To: Numan News Digest Ya know...neither the Happy99 worm nor the Melissa virus bothered moi. I guess that's just one more reason to own a Mac! Hahaha Sorry if anyone else got zapped. Pesky little buggers those cyberinfections. And now back to regular programming... I've only had the chance to procure a couple of the BB re-issues. PP and Replicas. Replicas really rocks...I love having the b-sides on the same disc. Back in High School, I wore out a tape that I had made of the LP with the b-sides attached. I can't wait for the re-issues of Dance and I, Assassin. Newly discovered tidbits from the vaults of BB. Thanks for the info Steve! And I must say I'm extremely jealous of all you who are going to see the April and June shows in the UK. James ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Apr 1999 20:20:00 +0100 From: "Antonio" Subject: Fear Factory To: "Gary Numan" I got the Fear Factory Digi-pack album with Cars and Obsolete on - I quite like it. It's very heavy metal, but I think it's kind of fun. Can the singer keep that growl up for a whole gig, I'm wondering? It's like a sort of better produced Napalm Death, with sci-fi lyrics. The song Obsolete, where Gary speaks the intro, I like the best. It's not an album I think I could listen to all the way through, but I think people who are into growly death metal will really like the album (it's had great reviews in the Metal press), and if it introduces more people to Numan, then that's a good thing. I am sorry, but I disagree with you, since I think things are going very well on this list. And I do also not agree with your desire for more 'moderation', since I think that the amount of influence Derek takes on the Digest is more than appropriate. Things like Happy99.exe happen, just like s*** does ... I think there's no problem with people who accidentally include the last digest, when they reply. They do even apologize in most cases after realizing their little slip. Nobody is free from making mistakes. Neither are YOU. And if you take a look at your "contribution" to the last digest, you'll realize that the setting "Send Email as plain text only" in your email program's "Send" Preferences is not at all useless :-). Having to read messages with that absolutely needless (but probably fashionable?) HTML Coding is more annoying to me, than searching for the Phrase "End Of Gary Numan Digest". Let me just add one (maybe silly?) statement: if I were you and dissatisfied with the Digest, I would unsubscribe and start my own (just to prove, that I could do a better job - although I doubt it possible! - ) - wouldn't that be an idea ;-)? People in glasshouses should not start throwing stones. Anyway to all of you fellow Numanoids out there: Take care and watch out for the pitfalls of life. Happy99, yippiee! I first heard Gary Numan's music in 1995, when I found `The Pleasure Principle' among my Uncle's LP's. The cover looked interesting, so I played it, and I couldn't stop playing it. Over the years (in the order I bought them) I got - Greatest Hits, Telekon, Warriors, Isolate: The Numa Years, Exile, Sacrifice, Exile Extended, and Dark Light. Some of them I'm sure I've played more times than the CD was ever designed to be played. So I've only been a fan for about 5 years, but its hard to imagine my life without Gary's music. Other artists I'm into include: David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Rammstein, Kraftwerk/Elektric Music, Front Line Assembly, Prodigy, Queen, Peter Gabriel/early Genesis, Jean-Michel Jarre, Jan Hammer, Ultravox, Adam Ant... the list goes on. My (current) Favourite Numan Songs: 1. The Seed Of A Lie 2. Noise Noise 3. Jo The Waiter 4. Prophecy 5. The Angel Wars 6. This Prison Moon 7. Call Out The Dogs 8. Tracks 9. This Is Love Me: I'm 19, a student writer/artist, born in Australia, living in Canada, and I'm into Sci-fi, cartoons, british comedy, midi, gardening, and I own (but am not good at playing) a keyboard and guitar. Found a little cd called The Other Side Of Gary Numan made in 1992 on RECIEVER RECORD'S. I've been a fan of his since the day Car's came out in 1979 and, this was the first time I heard the song Strange Charm. AND WHAT A CHARM!! I had The Fury album for a very long time. But never heard that other stuff. If any of you out there EVER see this CD, YOU MUST HAVE IT!!!!! That Empty Bed Empty Heart song sound's like it's from the Dance or Telekon session's. If it's new's to you, you gotta have it. LIQUID ENGINEER ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Apr 1999 20:18:38 +0100 From: "Antonio" Subject: Violence To: "Gary Numan" Just thought I'd share a few of my obsevations and opinions - starting off with the violence on British streets, having been the victim of this a few times, I have to say that there is no way some bunch of thugs are ever going to dictate to me the shade of eyeshadow I can wear. England has it's share of dickheads who like to beat people up, but I will not let that affect my freedom to wear whatever I like. It's easy to think you have been beaten up because you were wearing make-up, but the fact remains that if a gang of lads are out looking for trouble, they will find an excuse to start on you whatever you look like. 'Normal' looking people are beaten up, too. You have to be sensible, that's all, and take precautions, like not being alone at 3am in the City Center - this counts as much whether you have a dress on or a shirt and tie. I feel this, because my cousin, who is tall and muscular and not at all alternative looking, has been attacked more times that I have, and I'm small and wear make-up all the time. I get name-calling, yes, which I ignore, and I'm generally left alone. The times I've been beaten up were times when I was walking around quiet streets late at night alone - the same sort of situation that my trendy cousin was attacked - it's any excuse - with me it was, 'You puff', with Paul, it was, 'Give me your jacket' Having said all that, I don't think England is all that bad for street-violence, there are a few gangs of knobheads who wander around causing trouble, but so long as you know where to avoid, it's not a bad place.
