Apart from the Brussells gig 5(?) years ago, these are the first potential dates outside the UK since the Nov. 8th final concert of his 1982 US I, Assassin tour at the Park West in Chicago. Let's hope we see US, Canadian and other cities around the world listed soon. >From NuWORLD EUROPEAN TOUR (News date: Dec 18) The first noises about the forthcoming World Tour are beginning to come in. A meeting with the Agency is due sometime next week but the suggested cities for a two week tour at the end of March are as follows. Please bear in mind that these cities may change but this should give you an idea. No firm dates have been put to us as yet but all that information will be posted as soon as things are confirmed: Hamburg Cologne Berlin Munich Paris Brussels Amsterdam Copenhagen Barcelona Milan This tour is intended to be very much a showcase affair with most of the venues being small clubs. A cheery greeting to everyone out there in Numanland. My name is Jim Napier in Ithaca, NY. Many of you remember me as The Machman. You see, from 1989-1995 I issued Gary's only international Club Fanzine. This was the only source of Numan info for folks in 12 countries before the miraculous age of The Internet, which is the main reason I discontinued my crusade. It was mucho fun to be the hub of a massive Numan network for so long and it was truly an honor. The Club Fanzine was issued 12 times yearly and featured the hottest news, exclusive photos, trivia contests, a free classified section and plenty of surprises along the way! Members even received a free catalogue for the asking which included no less than 14 Numan videos full of TV appearances and approximately 100 live audio shows to peruse. Since so many Club Members were in their own bands, I even compiled TWO special 90 minute tapes of their bands cranking out their own special brand of Numan. That was a hoot! Also, the Club was responsible for this hemisphere's only Numan Discos. They were attended from Club Members from Florida to Los Angeles. I put one together for each year the Club existed. They featured a DJ from England, great Numan music, raffles and even Numan sing-a-long contests. In keeping with Numan Newsgroup decorum, I first got into Gary a bit later than most in 1982 when I finally broke down and bought The Pleasure Principle with my paper route money. Since that day, July 5, 1982, I was unalterably hooked and purchased 2 more copies of TPP having worn out my previous vinyl. I purchased the other albums straight away and readily identified with every theme. It was as if Gary and I were twins. When I started the Club Fanzine in 1989, the members were a huge help sending in news clips, calling with info and generally teaming up with me to make it a massive and useful project. Brian H. in Denver even sent me copies of the Numan Newsgroup postings before I purchased this new-fangled gadget and even mentioned me in here whenever possible (thanks!). Other bands I like include Devo, Kraftwerk, Jane Siberry, Duran (who I saw last week), and Depeche Mode. Ironically, I believe I am the only Numanoid who never got into the likes of John Foxx or Ultravox. Lately, I've received a lot of e-mails about making the old issues available again, and even the catalogue of videos and audio. So to answer that demand, I plan to construct a schmancy fancy website for Numanoids to peruse within the next 2 weeks. I'll keep everyone posted. Lots of thanks go out to all the old Club Members who were only a treat to be associated with, as well as Derek for this awesome Numan Newsgroup. Also thanks to all the Numanoids who take the time to design their incredible websites, I think they are some of the finest sites on the web. And Richard P. in Ottawa, if you're out there, e-mail me with your new address, so I can mail ya back!! Cheers everyone! 'Til next time! It's a collection of comedy sketches and is normally pretty sharp. They regularly do a piss take of European TV called "channel 9" which generally highights how crap it can be and this week it was a kind of comic fairy tale. The shock came as the handsome prince stepped onto a footbridge to make his way over to the fair princess, as he took a step, there was a loud sound, as he took another, there was a different sound, as he began to walk, his steps played out a snippet of Cars!! I don't think I imagined it but then of course, I was very, very drunk..... (is that ironic). i'm sean payton and im in an electronic band (car81mob.) and im a 18 year old american, living in colorado (im not proud). this is what i think of exile: whats with the drum loops? - i'm really not sure why numan uses drum loops so frequently. i find them very weak; they sound like they are far away. gary needs to either hire someone or stop being so lazy. i think exile (and sacrifice) are twice as powerful with decent drums. lyrics - i really like the lyrics. the concept is great. i have always loved numan's lyrics. the lyrics set that "this is so hopeless" feeling. "and i believed. amen." sounds like something from nine inch nails. 1. Dominion Day - where the bass?! when is this song gonna break? bad verse/good chorus. (damn drum loop). 2. Phophecy - bad verse/good chorus. (damn drum loop) 3. Dead Heaven - is this prophecy? i thought i just heard this song. oh wait this bridge made of me loose my balance. oohh good break! (damn drum loop) 4. Dark - ohh this is dark! chorus is alright. oh muted distored guitar!! cool guitar noise end. (damn drum loop) 5. Innocence Bleeding - i like this song. the best vocal medley on the album. ohh the acoustic guitar is a nice touch. (damn drum loop) 6. The Angel Wars - i like the title. another bad verse/good chorus. good lyrics!! (damn drum loop) 7. Absolution - the best song on the album. maybe im on crack (or you all are) but this song is really good. lyrically but escpecially powerful musically. (damn drum loop) 8. An Alien Cure - not bad/not good. good bridge. (damn drum loop) 9. Exile - ok verse/great chorus. some good noises. the cello sounds really good. not a great last song. (damn drum loop - the worst on the album) what if ... - what if this album was produced by trent reznor? i know im biased being a nin fan, but i think exile would have been a great album for gary to get on nothing records. i know the other teenager on this mailing list agrees. i can just see it : "pop star corrupted by nine inch nail frontman trent reznor". gary, (if you read this) fuck cleopatra and gravity kills, you want, no you need nothing and nin. i really believe this would give you the album that really is better than "telekon" and would give you some success in the US (finally). america is ripe . . . final impressions - a great concept, but only a good album. gary definally gets a point across and sets a terrifing mood but i wish greater effort was taken with each song and that each song stood out on its own more. right now the only song that sticks of my mind is "absolution" exile has major holes in the production. ill say it again: gary, work with trent! rating- 7 (of 10). as good as sacrifice but not as telekon. so what do you think? s.payton http://pw1.netcom.com/~angst81/car81mob.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Dec 1997 10:35:45 EST From: DCGaySLP Subject: The Record Label Ripoff???
