I do, IT WAS MEEEEEEE !!!!!!!! Sorry guys, I understand I incurred the wrath of some of you as you sat and watched your modems flashing away for 40 minutes downloading the Digest. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, April 1 at noon. The Anglo android behind the chilled synth lines of "Are Friends Electric," "Down In The Park" and "Cars" returns. Inspired by Kraftwerk, Ultravox, and David Bowie, Gary Numan's early work reacted against punk and anticipated the early '80s sythpop craze. Since retiring in '82, Numan's legacy has been in dispute--futurist dance beat innovator or kitsch pop purveyor with a robot fetish? --Kerry Burke" I guess Gary is just one of those "if you love him you adore him, if you hate him you fucking despise him" kind of personalities. and judging by the bad reviews in the recent digest I guess the concept of "if can't say anything good blah blah" goes right out the window when it comes to gary. of course picasso had the same problem. I guess i'm no better, I fucking DESPISE the grateful dead, and they're suppose to be so damn hip too... P.S. To anyone familiar with the area around the Irving Plaza in Manhattan, I am looking for a cool hotel, price is not a big problem it just needs to be close and funky (good funky) also, anyone ever been to Hotel 31 on 48th st.? Now I thought this would be an isolated case of HMV F**King up, but no. Reading the list, I see it's happened all over the UK. It seems Eagle are no better than Beggars, IRS, Pinnacle and all the rest who appear to be lax when it comes availability of Numan releases. Gary needs to be made aware of this distribution problem and I'm sure this was the main contributory factor in D-Day not making the UK Top 40 and receiving the continued free promotion it deserved. So much for a bigger label doing a better job than Numa - even Absolution, clearly not a fave with many Brits got to No. 43 (I think). Added to info posted to the last Digest that many stores over there are not stocking it, only tlking orders, this does not bode well for the success of DD, or the Extended Exile (is is out yet?), Gary's return to success, and his and Eagle's longterm prospects. How can Eagle with ties to BMG be doing such a poor job of publicising and getting Gary's music into stores? Better snap up these Eagle releases quickly - goodness knows how long they may be around. No adverts, no airplay, piss-poor distribution & a disasterous chart position - 89. After all the good press Gary's had in the last couple of years, not to mention TV appearances etc the time was ripe for a return to the Top 40. But Eagle's half-arsed efforts at promotion scuppered any chance of that, & Gary's once more failed to chart. It seems like Eagle are more interested in Gary's lucrative back-catalogue than his contemporary work. Hasn't Gary signed over the rights to all his Numa stuff to Eagle? To: "Numan Digest" hi folks, a few points really, just to get of my chest. 1. does anybody know how dominion day got on in its first week of release?did it make the top 75 or anything, because as we know the first week was when all us numanoids bought DD so it will chart and then rely on airplay to get joe public involved, thus if our efforts wasnt enough then its safe to say that this single has come and gone in 1 week, and im pretty sure there will not be another single release from exile, thus another year wasted. 2. i agree with people who say eagle are crap. No promotion at all. i have not heard it once on any uk station or even mentioned by DJ's and of course there is that problem with Radio F....kin One. yes i also agree that Eagle are only interested in gary's back catalogue as these and any future mix's, hits etc are little money spinners. I think Gary deserves a lot more respect than he is receiving from eagle, and thus should leave them now. 3. If any Numan fan is under the illusion that gary is going to become a major force again in the pop world then they might as well check in to the secure hospital now. Numan has kept his style of music unique and dark, just how we like it, but its not what the young people of today want, they want dance, techno, rap, crap etc. its the teenage to early twenty yr olds who are the target market for record sales, and with gary's fans mainly in their late 20's to 40's then its never going to happen for him. Thus we should accept that and be grateful he has not changed and sold out to the masses, but still going to keep his cult following happy. i am. 4. sorry if i sound pesimistic, but im beiing realistic. i hope gary goes on for another 10 yrs but he will Never have another top 10 hit. i think its a good time for gary to pursue his other sideline and expand into acting as he has had some offers already, and this may prove to be a lot more successful at this stage in gary's career. i would love to see him on the big screen, and also still doing soundtracks for horror movies of course. Thus a change in direction is required for gary, forget trying to recapture those early years, and start anew, but continue to make new albums and tours........bit selfish arnt I? thats it. I agree that the price was maybe a little steep but here is a liitle thought for you all , the total running time of the 2 singles is just over 40 mins for that you paid £8 , Exile was about the same length but for that you paid £15 , I know there were repeats and I know we had another "cars" but I am not that upset by the price. It was good to get some Euro press, albeit negative. I love stuff like this! Even though it pissed me off to read them, I had to laugh at the reviews. It was a strange yawn-laugh-yawn-laugh experience reading those reviews. First off, I think it's fair to state that it IS a bit tired to do those really old hits. That's just me personally. I don't care about the hits. I'd love to hear an entire show of just post 1994 Numan music, with maybe one hit like "We Are Glass." Basically, those reviews were very bitter and hipper-than-thou late 1990's, pat, dog feces-inspired writs but they were kind of FUNNY. They did make me laugh, I have to admit. The "Gary Numan is the Roy Orbison of the electronics" was a great line. The problem with that is that Roy Orbison was a GENIUS. So that kind of defeats the purpose of a line like that. I do know what he means, though. Referring to Beck, Smashing Pumpkins and especially Foo Fighters as "actual artists" is lame beyond belief. The Fighters really make me physically ill. A milktoasty, updated David Byrne-style smartass like Beck is not to be compared with The Fabulous Gnu. That's my opinion, folks. Smashing Pumpkins?! Come ON. Even NIN is pretty flimsy comicbook porn when you compare his self-indulgent noise to something like "Deadliner." It's also funny to read that "physically in perfect condition" line. Rock on, Europe. I actually laughed out loud a couple of times when I read these. I ignored them before. Very witty, dopey, misguided journalistic masterbation from uninformed hacks who take seriously their respective Top 40s. They should write for Rolling Stone. Dominion Day has presented new problems to me.I can't get hold of the = bloody thing.Even finding somebody who knows of the single is abit of = Triumph in it's self. I think there must be many other collectors out there having the same = problems,so I propose to complain to Eagle records directly to find out = what their game is.I would suggest that anyone else who is disatisfied = with situation also e-mails or faxes Eagle whos numbers can be found on = Gary's official website. It's ironic that you can find some of the old = IRS/Sharpe & Numan and Numa releases on cd,but not the latest singles.I = hope to embarass Eagle into giving a viable explanation for their lack = of distribution for DD and if feel they should rectify their teething = problems in time for the next release.
