Im trying to build up a "service" for us Numanoids to collect Cover-Versions of Numan Songs. Therefore I ask you, to storm your archives and mail me, if possible, all the Covers you know. Please include: Artist, the covered Song, the disc it appears on, the format (single, Album, ...), the catalogue number, and (if you like) any comments on it. Also it would be useful to know about live performances of songs or "remixes" (i think a remix is not really a cover version). Together we can do it. I didnt find any site like this, so i decided to start it. (and of course i already know all "randoms", techo armys, the mixes,...) Packed stadium surprisingly, DM have quite a large hardcore fan base here, even though most of the fans don't understand English. The show was quite good, but not as energetic and dramatic as Numan's of course. (There that's my token reference.) Two encores but they didn't perform "Master And Servant" or "Everything Counts" ... ? And their light show and sound mix really sucked. But we sat back in our balcony seats at the Olympiski Sports Complex and clapped our hands and generally enjoyed ourselves. Can't help thinking that a full Monty Gaz gig would really blow their minds ... No beer for sale anywhere at the stadium - damn! Lots of security and militia men in their black leather jackets - some were even grooving along by the end of the gig. I heard from the guy sitting next to me that Boris has stationed extra soldiers near Moscow in case things get out of hand. But that's normal here during any political crisis, I don't think for a minute that things will get ugly. People may take to the streets if prices continue to skyrocket, but I don't think that anarchy will rule. However, I have been horribly wrong before ... I suspect that we have to consider not just the "state of the art" at that time, but also the size of the arena. Light travels faster than sound, plus the fact that the sound is pumped down wires and through loudspeakers. If you ever watch video of any large event, the audience reaction to a remark from the performer starts off at the front, and gradually works through to the back. I think you have to make allowances for this phenomenon, and puzzle it out next time you watch the video. Incidentally, Micromusic moves me every time I watch it. I WAS NOT THERE! I don't remember >the question, but one of Gary's answers was "are you taking the piss?" >(or some such language), a very mature response! probably a load of rubbish like your email you sent how can you say Gary doesn't care what us fans think of his music, he is very much appreciative of his fans and that they are still around. I think you have this fan thing all wrong. We are fans because we enjoy his music then and now, >GN is now stagnant - has a very limited musical pallette and refuses to >write with other musicians (the reason for his lack of tonal and >compositional width IMO), and this I believe is his failing. He tried writing with other people look where it got him (machine and soul), back on his own in 1993 and he writes argubly the best Lp, Sacrifice, since Replicas. Numan has already stated for his next LP that he wants to get back to more guitar and real drums, the voila is out because Numan style has come along way since since then, if you want voila listen to Celine Dion. He may not take critisism well because he is probably fed up with people slagging him off about what he should or should not be doing in the music business, give the guy a break he has bills to pay like the rest of us, and to meet those he doind what he knows best being Numan and writing songs are you in or out ! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Sep 1998 12:16:54 +0000 From: Stephen Beer Subject: Roxy (music) To: Hi I've been reading the Digest lately and I'm happy to see the subjects getting back on beam. The irrelevant "Homo-erotic" debate kinda got me = down. If you want to read something more into Numan Lyrics which he has already = admitted to as his writing style at the time, then fine. I don't really see what= point was trying to be made though, except for "Is He Gay ?", which he isn't.= The real reason I write is to thank BB for the Tubeway Army re-issue with the Roxy gig on it. I've had a bootleg copy for years but didn't p= lay it much because of the quality and the fact that it was on cassette. Howev= er, now it's on CD, I have to say it's a pleasure to listen to since the irrita= ting Cymbal noise has been clipped. These are great songs which deserved a = decent studio recording, especially Me & My Head and Kill St. Joy. I wonder if= it's possible to get a copy of the lyrics anywhere, (Steve Webbon, can you h= elp?). I'd like to hear the Numan tribute band having a crack at them......hin= t hint. Anyway, see you all at London.
