I regularly check the "N" section looking for Numan C.D.'s. It's just a little way I punish myself because they never, ever, have any. Imagine my stunned surprise to see an entire wedge of Gary Numan c.d's!!! The only explanation, I feel, is some type of rare planetary alignment. You'd have to understand the obscurity that is Gary Numan in downstate Illinois. I've looked and looked, everywhere for c.d's forever ("it must have been years"). Needless to say, in case it doesn't last, I whipped out the Visa, made short work of the wedge, and left, insufferably pleased with myself. I just wanted to share this little triumph with people who could possibly relate to it. Now, I'm new to the digest, and this has probably already been covered, but can anyone tell me how to obtain a copy of his autobiography? I've checked regularly with book stores and they claim they can't even order it. And one other thing; the only video I have ever seen is "Cars". Through this digest, I gather he has made several others. Can anyone tell me if these are available as a collection on tape, or how else I could view them? Nice one Tom, especially with Firework Night coming up. I'd lov= e to see Gary's face if he read this. BTW, did I say Heart of Glass didn't have the same intro as Remind Me To Smile? Doh! I just played the 1981 remix, and the intro IS the identical percussion pattern. It also appears on "Same Old Scene", a Roxy Music tra= ck from 1980. Despite the above references, I'd like to point out that I do not live in= the 1980's and my favourite groups are NOT Flock Of Seagulls, China Crisi= s and Howard Jones. I used to have a good record-buyer contact here in Houston, Tx. that picked it up for me about 6 yrs. ago. It is a test pressing of the single version of 'Radio Heart' from Specialty Records Corporation in Olyphant. PA. USA. The label is basic black on white photocopy with the info. being handwritten and Gary's name being spelled 'Gary Newman'. It also contains an mtx #(?) stcr51792-1 and a rec. # 7-99454. I've never heard of this company before and neither has anybody I've asked about them. If anybody has any idea how many of these exist(# of copies) I would be thrilled to hear from you. The Plan-Don't really have one as I hardly ever listen to it, I just don't like that type of music Tubeway Army-"My Shadow In Vain"-short, frantic, Gary sings like his pants are on fire. A live favourite. Replicas-"Me! I Disconnect From You"- That intro is amazing, whole song sounds so fresh despite its age. All time fave live track (Ghost version is best) The Pleasure Principle-"Metal"-I was tempted to put Cars, but Metal does it for me because of that addictive synth riff. The number of people I've annoyed humming it :-) Telekon- "I Die:You Die" is best- Gary deserves a criminal punishment for leaving this off the album. Has everything I like about it, I just wish it was longer. Dance-"Crash"- not really representative of the rest of the album, but it bears some resemblance to ID:YD I Assassin-"We Take Mystery To Bed"-the al time Numan dance song, I'd love to see this played live again. Warriors-"Warriors"-That bass, plus Gary's emotional singing make this a winner on one of my otherwise least favourite albums Berserker-"Cold Warning"- I love most off this album, but this song is catchiest, along with that violin and great foot-tapping rhythm The Fury-"Tricks"-don't know what it is about this one, but there are times where I just can't stop singing "we all fall down" and piss people off in the process. Strange Charm-"Strange Charm" -I just like faster songs, like this frantic action packed thing with another very catchy rhythm. Metal Rhythm-"Hunger" This gets the choice because it's so catchy (again) and uses the most synth on a more guitar based album. Outland-"Heart" I suppose if you're not so keen on the over produced, dancey, IRS ruined stuff, then you're left with 3 good tracks. This one has the easiest lyrics to relate to. Machine+Soul-"Wonder Eye"-Another great ballad, but didn't need Kipper's treatment. Lyrics easy to relate to, but should have been on the album in this form. Sacrifice-"Love and Napalm"-back to the fast catchy, frantic music. I loved this on first listen Exile-"Dead Heaven"- This stood out immediately and should have been the single instead of Dominion Day. Love the lyrics! Other polls that can be done after the current one: Ranking live albums (would include "Live at the Roxy") Favourite version of "Cars" !!!! Ranking songs on each album (although doing one each month would be no good for me as I could be offline for a long time after June 1999) Favourite other artists apart from Numan Who thinks what is best? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Oct 1998 10:52:59 -0500 From: Room 237 <room237@overlook.hotel.com> Subject: Remind Me...
