The Fury (Eagle) UK TV star in I Can't Stop video ??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Thu, 04 Mar 1999 18:51:29 PST From: "jeffrey sopko" Subject: To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Well, being a lurker I was waiting for takers on Craig MacNeil's inquiry about The Plan, hoping that the crowd would be whipped into a fevered pitch prior to making any comments. However, the total lack of response has compelled me to write. Given the fact that The Plan is nearly always at the bottom of every Numanoid's list, I feel compelled to to ask the question: Is it really that bad? (That's a rhetorical question by the way). Now, I'm sensible enough to admit that the album is clearly the quintessential definition of lo-fi, but come on, you know those choppy, throw-away, rehashed punk ditties make your feet tap...don't they? For me, I love The Plan and, of course, it has, arguably, the best recorded version of "Bombers" ever recorded(sans the cheesy production). Now let's not be ashamed, everyone has to start somewhere. And even "Basic J" is better than...oh forget it, let's call out the dogs and party like it's 1999. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 04 Mar 1999 06:50:45 -0500 From: Cary Wiltz Subject: Chatting programs To: numan@cs.uwp.edu This message is in regards to the last couple of digests where craig had suggested AOL INSTANT MESSENGER and James said that he would give it a whirl, respectively: ICQ(meaning "I seek you") is incontrovertibly better and more efficcient than AOL INSTANT MESSENGER. Why, you can chat with some one in "real time" where you have the capacity to watch them as they are typing. Also, you can send messages to people and they do not have to be online(it'll be waiting for them the next time they log on. Many other features...check it out. You won't be disappointed. I would also like to ask, once again, what thoughts any of you out there might have with regards to your "portending powers" on what Gary might be doing 10 to 20 years fron now. I had said before that I think he will be cutting music but not as frequently. I see him doing more instrumental tracks and producing other artists. Any input could be fun! I work for a video production and duplication company. We have started receiving several Cleopatra compilation videos for duplication work. Everything so far seems to be along the Goth lines. No Numan work yet has come my way. The closest I have seen was Switchblade Symphony starting out one of the compilations. Everything seems to be from around 1996 so far. If anything Numan should turn up on my monitors, I'll pass it along. Andy (one of several on this list...) If it works with New Kids on the Block certianly it would work for Numans Dominion Day video. Everyone that has cable vote on the 10th on MTV's TRL for New Kids on the Blocks "hangin' tough" (snip) Hello all. This is a chain letter that I am starting (hear me out). There is nothing I loathe more than chain letters. Well, except for the teenage obsession and recent success of such male quintuplet vocal acts as: The Backstreet Boys, N Sync, and 98 Degrees, and Five. I am not the boy with cancer. I am not Bill Gates with the enticing offer of an all-expense paid trip to Disneyland. I am not the naive college freshman whose kidneys are no doubt being sold for thousands of dollars on the black market. Now, to expose the plot, a nefarious scheme I've contrived to pay them all back. The idea struck while I was watching TRL yesterday like a truck running into a flightless bird, who had inadvertantly chosen to cross the road. TRL, for those of you who don't know, is the abbreviation for the showcase of Carson Daly witticisms that is Total Request Live on MTV (MTV itself being an abbreviation for music television). Here is what we must all pull together and do: send this email to as many people as possible. The message is simple. On March 10, 1999,everyone who has received this email will get on-line and, before the airing of Total Request Live, cast their vote for the New Kids on the Block's epic music video-"Hanging Tough." It is the ultimate insult to popular culture. And here is the compelling, dramatic, conclusion: I don't know if this is original. I don't know if anyone has ever had this thought before. You won't be cursed with bad luck and misfortune if you choose not to pass this on. You, in turn, will not reap lifelong rewards and benefits if you do. But you will laugh your ass off if it works. And in that hysterical fit of laughter you will live the long fruitful life and die the ill-fated tragic death all at the same time. We can make this happen. Now the author would like to apologize for any misspellings, offensive or politically incorrect ethnic slurs, verbosity, inapropriate word use, and failure to convey a lucid, well-organized thought. Sincerely, James Vaughan P.S. Be sure to include ridiculous things in your request, such as: "Please Carson, will you play "Hangin' Tough" by the New Kids on the Block. Danny is such a clean-cut boy, and he'll never be in trouble with the law. Also, I think that these guys have the Right Stuff, and they're going to be around for a long time." I know bootlegs are generally taboo newsgroup discussion stuff, but has anyone heard of a Numan boot called "New Kingdom"....apparently it's a CD of the Chicago show in the US.... That's probably because he was 30. The photo is from the Metal Rhythm sessions. The sound quality of the new releases? Don't ask me. As far as I'm concerned, all CD's sound the same. I bought The Fury re-mastered etc re-release on day of issue because it's one of my favourite albums as I also have it on vinyl and cassette. Anyway, it features 5 extra tracks only two of which I like; Puppets(?) and I can't remember the name of the other at the moment to be totally honest...:-) Like the new artwork , extensive sleeve notes etc which is the norm for these re-releases, but was surprised that they've cut the lyrics to fit into one page of the CD booklet. They also put Gary's face on the background of each page, where they could've surely have used a different picture each time!!! But more surprising when I played it for the first time was that it is the extended version of Call Out The Dogs that is featured since I never had it before. It occurred to me that a star of ITV's Heartbeat 1960's TV drama about a rural Yorkshire community appeared in Gary's I Can't Stop video from 1986. Kazia Pelka, District Nurse Maggie Bolton of aforementioned Tv series ,and previously of Channel 4's soap Brookside as the Farnham's nanny, later turned prostitute because of money problem's is the first dancer that appears after Rrussell Bell's great guitar break in I Can't Stop. So get out your Shadow Man videos, and watch Heartbeat and see if I'm right. I think I am... She's 36 just now. Would've been 23 at time of I Can't Stop video. Colin P.S. Isn't Warriors video v.embarassing especially since Gary directed it. Your Fascination looks highly enjoyable though...
