I couldn't be happier... but... It looks official... Gary Numan doing a song for Dark City Numa 1st Anniversary Album Numa back catalogue. numan webwatch continues..;) RELEASE DATES The Angel Wars radio play! Which is the better Exile? Wow, two songs in two nights ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Feb 1998 23:01:13 -0800 From: Derek Langsford Subject: ADMINISTRIVIA To: numan@cs.uwp.edu THE DIGEST ASKS GARY - IS COMING BACK!!!!! Gary has kindly agreed to take questions again from Digest subscribers on a monthly basis. Tours may preclude him from answering in some months but he is up for doing this again after nearly a year's hiatus, primarily caused by my crazy schedule. He requests though that they be limited to 15 or 20 a month. As a result, I may have to select the most interesting 15 or 20. While this requires considerable discretion on my part, I can't see how else it can be done. My main goal will be to not waste Gary's time. Questions that have been asked before or one's requesting information that is available elsewhere will be the first to go. Rude or stupid questions will be next. Then the decisons will get harder, but I am committed to bringing this feature back to the Digest, one that separates it from the other online Numan services. We may not be able to have pretty pictures but at least we have the man himself participating:-) Here's the process. Mail questions you want Gary to answer to me at dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu. Use a subject line with the words "Gary" and "Question" somewhere in it. So, "question for Gary" will work as will "gary Question". (I'm making it easier than before by not insisting on a specific subject line as subscribers had problems remembering it. This time my filters are set up to catch every possible combination of these words except if they are misspelled). At the end of each month I will collate the questions, take the best 15 to 20 and email them to Gary. With luck, he'll respond within two weeks and they will be posted to the Digest soon thereafter. Previously, Gary was very good about responding to these questions, and I have no reason to doubt he will change that this time around. I am sure the return of this feature, with all that has happened this past year and what's to come will make this a lively feature. Start prepping your carefully considered questions! Thank you, Michael Knapp Columbus, Ohio ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Feb 1998 12:34:08 -0800 From: theartdept@att.net (rod reynolds) Subject: artwork for cleopatra releases To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hello. I have handed in my completed artwork for the cd The Mix which will be released in America in April. I was going to post the track list but Gary beat me to it on his website. I hope he (and everyone else) likes the work I have done. Now I am starting to work on a compilation that will precede the American release of the Numa back catalog. I am authorized to solicit photos to be used in the artwork; I used all the best ones I had from the one and only time I have ever seen Gary live (Teletour) on my first cover, since I didn't know if I would get to make a second ;o) So if anyone on this list has photos that you have taken personally of Gary and would like to see them on an upcoming Numan release please let me know (theartdept@att.net) and we can make arrangements from there. I do not have much of a budget but can pay a small honorarium for any photos that are actually used. You will be required to sign a waiver if the photos are used, and anything sent to me will not be returned. You must also be aware that any photos may be digitally altered (ie they may not necessarily appear in their original form). Please respond quickly as I have already started working on the cover. Also (and I hesitate to do this for fear of being flooded with responses, but) if anyone has any track suggestions for a 2 cd compilation feel (relatively) free to let me know. The material must be NUMA only and must include live tracks of his most popular material (ie Cars, AFE, DitP, etc). The label feels that there must be recognizable song titles on the cd if the 'more than die hard' fan will buy it (which is the plan in case you didn't know ;o) I am allowed to use whatever Numa material I can find so I will be using tracks from the Babylon series (but I want to save most of them for the re-releases of the albums). To: numan@cs.uwp.edu My name is Jenn Vix, www.jennvix.com I am a singer/songwriter with albums. I play bass, keys, drums, and a little guitar. I have been a Gary Numan fan for 18 years. A few of my favorite songs are: Somethings In The House, Down In The Park (the piano version), I Die You Die, We Are Glass, Every Day I Die, Music For Chameleons, and Stormtrooper In Drag. I would eventually like to hear every album that Gary has made, I just ordered Exile today. To: I just picked up the new Hypnotic (Cleopatra) compliation "Into the Mix ][, the Second comming" And on it is the Sphawn Ranch Mix of Cars. Not bad... I clearly recognize the Techno Army vocals, but the music is very different. I hope the rest of the album "The Mix" is as good, and that I can get a copy of it... or will it be yet another thing that is UK only... I sure hope I can get copies of all the Numan stuff that is comming out, I may have to have Derek get them for me though as he has access to better import stores than I have at the moment :-) Hi Derek... Personally, I really like most of the artists on the Hypnotic/ Cleopatra label so I am looking forward to "The Mix" espeically the Anubian Lights mix of A Question of Faith... they do a song I really like on the first "Into the Mix" album (not related to numan, but released by H/C) called "The Ba and the Ka" It will be interesting to see how these artists treat Numan... I can assure you all from my experiance of their other work that they will do a better job than Techno Army... but then I liked Techno Army so I guess I better just don my flame retardant armor now and go back to bed.... -Escher ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Feb 1998 01:29:17 -0800 From: "Robert Trousdale" Subject: It looks official... I know a certain person who is currently flogging copies of Numans My = dying Machine Italian remix on CD single for =A38.00 a shot.God knows = how he's done it but it sounds first class. He did this originally for = his own benefit and there are about 10 copies floating around. You have = to admire his front if nothing else. They've even got the original cover. Does anyone have a copy of the Paper Toys single "when there's two" I would dearly love to hear it again at any cost. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 08 Feb 1998 03:02:04 -0400 From: Stevorama Subject: numan webwatch continues..;) To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hi folks- Just thought I'd mention a few Gary Web sightings. STREAMLAND, the new site which has full-length streaming videos, has "Cars" on its roster, and a place for requests as well. It's at http://www.streamland.com Also, the daily "Music News of the World section of Addicted to Noise (http://www.addict.com) had a blurb about the U.S. release of _Exile_, but frustratingly noted that it was his first recording in 10 years. And they call themselves music buffs??? Also, I was wondering if it is still possible to get _The Fury_ on CD thru the Numan website, or if I have to wait for Eagle to reissue it now. And FINALLY.........If Gary releases the "Dominion Day" video in the US, he needs to inquire about MTV's new station M2, which is like MTV used to be- all music videos, no game shows and filler. As such, their playlist is MUCH wider than MTV's and I can imagine them giving it a home, as well as Canada's MUCHMUSIC probably would. To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hello At NuWorld in the news it states that Exile is out now but it says that some expanded edition will be availble later (forgot the date) I really don't feel like buying two of the same cd so is there anyone that knows what is on the expanded one? Also I live in the States and does anyone think the box set planned will be picked up by Cleopatia? I hope so. Sincerely, WAR4PREZ@aol.com Matthew Dovell BTW A few years ago on a Beavis and Butthead Christmas episode they were watching the Cars video. Butthead basically said "Is this like David Bowie?" And had an odd look to his face. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Feb 1998 03:22:45 -0800 From: Kerry Ward Subject: Wow, two songs in two nights To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Yesterday I heard a cut off of Exile on KCRW, the largest public radio station in the US with some 400,000 listeners.
