But I realised a few years later he'd just been flirting with the images, and had actually been portraying quite negative queer images in his early songs. It was given to me as a Christmas present from a Nubie from Canada. It was given to me since I stated on my website that I wouldn't buy it because I'm opposed to the lyrics on "Exile". I listened to it a couple of times. It sounds good and I'm sure someone would appreciate it. But I personally cannot accept the direction Gary Webb has taken his music on this release. So since I received "Exile" free, I'm offering it in a contest to someone living in the United States. If you are from the USA and can't find "Exile" anywhere and really want it, then send me a message at: "numan@kf9ug.centralnet.net" and tell me why you want it. The best answer will receive it free of charge, I'll even pay the postage. The winner will be announced on April 1, 1998. The winner will be contacted via email and their response will be posted on "Remind Me To Smile". Hint: I'm looking for an request from someone that really can't get it anywhere else and/or someone that is a Christian. -------------------------------------------------- >From a proud supporter of Jesus Christ + | -------------------------------------------------- Good luck! Billy Currie's another possibility. Then there's Rrussell Bell, but he's more like a Sebastian Cabot to Brian Keith or Chewbacca to Han Solo. Another interesting thing I just noticed was the Beach Boys', or perhaps more specifically, Brian Wilson's influence on Numan. More on this in the future, but to begin I'd like to note the similarity between the drumbeat/sound on the Boys' "Do It Again" off the 20/20 album, and Numan's "Metal". Later on the same 20/20 album, the rhythm track on the song "Go To Sleep" has many similarities to Numan's on "Cry, The Clock Said." christophe silvey ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 07 Mar 1998 07:39:49 -0800 From: Lance Waligroski <"lanceufo@bellsouth.net"@bellsouth.net> Subject: Gary Numan Digest V1 #413 To: Gary Numan Whoa! To: "Gary Numan" STOP PRESS!!! NUMAN WREAKS HAVOC IN VENEZUELA! Reports have just come in that Gary Numan's music was apparently responsible for recent chaos at a holiday resort on Margarita Island, Venezuela. A shaken eyewitness, Peter Enright, self-proclaimed professional eclipsomaniac and Numanoid, who had travelled from Moscow to view his 8th. total solar eclipse here on the 26th Feb, had to be sedated by paramedics before he could answer important questions on the exact circumstances leading up to the events in question: "I should've known there was gonna be trouble the first time I played the Living Ornaments tape for the guests. During the intro to "Films", our loco Latino barman Jesus got so carried away boogying on down (Venezuelans will Lambada to anything with a rhythm) that he dropped a bottle of beer, smashing it all over the floor as several holidaymakers were dancing barefoot. Then the next night things got way out of hand. It was one of the French Canadian girls' birthday so we all had a little party. Everyone was dancing and having a good time so I put the LO tape on again officer. I turned up the volume, and the celebration quickly degenerated into an ugly drunken orgy where everybody ended butt-naked up in the swimming pool. Things got a bit hazy then, but as far as I can recall, after playing one side, I turned the tape over and somewhere during "I'm An Agent" the amp suffered massive terminal meltdown and the speakers blew. I blacked out after two of the girls grabbed me in a rabid frenzy officer. That's all I remember. The tape deck had to be sent away for extensive repairs. It wasn't my fault, honest." At this point in his testimony, Mr. Enright broke down and had to be tranquilised with a more potent sedative. He is at present recovering in a Moscow clinic. Russian medical specialists have reportedly never seen anything like this condition before. "It appears to be an unfortunate mix of jet-lag and serious alcohol abuse coupled with the lethal mix of a total solar eclipse plus this Numan person's music. It went straight for the central cortex of his ravaged brain. He may never fully recover from this truly traumatic experience." one of the attending physicians was quoted as saying off the record in a nearby bar. He seemed fairly shook up. "We've never seen anything like it since the disco fever of the 70's." lamented one government spokesman. Unsubstantiated rumours of officially banning Numan's music in Venezuela are spreading like wildfire. Although no fatalities were reported, local authorities are still looking into the matter.
