Of course the only thing sillier perhaps is the assertion.. (emphasis on the "ass" part) that "people who hate Windows play loose with facts". While in "FACT" even pretending that "Windoze" is anything more than a poor man's Macintosh is the "joke" after all. Hope I don't open up an wonderful "Microsux vs Apple" flame tossing to fill in the void left by the homoerotic/religion debate with that one. On second thought however... given Cleopatra's all too embarrassing job of getting the track lists correct on there CD's... guess the "Sleep by Windows 98" is fairly "accurate" after all. KING RICHARD HERE... ok, for those of you that dont know, I work in a music store (cd's, video, etc.) and we got in the new M. MANSON cd when it was released.. Once again, I am not nor have I ever been a fan, dont plan to be. No, its not because he dresses in drag, BOY GEORGE did it in the 80's and had alot more talent ! (I think BENJAMIN I. O's wife will agree with me on that statement... hi benjamin..) So it is just his total lack of talent that keeps me from being a fan. We have MANSON'S cd behind the counter , because MANSON fans dont try to steal the cd by puting it in their pocket or peeling the magnetic gizmo off, they put it in their left hand and make a running go for the door.. Anyway, a girl, wearing make-up that looked like it belonged on MANSON came up to the counter and asked for MANSONS new offering. I turn around to get it, as I am singing to PRAYING TO THE ALIENS (I decided to put in REPLICAS that night over the speakers. As I am taking her money, the song changes to DOWN IN THE PARK, she perks up, gives the first lines a listen, shakes her head sadly and says " HHMMPPHH, didnt take long for someone to copy MANSON, I swear, get popular, and everyone does your songs." I looked at her, smiling, and told her that this is GARY NUMAN that she is listening to, not a MANSON copy. "THIS IS A MANSON SONG !!!!!!!!" I put the NUMAN cd up on the counter, pointing out that it was from 1979 and that MANSON had made a cover of the song, It was a NUMAN song... Here is what I copied from the news story. The cable channel "Access Entertainment Network was created earlier this year as an outlet for musicians who couldn't get their videos played on MTV or VH1" Maybe Eagle/Cleopatra could try to get Numan played on their channel, says they are reaching 6 million homes at this point. They were making fun of the truck driver "Trash Can" though... For those unfamiliar with this show, two guys dress up like cops and drive around in a squad car. They stop people while driving down the road and search their music. They also go to celebrities houses and raid their collection. Sometimes they even do a "search" for a missing star from the past (it was Tony Basil - she's choreographing (GAP) commercials and such these days). But I think three ballads is too much (absolution, the seed of a lie ' !!!!superb!!!! ', exile) Meeting Mr Numan and the band afterwards is always a great moment. Richard Beasley and Steve Harris told me they will certainly be playing on the next album (it has always been a rumour but now it's confirmed!). Numan told me: ' The reason why I'm late with the new album is: because we are to late with moving the new studio. A new European tour is very likely in May or maybe September.' Then I met Steve Webbon, only 47 (I think) but still looking 20. A very kind man, who was so kind to answer a few questions I asked. All tapes from 1978 till 1981 are at Beggar's Banquet. The rest (from 1981 till 1983) are at Gary's. There is probably still some stuff not published. It's very likely Numan still has recordings at home he doesn't know of(demos, ....). Maybe we can expect bonus tracks on the next 4 'remastered' albums. I asked Steve if the recorded Warriors tour (BBC) will ever be released. He replied that the BBC have copied all original recordings on DAT, so the original tapes are gone. No 'Old grey Wistle test', 'Warriors' and other recordings, damn, BBC. Thanks Steve for the chat, it great to see the man who was there from the beginning.... p.s. Sorry for not updating 'Pophecy',it has been a hell of a month at work. p.s. At 'Sister Ray' Soho, London, Berwick Street, the remastered albums were priced at 7.50(english pounds) much cheaper as at Virgin's, Tower Records and HMV (priced at around 12 English pounds I think) Joeri Peeters Belgium http://home.planetinternet.be/~joeri/prophecy.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Sep 1998 22:24:15 -0400 From: "b. koski" Subject: Marilyn Manson Revisited To: numan@cs.uwp.edu > From: Scott Gibbons > I notice "Marilyn" doesn't fit into your list of "artists who Marilyn > sounds like." (clap, clap, clap) I can't totally agree with you more... I mean, I don't hate Manson or anything; I'm actually rather curious to hear "Mechanical Animals" for myself. One of my friends is still a huge Manson fan and purchased the cd on the day it came out and has told me that I'll be the first person (after her boyfriend, of course) to borrow it. But still, I've noticed the above for quite a long time -- Mr. Manson and his band seem to sound very similar to all of their influences. From Gary to Bowie to possibly even Nine Inch Nails, a lot of the stuff sounds like carbon copies of the originals with 'sinister' lyrics added. But anyways, my main point of this huge spiel was to point out one thing -- according to the friend who's already heard it already, Manson 'rips himself off' on this cd. I guess he uses a drum beat on one of the songs that's more or less the exact same thing as one on "AntiChrist Superstar". So, technically, Marilyn --DOES-- sound like Marilyn. =) (now going back into hibernation) --- 'crazy people are right on; crazy people are right.' -- 's. soup', sebadoh. go here now: http://www.portup.com/~koskib ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Sep 1998 22:19:22 -0700 From: David Paul Banks Subject: New Thing From London Town To: numan@cs.uwp.edu G'day All, Does anyone out there have the lyrics for the Numan/Sharpe version of NTFLT or know where to get it? First off, I think everyone knows the track difference between the UK and US vinyl versions of Telekon. Where the UK copy has "Sleep By Windows" at the end of side one, the US copy has "I Die: You Die" instead. I understand the cassette tape version of Telekon is a bit different from both of these vinyl pressings. Secondly, the only issues of Telekon on coloured vinyl are Dutch pressings. The Dutch pressings were made in red, green, and yellow vinyl are ALL considered rare. I've presonally not seen any coloured vinyl of Telekon, but I know they exist. No information I have shows Beggars Banquet or Atco (the US label who picked up Telekon for its release in 1980) ever making Telekon on coloured vinyl. All US and UK pressings are on plain old black vinyl. I'd love to know the name of the Dutch label which pressed Telekon in coloured vinyl. Anyone know? As a reminder, I still have my extra copy of the Telekon LP (UK version) and the free 7" single that came with it ["Remember I Was Vapour (live)" b/w "On Broadway (live)"] for sale or trade. Another example - does anyone really think that Roland D-50 preset that was used by nearly everybody in the mid to late 80s (including Gary on the Metal Rhythm album) is a classic? Or a commonly available preset that sounds good, so "let's use that instead of using our imagination and trying to come up with something that hasn't been heard before". Not having a go here (really!) but "preset-laziness" (whether its synth sounds or samples really hacks me off. And yes, I know Gary puts a bit of work into his drum loops these days. Maybe because Cleopatra want to try and sell the album to as wide an audience as possible, not just Numan fans. Having seen Rod's previous efforts on the design of The Mix, I have little doubt that the design of Re-modulate's cover alone may well attract any casual buyers who had their interest raised by Gary's tour in "the land of the free" earlier in the year.
