They release CDs by many acts similar in style to the sort of music Gary is doing these days, a lot of goth/industrial acts like Front Line Assembly, X Marks the Pedwalk, Switchblade Symphony and others. Good distribution and generally well respected for an indie. A major label would bury Exile, it not being the sort of stale Oasis-y/Pearl Jammy guitar rawk wank they're used to. Cleo can hit an established core audience that will be receptive to Exile. It will in any event not be the debacle IRS was, that's for damn sure. Martin ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- /\ /\ / \/ \ \ /\ / \/ \/ "Of course all art is artificial. It only symbolizes the truth. But the sort of artificiality that comes from lack of skill, of professional flair, cannot be passed off as style; ...it's a sign of provincialism, of the wish to be noticed as an artist. What the audience deserve is respect, a sense of their own dignity. Don't go blowing in their faces; that's something even cats and dogs dislike." --Andrei Tarkovsky ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Dec 97 14:58:33 +0100 From: silvan.lassauer@ubs.com Subject: Gary Numan: Black Heart To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hi Today I received a "new" Numan-Compilation-CD called "Black Heart". It's released on "Culture Press Records". Maybe they are linked with Receiver Records, because the track-list (shown above) is simular to the endless series of Numan-Compilation-Albums. The front-picture is from the Telekon-Area, but in a good quality. The sleeve-notes are from Eric Coubard in french (!) and english. Track-List: -Are Friends Electric Live (from the Exhibition Ghost Tour) -We Are Glass (from the Exhibition Ghost Tour) -I Die You Die (from the Exhibition Ghost Tour) -Cars (from the Exhibition Ghost Tour) -Call Out The Dogs (from the Exhibition Ghost Tour) -Berserker -Emotion -Machine and Soul -Pray -The Seed Of A Lie -A Little Lost Soul (?!?) -Black Heart (?!?) Track-list isn't correct mentioned in the booklet, on the cd there is also "Soul Protection". Just one CD more to forget... To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hi everyone, I was stunned and amazed to read that Exile will be released on Cleopatra (aka "Celopetra"... they're infamous for their ;tyippo's). Of course I'm thrilled that Exile is being released domestically, but... Cleopatra's a goth label! ::laughing hysterically:: He joins the ranks of Aussie band Big Electric Cat; San Francisco Bay natives Switchblade Symphony (yay); Children on Stun; and Leaetherstrip. Hehe... maybe now Numan will be in a Remix-War! ;) I guess this makes the Numan-goth link explicit, then. I know a lot of gothbois love Numan and try to look like him, and I know (of) more than a few Numanoids who also are goths! (Hi Paul and Leon! :) Now I'm wishing I had included Numan in an article about goth I wrote recently! ;) On the topic of the popularity of using German words and phrases, I think maybe it's an industrial thing. Also it's sort of natural, I think, since English is related to German. I'm part German and have been wanting to learn for a while (maybe in college). Plus German just sounds so cool... sehr gut! :) Bis dann bei Numan-Digest, Riana "I'll be picking up your petals in another few hours..." ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Dec 1997 15:17:30 +0000 From: webbon@dircon.co.uk (Steve) Subject: Living Ornaments To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hello all and thanks for subscribing me David. It's been a very long saga, but after a few false starts Living Ornaments are finally available next week. Back in 1993 it looked as if all the tapes were lost, so a double Cd was prepared : CD1 was the '79 Hammersmith show reconstructed from all the various sources (The living Ornaments vinyl / B sides / mono videotape) - it was OK but a bit erratic on the sound matches and missing a couple of numbers. CD 2 was the LO '80 album. However, just before release, the original tapes were located, so I pulled the release. Unfortunately, I'd spent so much time on the Numan catalogue by then that I didn't get a chance to return to the project until this fall. I then discovered that the master mix of the '79 show was MONO and done for the videotape! So... the final solution was to return to the original multitrack masters and get the whole show remastered by Tim Summerhayes, the original engineer. And that's what's being issued as Living Ornaments '79 on double CD LO '81is basically the same as the soundtrack to the micromusic video (but in stereo). I wanted to add 'Conversation' which was performed on an earlier night so I sent the tape off to be mixed and guess what... the track wasn't there. Some problem with marking up the boxes. However, I did find a mono monitor mix of the track - this means the vocals are way to high and the sonic balence is wrong - and rather than put it in the correct place in the show I've added it as a bonus track on the first CD. So Living Ornaments '81 is again a double CD. For the forseeable future these two releases are ONLY available from Beggars Banquet mail order and can be ordered off the web site - http://www.beggars.com Meanwhile, I live in hope that the tapes to LO '80 will one day appear, but if not then I'll just have to release the show as the original album on a low price single CD. Other news for USA fans... We will be issuing Gary's first four albums in the US and CAnada in spring. All will feature restored original art with expanded packaging and mostly the same bonus tracks as appear on the UK double equivalents. The main exception is Tubeway Army which I'm hoping to do something special with. Anyway, these should be mid price and on general release. And finally... the CD of RAndom 2 will be released mid-March ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Dec 1997 12:32:01 +1100 From: Ashley Fletcher Subject: Reaquaint with the Numan fan base! To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hi all Recently rejoined the mailing list after a period of absence. What are the threads at the moment? Just bought Random (my fav is Deadsy doing Replicas if there was a poll). Can't wait for Exile - any news on release in Australia? (Or should I order over the net?). Not so sure about the tolerance of all fans following a message I got this morning after leaving my vote at a site (can't remember which) a couple of weeks ago. <<< Date: Wed, 17 Dec 1997 12:26:34 -0800 (PST) From: Andrew Ellison Subject: You sad Side Parting To: image@earthling.net You Aussies are so upside down, how on earth can you say such dross as "I die;you die" is the best track ever.. didn't you know that kenny everett was dead just like the "TELEKON" album...... Today I anonymously mailed him a dead rat. If anyone hears it mentioned on-air on Radio One would they please let me know? To: numan@cs.uwp.edu This was plucked from Information Society's official page at http:\\insoc.org In other news, I just finished a re-mix of Gary Numan's own re-make of his own song "I Die; You Die" from his 1980 album "Telekon". This song will appear on a Gary Numan re-mix compilation that Cleo will have out in the spring. More on that as it develops. Anyone know anything about this? Also, apparently Gary Numan is under consideration to do an Information Society remix on an upcoming greatest hits remix album (http://insoc.org/texts/GH.htm) Dave ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Dec 1997 15:05:36 +0100 From: "joeri" Subject: x-mass gift: live at the roxy on mp3 To: "Gary Numan" Numanoids, Two weeks ago I was offered a copy on CD of "Live at the roxy '77". I paid about 15 pounds for it. I converted all songs into mpeg3 files wich I'm going to upload on "Prophecy: The Gary Numan Site from Belgium". Because I have limited Hard Disk Space on my provider I will put ONE song on the web every TWO weeks so people will have the chance to download it, afterwards it WILL be DELETED, if you forget to download them: bad luck! For those who don't know what mpeg3 is: Normally a 4 minute sampled song is about 40 Mb.With mpeg3 you can convert them into smaller files(40mb --> 4mb) without losing sound quality.(compress them) You will need an mpeg3 player to play them and a fast computer, so a 486 with 8 mb won't work! You can also download Mpeg3 players for Macintosh on the WWW. So the files you can download are the same quality as I have on CD.(it's good!) I was heard 'live at the roxy' is a bootleg so I think it's not illegal with what I'm going to do. You can download them for free, I don't want money for it. If anyone has problems with that please mail me and I will delete them. You can download the first song (see track listening) from the 18th of december. The track listenig on the CD is: 1.Motherless Faces :2,67 Mb 2.Boys:2,02 Mb 3.Blue eyes 1,88 Mb 4.You don't know me 2,24 Mb 5.My shadow in vain 3,87 Mb 6.Me my head 3,87 Mb 7.That's too bad 3,07 Mb 8.Basic Joe 2,87 Mb 9.Do your best 2,41Mb 10.Didn't I say 2,26Mb 11.I'm a poser 2,24 Mb 12.White Light - White Heat 2,74 Mb 13.Pure St. Joy. 3,43Mb.
