, well deserved holiday (honeymoon) in St. Lucia. Did everyone enjoy his dentistry adventures? Oh thank you Gary for Nuworld! Hope everyone has a nice holiday weekend. //////////// Stephen Austra-Beck Clea: "Alberta?.........." ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Nov 1997 12:25:28 -0500 From: Cary Wiltz Subject: To: "joey@lindstrom.com" I'm a little confused: What do the Algerian Massacres have to do with anything pertaining to Gary Numan? Seems I am called to judgment. :-P (j/k) Phil Marsh said, <> ...about majorly moving songs. One might also call criticism of Christianity a "mildly interesting idea." After all, it's been done before. ;-) << but I'm sure Gary knows what he's writing about.>> As am I. And I knew what I was writing about was just a theory, a different way of looking at Exile. I hope it's shite! I don't want to look at the world that way! "Dark" and "Innocence Bleeding" affected me greatly one day while I was reading the paper and I realized another interpretation. If you'd read my Epilogue you'd know where I was coming from. Do research before you criticize, please. ;-) <> Arrrgh, 1200 words, double-spaced, please spell-check... this is sounding like my English class! :-) <> And I think it's a damn cool idea. Another way of observing things. Alternative viewpoints are always useful. <> Calling him ignorant and a liar! What a firebrand I am! I'm saying, dear reader, that I skipped over a lot of Exile reviews in the Digest because they all told me the same thing. I got Exile; I formed my own opinion; I got an idea from armed forces in the Persian Gulf (and no one is happier than I to see that situation apparently resolved peacefully). I developed the idea and thought it might be "mildly interesting" to other Numanoids who also might like a review which doesn't gripe about "sameyness." And by the way, Mr. Marsh, pretense invaded the Digest long before I did. Too, if there is one thing I strive to avoid having, it is pretense. Pity that creative thinking equals it then. I am ever so greatly indebted to you for pointing out to me the error in my ways. Never again will I veer from the norm! Love, napalm, and sorrow over Michael Hutchence, Riana "We are not gods. I have seen neither hide nor hair of it here in Austin, where retailers have had no trouble getting the Numa CD's or the Beggars Banquet double-sets as imports (or even the Japanese Asylums when they were available). I'm wondering if Eagle are turning out to be the panacea of promotion and exposure Gary was hoping for. If you live in Northern California, there's no excuse not to own a copy of 'Exile.' As far back as Nov. 7th I've spied copies in Streetlight Records and Rasputin Records in San Jose. If they have it, then I'm sure the Berkeley stores have it too. And The Beat in Sacramento is always up on Numan stuff. So if you live near one of these stores... go get it!!!! To: "joey@lindstrom.com" I am back home again, and wish to thank all of you who have sent either email, cybercards, or real cards. I had my roommate write an email and post it here about a month ago, as so much has been going on in the Numan world, I'm sorry I've missed out on quite a bit, However, I am lucky to be alive after the car accident. I will shortly be going through all my past digests and seeing what all you fine folks have been up to.....(let me guess...the tour....) and I only have one quick comment to make about Exile for now: EXCELLENT. That covers that...I've listened to the cd now a good 100 times, if not more, (in fact, one of the nurses in the hospital is going to contact me to get her a copy....I turned someone into a Numanoid)...:-) Missed all you guys....see you soon.... To: "joey@lindstrom.com" I bumped into an old mate last week in Tesco's of all places. We got talking about the old days when we played in bands together and I suddenly realised that it was 10 years ago that I formed Young Things Don't Scream (The first and greatest Gary Numan tribute band, accept no imitations) with Phil & Roger. It was the greatest time ever, we were, on our night, the best band I ever played with (And I had a few). We captured the spirit of Gary's early sound particularly well by using the same synths etc etc and studying his records maticulously. Damn that was great fun. I wish it had lasted longer. The fans were great to us. They loved us even on our crap nights. I became so involved with it I started to believe my name was Rrussell (Being the guitarist) cause, the fans used to shout at us as if we were Gary and the Band. So for anyone who remembers YTDS, saw us live or bought the album (20 track Gary Covers Album) Thanks for the memories and I hope you are all well. Any old friends out there my e-mail address is pearsom@eu.mwhse.com Regards-Mark. Regards-Mark. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Nov 1997 11:18:14 +0000 From: Louise J Hopper Subject: Intro from a NuBie To: "joey@lindstrom.com" Hi Everyone, I'm new to the digest, so here is a little introduction. I've liked Numan on and off since '79. I went off shortly after he introduced the female backing singers because I prefered to hear Gary's voice. When Sacrifice came out I thought he'd made it just for me! It was exactly what I was after. Outstanding. I like every track. I don't play any instruments. I like loads of other bands, but I like none the way I like Numan. I've read the Autobiography. Compulsive reading. When you've read it, go and read 'Espidair Street' by Iain Banks. Lastly, I went to the Numan Disco at the weekend. The Numan Principle did their show and I think Jason Smith is amazing. Truely a tribute to the man himself. I enjoyed myself and if you're reading this Jason, please accept my most sincerest thanks. -- Louise J McGregor Tel: 01491 875296 email: louise@fet.i-way.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Nov 1997 16:07:42 -0500 From: Matthew Roberts Subject: Numan Disco To: "joey@lindstrom.com" Had a brilliant time at The Numan Disco in London on Saturday. The Numan Principle were excellent and it seems only one person didn't enjoy themselves (don't know what that was all about??). I understand the whole thing had to be organized at the last minute for some strange reason but there were 50 or 60 people there. Apparently there's usually around 150 so I'm looking forward to the next one. I was talking to the band and their next gig is in Chelmsford on 11th December. Anybody who can go should! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Nov 1997 14:45:13 PT From: "Mark Stanton, Industrial Design & Visualization" Subject: Numan on tour in USA?!?!? To: "joey@lindstrom.com" Here's a juicy tidbit: Now I can't really name names of people or venues but... When an act plans to tour they are 'put up for bid' to venues in an area. The venues bid for an act depending on how much they want the act, etc. A friend of mine mentioned to me last weekend that a venue he works with recently was called to bid on Gary Numan. This would either mean he would be coming to town within a few months or... it's just a teaser to find out what the interest would be (that's the warning not to get too exited yet). If I hear more, you'll be the first I tell. Mark. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Nov 1997 12:47:37 -0600 From: mark a hubbard Subject: Numan stuff To: "joey@lindstrom.com" Hey Troy! If you're looking for a copy, which is supposed to contain a special version of the song "Dark", let me know. The price of the compilation will be advertised shortly before the release because at this point I do not know whether it will be a double CD or not. The fall-issues of the German Indie/Goth-magazine "Neuro-Style" will also be released in December. The mag is available with or without a complementary CD (DM 5,90/DM 21,90) which will contain the "Exile" version of "Absolution". If I can be of help in obtaining the mag etc. let me know. The December issues of the German mags "Zillo" and "Orkus" (both will be released on the 28th of November) will contain an item about Gary. The October issues of both mags contained full-page ads for "Exile". Furthermore both mags contained very favourable reviews of "Exile". All in all Gary currently appears to treated very nicely by the German press. Uebrigens: Who can help me get the US-"Sacrifice" from Sirius as well as the US-CD-Single "Magic" (also Sirius)? Any help will be appreciated. A little note the Numan Digest readers. If you guys unearth any cover versions of Numan songs anywhere in the world it would be really appreciated if you could provide your fellow-fans with the label and ordering information. Unfortunately some of these releases are only available as imports in several countries and in these cases label and ordering information can make things much easier. I've been looking for the "Tia"-version of "Cars" for quite a while now without success, because I do not have the above information. A quick note about the RANDOM 3-Fan-Project: More contributions appear to be on the way. more info about the project is available on the following site: http://www.geocities.com/Paris/Metro/3010/ The deadline for contributions to the project is the 31th of March '98.
